What do they play to do to end planned obsolescence? What about changing their business model to promote repairable devices designed to last? What about stopping the hype cycle to trick people into buying more of what they already have with the previous generation of devices? This is still just scratching the surface for true sustainability.

For most people, the global warming increase of 1.5C+ is nothing that raises concern. The difference between 25C or 26.5C on a summer day is barely noticeable and is sometimes even desirable. However, everybody understands how it is to have a fever. The difference between the average body temperature of +37C and 38.5C is huge, and if we hit +40C, that will practically kill the patient. That's why we must act now! Therefore our idea is that SPP could communicate the consequence of global warming raise of 1.5C as a fever. We need to stop the fever and SPP could do a lot by educating the 1.9 million savings customers in Norway and Sweden.

Capitalism thrives on inequality, but can this path become the end of capitalism? Solving global problems such as; food security, climate change, water scarcity, and biodiversity loss come at a cost. Not taking action will, however, be much worse. Rehabilitating the earth's degraded soil ecosystems has a CO2 uptake potential of 50 gigatons. Capturing, storing, and repairing the damages caused by 50 gigatons of CO2 could be as high as $ 8 trillion or even higher if we factor in the knock-on effects of damages. Who causes most of this damage, and who are the ones left with the bill? No country is immune to the climate crisis. But in all countries, it is the poorest and most vulnerable who are hardest hit, despite having done the least to cause the problem. The wealthiest 10% of the world's population is responsible for more than half of all CO2 emissions. The poorest 50% are responsible for less than 7% of emissions. The countries contributing the least to the climate crisis suffer most from floods, droughts, desertification, and rising temperatures. The annual CO2 emissions per capita in Norway is 9.4 metric tons; in the USA it is 16.5, and in the United Arab Emirates, a staggering 22.4 metric tons per capita. The wealthiest countries in the world also have the most innovative power to solve global problems. By comparison, the annual emissions per capita in Burkina Faso, Eritrea, and Ethiopia is 0.2 metric tons. Despite having done little to cause the damage, they are served the destruction bill without having either the financial or innovation power to fix the problems. As Covid-19 has shown us, no country is immune to pandemics. The situation on climate change, desertification, and decay of vital topsoil work in the same. Everyone who has the power to do something must join the movement to act before it is too late. The Climate Tracker recently reviewed the status of 36 countries committed to the Paris Agreement. Only two countries are taking enough action to restrain global warming to 1,5 degrees celsius, namely The Gambia and Morocco. Some countries are not far behind, like India and Kenya. Simultaneously, the countries with the most advanced economies and the most significant capacity to innovate and help others are shrinking their commitments. The US is even withdrawing from the Paris Agreement altogether. If the ones with the ability to step up and solve the problems wait until disaster knocks on the doors at home in their own countries, it will very likely be too late. The good news is that governments are taking action. The European Green Deal and others are accelerating impact-driven initiatives to lead the needed change. Investors and corporations should follow and even step up to take the lead. As Rebecca Henderson, Professor and Economist at Harvard, says; "Business is screwed if we don't fix climate change!"
•
185 w
Creating a truly sustainable world involves facing multiple interconnected challenges simultaneously. Luckily, we don't have to do everything by ourselves - we just have to do our part where we can make a difference. Just like you're doing to combat desertification - keep up the good work Ole! 🌍

Thank you for an interesting reading. I hope Covid-19 makes politicians rethink their standpoint on climate change and realise how fragile our community is.

My name is Olga Grönvall Lund and I am a visionary and a multi-entrepreneur. I know that it is possible to change the world through food and there are many more who agree with me. My idea is “Reformaten”, it is love and power to the people and it is a warning to our business leaders, politicians and media. Reformaten wants to reform the whole food system so it benefits human health and the planet. Reformaten is divided into four parts. The first part is a petition and awareness campaign - we want to show our leaders that we do not accept this unsustainable system anymore. The second part of Reformaten is a house-format that we want to start in Stockholm and later apply to other parts of the world to create small and positive ecosystems. Reformaten is also a conference series where we unite all the actors working in the field and lastly Reformaten is also an organization. Reformaten stands for being easy, fun, including, delicious, energetic, and in the strength of uniting people. This is possible and we have to do it now! Join us on the ride! The importance of good material quality and proper installations As you already may know from the previous post, it is that the material used on a roof is vital for the prosperity of the roof. The aim is to have a living roof that aids the storm water management and were insects and birds can thrive. So, is it just to buy any material from any supplier with the cheapest materials? Well it is not that easy. There are many different materials that are meant to be similar, but where the quality is compromised. The roofs may all be green and helpful for our world in the beginning, but the roofs are not meant to be nice for just a few months, but for many years. Therefore, it is important that when the roof is being installed, that it is done in the right way, with matching materials that gives the right function. Normally you build it according to specific instructions. If the construction is carelessly done, or the materials do not match with each other or the property of the roof, it may also be a reason for the sedum roof not to grow. What do we think is important when choosing a supplier and what does Urbangreen offer? - We have knowledge, and a long experience in the sedum business. - We choose good materials that we know works and are adapted to the roof angles. - We have a good reputation, good service and a close contact with our customers. - We offer advice, and guarantee. - We look at every individual roof to see what the best construction would be, since more or less all roofs are different. - We always look for solutions that are sustainable in the long run. Which can mean that we give alternatives to already given solutions. - We provide sedum mats that are cultivated in Sweden. At our production site we make sure that it the standard is high and even. But most important! WE WANT TO DO IT RIGHT FROM THE BEGGING!

Environmental groups have suggested that fuels should be energy-declared and origin-labeled, just like electronics (see picture). This is an excellent proposal, and there is nothing to stop OKQ8 and other petrol stations from introducing it on their own, hence this climate idea. Help me agree with this climate idea, and we will send it to all of Europe's petrol chains and see if any of them are ready to implement the idea. Walmart’s revenue is greater than Microsoft, Cosco, Home Depot, Best Buy and Target combined. Over the past 20 years Walmart has communicated a strong desire to achieve sustainability. Despite this, their emissions have continued to rise from 4.8 million tonnes in 2005 to 6.1 in 2018. An amazing YouTube channel called Our Changing Climate conducted a review into whether Walmart's promises match their reality. Unfortunately they found a lot of talk and very little action. I’d love for you all to watch the video and tell me what you think in the comments. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKzrvaqCIGU&feature=youtu.be How can we get Walmart to act responsibly?

Another big problem with all retail is the plastic over-packaging. If Walmart would do something with THAT others would have to follow because Walmart has so much volume. It would change the dynamic. Right now fossil companies are counting on uptick in plastics to help them as renewable electricity replaces fossils.
•
196 w
Good facts. Existence of business becoming so strong that they can influence the customers by offering cheap prices and lobby with the governments is one reason we are unable to curtail pollution. Primark is also one such brand that offers prices that are unbeatable (though the quality is cheap too) but unfortunately the people use the products like disposables (even the products that should not be disposable like clothes and shoes). Such organizations have shortened the life cycle of products and hence increasing waste to unimaginable levels. I believe auch Consumption/Production = Pollution The consumers and governments are failing the climate and sustainability everyday.
•
196 w
Agree, and shared. This is where consumers can make a difference by not shopping there. The increase in emissions is terrible, then factor in the systemic inequality. They pay slave wages, thus creating a market for their cheap and substandard products. It's a vicious cycle.

Day 383: July 27th, 2020. I don't know if you noticed, but there has been a large influx of companies pledging to be carbon neutral by 2030, 2050 or sometime in the near future. So hooray! Corporations are finally taking the big leaps we need to take to actively combat climate change! However, some companies you might've expected to release a carbon neutral plan the same time other big players did - have remained quiet. Like Microsoft, why are they not saying anything about going carbon neutral? It's because they already have been for almost a decade. . Microsoft started operating carbon neutral in 2012, but it's not stopping there when it comes to the company's sustainability goals. By 2030, Microsoft has pledged to go carbon negative, accounting for both the emissions from itself and its supply chains. They also pledged that by 2050 they will have removed as much carbon from the atmosphere as Microsoft and its supply chains have released since the founding of the company in 1975! Time will tell if Microsoft sticks to their plan, but if they can, they will be paving the way for other companies to follow suit. . . Read more about their carbon goals: https://blogs.microsoft.com/blog/2020/01/16/microsoft-will-be-carbon-negative-by-2030/ or read about Microsoft's other goals: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/corporate-responsibility/sustainability . . #sustainable #sustainablebusiness #sustainability #microsoft #carbonneutral #carbon #carbonfootprint #gogreen #pixelplanet #pixelart #pixelartist #pixeldailies #naturelovers #natureart #naturefacts #withoutatrace

•
197 w
Yeah I hope all of the tech companies that have outstanding contracts with fossil fuel companies will rethink them, because I don't think Microsoft's carbon negative plan includes companies that it holds contracts with. Progress is progress, but I agree, while it's hard to pass up on money-making opportunities like fossil fuel contracts, I think all tech companies should support initiatives that look toward the future.

Denmark just struck historic climate deal to slash emissions! A broad-based coalition representing 171 out of the 179 members of the Danish parliament concluded a landmark climate agreement. It will quadruple Denmark’s total offshore wind energy capacity by 2030 and could meet electricity demand of 7.7 million European households. Highlights from the agreement on the energy sector and industry; - Construction of 6 GW offshore wind energy (5 GW of those based on the Energy Islands), bringing Denmark’s total capacity to 7.7 GW by 2030. - Investing in the development of Power-to-X technology that can provide sustainable fuels to ships, planes and trucks. - Investing in the development of carbon capture technology. - Investing in the development of biogas. Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities, Mr. Dan Jørgensen said: “By creating the world’s first two energy islands and by investing in sustainable fuels, we are making a crucial contribution to the international fight against climate change. I hope that this agreement will show other nations that climate action and economic recovery goes hand-in-hand. I am thrilled that we have concluded this agreement and would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all the parties behind it.” Read more; https://en.kefm.dk/news/news-archive/2020/jun/denmark-ushers-in-new-era-in-renewable-energy-vowing-to-build-world-s-first-energy-islands/
