What is this LOSS AND DAMAGE concept? In 2015 at COP21 in Paris, loss and damage was included in the PARIS AGREEMENT and it's the third pillar of climate policy under UNFCCC alongside mitigation and adaptation. But then; What is the difference between mitigation , adaptation and addressing loss and damage? What actions has the international community taken taken to address loss and damage? Is loss and damage an issue of liability and compensation?

China is the world's too emitter ,producing more than a quarter of the world's annual greenhouse gas emissions, which contribute to climate change. It pledged to cut emissions under the Paris agreement ,reduce coal use and invest in renewable energy.Air pollution ,water scarcity and soil contamination remain threats to the health and livelihoods of China's people and the world at large, increasing dissatisfaction with the govt. Alibaba group has taken the lead among Chinese e-commerce platforms in combating climate change. The Hangzhou headquartered e-commerce platform pledged in December to reach carbon neutrality by 2030 and said it would slash carbon emissions by 1.5 gigatons across it's digital ecosystem by 2035. Alibaba is the only company that has set a date to achieve carbon neutrality for it's group wide operations. It has take the lead in proposing that it take a responsibility for the environmental damage caused by partners in it's ecosystem and to minimize that damage. Alibaba has made environmental, social and governance criteria a top priority and set up a sustainability committee at board level and responsible for ESG related strategic planning, goal setting and management. Transport is the primary pollutant at the e-commerce companies and only Alibaba has made a commitment to replace all of its operating vehicles with electric vehicles by 2030.

Rising sea levels The systematic warming of the planet is directly causing global mean sea level to rise in two primary ways. 1.Mountain glaciers and polar ice sheets are increasingly melting and adding water to the ocean 2.The warming of the water in the oceans leads to an expansion and thus increased volume Currently, the annual rise is approximately 3mm per year . Regional variations exist due due to natural variability in regional winds and ocean currents, which can occur over period of days to months or decades. But locally other factors can also play an important role such as uplift or subsidence of the ground, changes in water tables due to water extractions or other water management and even due to the effects from local erosions. Rising Sea levels can create not only stress on the physical coastline but also on coastal ecosystems. As global temperatures continue to warm, sea level will keep rising for a long time because there is a substantial lag yo reaching on equilibrium. The resulting loss in mangroves due to seal level can have drastic implications on the development of Kenya.Kenya's coastal fishing industry will be threatened.THe loss of mangrove will also mean that the coastal community can no longer benefit from the natural products of these swamps. The magnitude of rise will depend strongly on the role of future global warming, and the speed might increasingly depend on the rate of glacier and ice sheet melting.

Break free from plastics The plastic problem is one that should arouse concern in each and every one of us, plastic pollution goes beyond simply being an ocean problem, plastic problem is a health issue,a climate issue and a human rights issue. Most countries have made tremendous efforts in tackling plastic pollution such as the imposition of the ban on plastic bags and the ban f f single-use plastics in protected areas. However,we have a barely scratched the surface in dealing with the plastic problem, there still remains much more to be done in restoring the world's ecosystems and moving from a single use culture to a sustainable culture. We can no longer deny that plastics is a problem in all stages of its life cycle from it's production to it's eventual disposal.Almost every organism planet is affected by the production use ,or disposal of plastic, the toxic effect of which linger and accumulate endlessly in the air we breathe, and the soil under our feet. Every place of plastic begins as a fossil fuel.Fossil fuels form the basis for the production of plastics and are extracted through a process called fracking.Over 170 fracking chemicals that are used in the production of the plastic feedstock have brought human health impacts. Plastic bags and food containers often carry food particles and scents that appeal to animals ,attracting them to eat the plastic, which becomes permanently lodged in the animals digestive tracts, blocking the passage food and leading to death by starvation. In marine life, marine organisms ingest plastic debris ,these contaminants enter their digestive systems and overtime accumulate in the food web . In addition to the risks associated with plastics, women in particular bear the brunt of plastic -related toxicity risk due to higher aggregate exposure to plastics in the household and even in the feminine care products. Difference in regulating plastic use and health standards place women at high risks of miscarriages and cancer, which further exacerbate existing gender related disparities. It is important to understand that plastic free is more likely to be plastic reduced. It also means there will be obstacles along the way as you try to implement plastic free behavior and actions.Through working together as one global movement,we know that the impact we make in a local level will contribute to global system change. #breakfreefromplastics.

Well put! plastics in their nature are harmful to the environment when they are left exposed on the ground. Embracing circular economy remedies this problem as the plastics are restored back into the economy

Outdoor clothing company , Patagonia is always on the top of eco-friendly companies.. Patagonia proudly states they are in business to save our home planet .Cheers to Yvon Chouinard a sustainability pioneer who started Patagonia in 1970. She is deeply concerned about climate change and the loss of the natural world. Patagonia uses renewable which aligns with business to inspire and influence environmental solutions. The company has installed solar panels on its buildings and local communities as a means of power which are environmentally friendly. Furthermore,Patagonia recycles its own products and uses recycled materials for new products. This decreases the use of intensive new materials. It rejects fast fashion by creating high quality, long lasting products and offers repair and reuse programmes. Much of their raw materials are recycled or grown organically in order to reduce their environment footprint. They also claim to be completely carbon neutral by 2025. They work hard to keep their products out of landfills .They encourage people to buy 2nd hand clothing instead of buying new keeps clothes out of landfills and prevent new articles from being made. Just urge all companies to copy from you in order to maintain a sustainable environment.

Building the biggest heated oil in the world is expensive work . Fortunately Total and CNOOC can't do it alone. They need support from investors ,banks and insurance firms around the world. Its our job to highlight the risks ,crank up the pressure in boardroom and make sure EACOP is starved of the corporate and political support it needs. Not only will EACOP devastate communities, endanger wildlife and cook the planet, but also it is economically reckless. The future of East Africa relies on building sustainable diversified and inclusive economies. Not by letting huge multinational corporations extract resources and keep the profit. The whole world is waking up to the fact that we need to stop burning fossil fuels. For Climate; EACOP will fuel climate change by enabling the extraction of oil which will generate over 34 million tons carbon (iv)oxide emissions every single year.To stop the climate crisis, we must stop building new fossil fuel projects. For nature; EACOP will rip through some of the world's most important animals nature reserves. There's also concern that the pipeline will open up more critical ecosystems to even more extraction. For people; EACOP threatens to displace thousands of families and farmers from their land and has already disrupted the livelihoods of many. If allowed to move forward,it will also place at risk vital water resources that millons of people rely upon for drinking and food production. #STOPEACOP

The EACOP must be stopped! Companies like Total are just exporting the climate crisis to other countries and selling their projects as "development" and growth when it will just destroy ecosystems and life

There's this one pain every living organism feel when biodiversity is lost and instead of the organisations and banks thinking of it,they are actually thinking of making profit, not even thinking of the future .....it's sad but they have to stop the funding.

Climate change is one of the most critical global challenges of our times. Recent events have emphatically demonstrated our growing vulnerability to climate change. Climate change impacts will continue affecting agriculture, and further endangering food security, to sea-level rise and the accelerated erosion of coastal zones increasing the intensity of natural disasters, species extinction and spread of vector-borne diseases. This issue is of immense importance for every global citizen, no matter their background, race, or age. Climate change endangers the existence of humanity hence, it requires an initiative against it globally. In their continued efforts to raise awareness of the climate change crisis in Kenya and the African region, We Don't Have Time Kenya chapter team led by the WDHT Africa representative Mr. Patrick Kiarie joined the climate youth and governance summit organized by Youth Green Space Action And Network. This partnership between the two organizations blended well because of their shared goal, which is to raise awareness and put a stop to climate change. During his speech, Mr. Patrick liberated that every generation in the world has its special purpose and the current generation’s purpose is to curb climate change. He urged the youth in attendance to take it as their responsibility to see that the coming generation finds a desirable planet to live in and that can only be done if climate action is taken now. The action of bringing together youths and policymakers in the government was crucial as it gave the young people a chance to air their grievances to the government officials and offer ideas on policies that are needed to strengthen the fight against climate change. In attendance was the President of the National Youth Council of Kenya Mr. Roy Sasaka Telewa and the Kenya Institute For Public Policy Research And Analysis (KIPPRA) Mrs. Rose Ngugi the top people in the government that are responsible for running youths' affairs and making policies that will make people's lives better. The reason why the summit was so invested in youths was that they are the biggest percentage of the global population and leveraging on them will positively affect the fight to curb climate change. In her speech, Mrs. Rose Ngugi mentioned that the fight against climate change can be won if only people come together and dedicate themselves to achieving a desirable planet. She urged the youths to participate in policy-making processes, attend public participation meetings, and use social media to air their grievances and ideas to the government and institutions. She urged those in attendance to change their attitude towards climate and the environment, as this will enable them to conquer climate change. The summit allowed the youths to speak out and give out their ideas on how Africa can reach its desirable climate targets within a short time. The CEO of the Kenya National Youth Council (NYC) Mr. Roy Sasaka Telewa stated that the youths are better placed to fight climate change because they make up a huge percent of the global population and are adept at spreading new habits and technologies. Compared to the other groups in the society they have the most knowledge and ideas on how to curb the climate crisis. He also liberated that if no action is taken now, climate change will affect the youths more than any other group in the society threatening their future. He called upon the government and organizations globally to support and empower the youths, as they have a high chance of curbing climate change. The youth are adaptable and can quickly make low-carbon lifestyles and career choices a part of their daily lives. Youth should therefore be given a chance to take an active part in the decision-making at local, national, and global levels. They can actively support initiatives that will lead to the passage of far-reaching legislation. A more defined role should be given to the youth to prevent the impact of climate change. It is essential to conduct major studies among youth regarding awareness about climate change as well as the role of youth in combating climate change. The We Don’t Have Time team thanks Youth Green Space Action and Network, those in attendance and encourages everyone to participate in making the dream of having a safe and desirable planet for us and the future generations.

*** WHEN THE UNIT DOES NOT EQUAL ONE *** This behavior of bees is called "festooning" and we can observe it when the bees are working together to create a honeycomb or repair it. They join their legs in the form of a living chain called "festoon" and so they can build their honeycomb. "Joining is a beginning; Being together is progress; Working together is a success." What climate change has in store is not that kind of thing, not a great recession or a great depression but, in economic terms........a great drying. David Wallace once quoted in the novel"The Unhabitable World"............"Infact ,more than a half of the carbon exhaled into the atmosphere by the burning of fossil fuels has been emitted in just the past three decades." Which means we have done as much damage to the fate of the planet and it's ability to sustain human life and civilisation is probably zero.. So we have to come up with ideas that will help us fight climate change and most importantly fight the hazardous fossil fuels which gives out the largest percentage of pollution.

Nzambi Matee is a trained engineer that founded the Nairobi-based startup company Gjenge Makers. She created a lightweight and low-cost building material made of recycled plastic with sand to make bricks that are stronger than concrete material, fighting pollution and poverty by providing cheaper building material. The bricks are being used as paving stones in houses, schools or streets, the product is highly durable and diminishes its maintaining cost. Gjenge Makers produces about 1000 bricks per day, "recycling close to 500kg of plastic waste a day". "Plastic waste is not just a Kenya problem, but it's a worldwide problem... Here in Nairobi, we generate about 500 metric tones of plastic waste every single day and only a fraction of that is recycled... We decided what more can we do instead of just sitting in the sidelines and complaining. Essentially, companies have to pay to dispose the waste, so we solved their problem," said Nzambi Matee. Thanks to this initiative, Matee was named Young Champion of the Earth 2020 Africa winner at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). https://www.gjenge.co.ke/ https://worldarchitecture.org/article-links/egmeg/kenyan-startup-founder-nzambi-matee-recycles-plastic-to-make-bricks-that-are-stronger-than-concrete.html

You cannot save the earth by supporting by a system that is destroying the earth.A system that continues to spew Carbon (iv) oxide in the atmosphere.14,000 times faster than nature has over the past years. We do not need to test down the system and priotize saving life on earth. So let's watch our carbon footprint by 1.Reduce our meat consumption 2.Refuse single use plastic 3.Reduse and rethink our transportation And finally, let's try calcute and manage our carbon footprint to find out our personal estimated yearly Carbon (iv) oxide emissions.
