More than 99% of the remaining coal-fired power plants in the US now cost more to operate than it would cost to replace them with new renewable energy. The report shows that the plummeting cost of renewable energy, which the Inflation Reduction Act has further accelerated, makes it cheaper to build solar panels or a cluster of wind turbines and connect them to the grid than to continue operating all of the coal plants in the US, except one. Most coal plants in the US are deteriorating and getting more costly to keep operational, while much cheaper natural gas has become a preferred energy source. Despite a 55-year low in coal production in 2020, the industry saw fleeting signs of recovery following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which drove up the price of energy globally and prompted countries to find alternatives to Russian gas. Because of this, coal is unlikely to completely disappear in the immediate future as many utilities remain deeply invested in the fuel source. Renewable infrastructure, such as energy generation, new transmission lines, and storage to cope with intermittent delivery, is not yet robust enough to cause coal to be shut down in mass, but the end is near. The era of coal appears to be over, a sentiment backed by last year’s climate spending. Harvard University economist James Stock says coal is no longer economically competitive. In speaking to the Guardian newspaper, he said: “We can’t shutter all these plants tomorrow, we need to do it in an orderly fashion to support grid reliability but we should be able to do it in fairly fast order,” he said. “Coal has been on a natural decline due to economics and those economics are going to continue, this is a transition that’s just going to happen.” “We built a lot of coal plants in the US around 50 years ago because we were worried about energy security in the world. That made sense at the time and they made an important contribution. But we know a lot more now about climate change, so now we need to make different decisions.”

Sustainability is the goal
On September 15, we hosted an intimate event during a UN General Assembly side event to formally launch our DaVinci intelligence engine, and to celebrate the vibrant community of changemakers who have now begun to operationalize SustainChain as a public service platform and action hub for rapid innovation, investment, and impact. Our community has now grown to 1,300+ users thanks to new partnerships with Design for Freedom by Grace Farms, the State University of New York, United Cities, XPRIZE, and more. From building net zero cities, developing breakthrough tech innovations, to moving entire industries to adopt sustainable practices, these organizations are bringing their networks into SustainChain to get there faster. Amina Mohammad, Deputy Secretary-General for the UN, recognized SustainChain's ability to bring together organizations that are committed to leading the change. "In this room today, solidarity is well and truly present,” she said. Dr. Jeffrey Sachs, President of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network, shared what it takes to move the needle on the SDGs. “That is what SustainChain is all about: making actual business work, figuring out what are the new business models - they’re within reach,” he said. "It's literally the foundation of a digital public good of a digital utility, which has the opportunity to fundamentally transform this great challenge of our time," said Chris Murphy, CEO of Thoughtworks North America. In the future we have two possibilities, in the first scenario we have a forecast based on the observation of our current society, the population continues to grow, or at best it remains, but we continue to consume resources at an accelerated pace, the technological evolution of the rich more automation, which eliminates more jobs in production, the poor have fewer jobs, and so the rich get richer and the poor poorer, which increases violence, money becomes fully digital, when a place is hit due to the strong storms caused by the collapse of the climate, communities are left without energy or internet, the community without access to money loots the commerce to avoid starvation, as much as the energy supplied is clean in this future, we have many social and environmental problems, in the scenario 2 we have a forecast based on the anti-problem equation, an agreement made by the UN with the world government as it did with the 2030 agenda, this agreement implements strategies for governments ernos to reduce the world population, adjust the economy as the population decreased, prevent technological advancement by taxing automated companies and benefiting companies with humanized work generating more employment, until reaching the ideal level of inhabitants for the harmonious coexistence of the human being with the environment environment, at this point, the world is reset and our social structure is reorganized, everyone has the right to a hectare of land, everyone has the right to unlimited consumption of what is manufactured and produced by autonomous factories, even if the inhabitants consume exaggeratedly, there is no a strong impact on the environment because there are few inhabitants, the population asks for their products through an application like the recurring purchase from Amazon, which is delivered to their homes through automation, a house with five people, for example, would be entitled to five hectares of land, a very large space for children to scream, play, to do some maintenance at home without waking the neighbor, violating ence decreases because there is no economy, everyone has equal resources and there is no point in committing an assault, wars decrease because the people are one, sharing the same language and the same law, there are no countries, we are one planet, there is no armies because the technological weapons we have are more powerful than any army and enough to defend us from external threats, science advances fast because it is done with enthusiasm by people who like it and do not depend on budget, this is a truly sustainable world. I need contact with leaders to present the most diverse ideas I have. rudineimorais6@gmail.com

Congratulations!
Eco Greetings, Climate Change, Disaster Risk Reduction, Pandemic/Infodemic Resilient LifeStyle Greetings. I am a great appreciator of the US CoS amongst other equally active for a few good number of reasons : US as a Civic Society, # It gave the world great leaders who helped the community enabling it to care for itself. In the recent past, It could be Sir Henry David Thoreau, who is a teacher to a Naked Fakir Gandhi who practiced non-violent civil defense and could be an icon to mobilize one-fifth of humanity in India to get its political liberation. Yet the story is incomplete without another Indian who got his mindfulness in the US at Columbia University. It was Ambedkar who understood that inequality challenges well-being. Humanity, justice upholding Buddha philosophy linked Constitution of India emerged by this learned social engineer who got educated in the US. . The above global background and conscience building, either way, are evident in the last century itself. US President John F Kennedy, 1960s " The hottest Places are reserved for those who maintain noble neutrality in moments of crises" and US President George Bush(Sr) " I do not have money for Climate Change" at UNCED 1992 are direct reflections of a US Cultural Heritage. American Civic Societies' prowess was possible after Senator Gay Lord Nelson ran around the pillar to post to make earth home in peril for over decades. Ultimately, Earth Day 1972 stood up as a citizen flag of concern and action. Later, it is also gratifying to know, how over 15,000 Scientists and Engineers rouse to say to the nuclear option of mutually assured destruction. Feel proud that Earth Day Network EDN Cited one of our Community enabling zero cost UNEP UNESCO IEEP 1977 Guidelines based Environmental Education Model was cited as one of 20 best eco-education guides by EDN2000. It was a fact of life or comedy of errors that one US President at UNCED 1992 is having no mindfulness and money to commit to climate change and another US President in 2020 goes on Knees praying for Angela Cyclone not to Hurt Americans. In less than 3 decades there is a sea change in the US civic conscience as a change for good. I had also a rare physical experience in Climate change. This was during my visit to the US for the 6th Planetary Defence Conference at Maryland University,Washington DC, USA in 2019. Stayed for a week at JSS Spiritual Centre, Gaithersburg, Washington DC, In which within four hours more than 5 weather conditions changing were seen. Recently heard from former US Vice President Al Gore that every third American is a victim of Climate adverse impacts. It is indeed better late than never guilt of our unsustainable life style came out adfter 3 decades. It is indeed a matter of pride that US CoS is marking on very good work of UNSDG. PSF People Science Forum a Space Eco Litercay Zero Cost Community Enabling voluntary initiatives wold like to be a Community Enabling Partner. Enclosed are few fliers on PSF activities. Pl feel free to get networked at your convenience and priority, It is philosophically correct that Together only we can make a difference, Yet US CoS and PSF can make a difference. As of now, Carbon Foot print is expressed well enough. As the bottom is heated up for risk of life, but the Carbon Head Print with Mindfulness is yet to be seen. Otherwise, the following wouldn't have been the scene,' Such as # 01 : Heads of State stretching Carbon Net Zero to Decades as If they are going to be alive by then. # 02 : Not accepting Fossil Fuel subsidy as a old proverb: "Need to Save Rice but also satisfy the relatives: # 03 : Few Climate activists also do not possess a Carbon Head Print without hair dyes and cosmetics. # 04 : Inspite of 100s of locally led community based climate adaptation not a liberal support comonh forth. # 05 : In spite of Agenda 21, UNEP IEEP UNESCO Mandates community enabling by education forgotten. Many more, are the winners such as, 1) Community which has lived through Pandemics, Disasyers and now Climate Change. 2) Team We Don't HaveTime, and every committed stakeholder. 3) Pulasting humanity in spite of widening gap between the rich and poor.
