Climate resilience: From the COP to our individual actions. Together with The Climate Reality Project Latin America, UN Environment Programme and the incredible participants of "La Tierra en Fuego" we talked about what the COP is, how we can all be part of climate action and shared my testimony as a young loss and damage negotiator at #COP27. Here are 3 valuable learnings from the "Climate Resilience" session at the Makesense Americas event in Mexico: 1️⃣ Collective resilience: Resilience lies in union and joint action. It is urgent to change the narrative and understand that we can all contribute to the solutions to climate change. This space was vital to understanding that collaboration takes different forms and that we can improve our actions by listening to the experiences of others. 2️⃣ Crisis of imagination: At the World Cafe we wanted to break the crisis of imagination by reimagining our role in our community. By sharing experiences, we realized that, within our individual circumstances and capabilities, we have more influence on climate solutions than we think. 3️⃣ Awareness and education: You don't need to be an expert in climate change or travel to the COP to make a difference. Perseverance and constant action are keys to a sustainable future. However, sharing and learning how the decisions at COP28 will affect us all is essential. How can we inform more people about what will happen at #COP28? https://youtube.com/shorts/_yxjniZl5H8?feature=share

Do you recycle? Many of us have felt the weight of this question. The truth is that it's not as straightforward as it seems. Location matters: The recycling landscape varies dramatically depending on where you live. Some countries have revolutionized their recycling systems, making it mandatory and efficient. Yet, in places like Mexico, it's a different story. Here, we can't always count on our discarded items finding a new life, forcing us to find special centers across the city. A great solution I found for my city is a comprehensive map of recycling centers. A spark of hope, right? Indeed, it is, but it comes with its challenges. The real struggle? Finding a center nearby, at a walking distance, to minimize our carbon footprint in the process. The map has helped me to dispose of electronics, cables, phones, and vegetable oil. However, it took me years to find this solution. So, the next time someone asks, "Do you recycle?" don't feel targeted. Instead, consider the deeper question: "Why?" Is it because of you, your habits, or the system's limitations in your city? It's an invitation to reflect and push for community change. Recycling isn't just about individual action; it's about systemic change. It's an individual and collective effort and shared responsibility.

Earth Overshoot Day was on August 2nd, but when is your country's Overshoot Day? A country's overshoot day is the date that the Earth Overshoot Day would fall if everyone on the planet consumed like people in that country. It is as early as February for some countries like Qatar and Luxembourg. For Canada, UAE and the United States it is on March 13th. For the UK, it is on May 19th; for Mexico, it is on August 31st. This means that we have exhausted all natural resources for the rest of 2023 and we are in debt with the planet. (A debt we can't pay)

"Australia has never been more united on calling for strong action on Climate Change. At the Better Futures Forum 90+ Groups have come together to call for Australia to match our allies and commit to halving our emissions by 2030. In the past climate change has divided Australia, today we see organisations from across society and industry all coming together for the same purpose. Everyone wants Climate Action! The Medical professions The Unions The Super funds The cities Charities The Indigenous Peoples’ The churches The energy representatives And even mining magnate Gina Rineharts’ mining company, Vulcan Energy. It goes on and on… They have all called for a rapid shift away from fossil fuels to renewables to protect Australia as we enter the ‘zero-carbon age’." https://smartenergyexchange.org.au/its-undeniable-now-australians-want-ambitious-action-on-climate-change/ Meanwhile... "Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison is planning a new pro-carbon tax, whilst stifling the solar industry - let's stop him before it's too late. The Morrison Government has adopted a comprehensive pro-coal, anti-solar agenda, CoalKeeper, that could cost Australian taxpayers up to $430 a year, including: · An annual $7 billion CoalKeeper subsidy that will allow unprofitable, ageing, polluting coal-fired stations to operate well beyond their lifespan; and · A new SolarStopper tax on solar farms (also known as the Congestion Management Model. These are the worst possible policies at the worst possible time. Today, State and Federal Energy Ministers will be meeting to discuss CoalKeeper - Scott Morrison's proposed pro-carbon tax, which will be used to subsidise ageing coal & gas-fired power stations." https://smartenergy45228.ac-page.com/stop-coalkeeper IT'S TIME WE PUT AN END TO THIS TYRANNY! Thank you to Smart Energy Council for uniting the people against our corrupt government for the common greater good.

Absolutely agree! We down under are sick and tired of Scomo posturing with Big Brother across the Pacific. He is too interested in spending billions on Nuclear fuelled submarines in some bizarre self admiration society with Biden and Boris to give 2 (expletive inserted here) about the real danger in this world of fossil fuels. The sooner we rid ourselves of this disgraceful administration the better. I’m sick of being laughed at by the world!!!

Desert Control

The soil under our feet and its vital life is collapsing at an alarming pace. But it's happening "out of sight, out of mind" for most people. I can feel it, though, deep in my heart. Twelve million hectares of fertile land perish to desertification every year, which equals 2000 football fields per hour. If you line up the football fields along the highway, you must drive at 210 kilometers per hour just to keep up as they turn into desert. Healthy soil is full of life. 95% of all earthly species of biological life may be found in soil, and more carbon is stored here than in the atmosphere and in all living plants, animals, and humans combined. The 12 million hectares is in weight of carbon-capturing biological life, equal to 25 million African elephants – silently lost every year. June 17th is the “World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought.” It's not a day to observe in silence; it's a call to action for a race against desertification and degradation of vital topsoil – a race we have to win! We have already lost one-fifth of our planet's fertile land to soil degradation and desertification, harming the livelihood of almost half the planet's population. Its knock-on impact on biodiversity loss and accelerating climate change is further threatening all life on earth. Research shows that global agriculture may have less than 60 harvests left if the current pace of desertification and soil degradation continues. That is, if we don't run out of water first; because growing food requires water, lots of water! The water footprint of a hamburger is around 2000 liters, and a small cup of coffee more than 130 liters of water. Agriculture already consumes more than 70% of all available freshwater on earth. And when soil turns to sand, even more water is needed just to maintain current production. And the reality is that our growing population will need more food in the next 40 years than our planet has produced over the last 500. So how to win this race? The solution may be right under our feet. Stopping desertification and restoring our planet's degraded soil ecosystems can offset 5-6 gigatons of CO2 annually. By further fostering soil health to halt and reverse deforestation, we gain another eight gigatons per year. That's 57% of the Paris agreement's 2DS target! I'm personally involved with innovation and green-tech initiatives to foster soil health for land areas suffering from desertification, water scarcity, and challenging climatic and environmental conditions. The results are inspiring. Improving soil health with better water-holding capacity leads to increased agricultural yields using far less water and fertilizers. In turn, this reduces pollution and increases carbon storage while reversing biodiversity loss and improving the livelihood of farmers at the same time. As much as one billion hectares of degraded land can be restored over the next ten years if there is; political will, financial support from investors, and action from corporations and individuals. Succeeding will safeguard the future of our planet for current and future generations. Are you ready to join the race?

Maybe we can achieve this by reconnecting with ourselves and with nature so that we can create a better future. But, what does "reconnect" mean? For us, it means to remember that we are a part of nature and that our lifestyle has caused us to distance ourselves from this. When was the last time you walked barefoot on the grass or preferred to visit a park instead of a store? When was the last time you observed nature? Being part of We Don't Have Time is a huge step. I believe it is important to make an effort and keep in mind those messages that resonate and inspire you to build the world where you want to live. It is also important to be a critic of what you read and see because some of the messages companies share could not be reflecting true changes. We don't need more empty promises but a real plan of action that starts today!

MPs have voted in favour of a new law that would mean large supermarkets in France must dedicate 20% of their surface space to food refill stations by 2030. The law was put forward as an environmental “climate and resilience” measure, to reduce plastic packaging. But it is not yet definitive. After being passed by parliament it must also be passed by the senate, which will discuss the matter in May. If passed, it will apply to shops that are 400m2 and over and will make it easier for shoppers to use their own reusable containers when buying dry products like rice, pasta, cereals and beans. A sincere letter dedicated to the climate strike movement. There are thousands of amazing reasons why we should join the Climate Strike, but I am going to share with you only one reason, the one that at the moment resonates with me the most. Right now we are not living our life to the fullest. Although we may believe that we have everything we have ever wanted, the truth is, we all lack a lot of things that are actually free and should be guaranteed to everyone, for example, unpolluted air, green areas, or clean drinking water. I believe that we should care a lot more about not having microplastics in our stomach, wanting less natural disasters, eating real organic and nutritious food, using chemical-free products that do not cause diseases, and of course, the chance for every person to have the same opportunities. Yes, it is painful to think that right now we are all being affected by the climate crisis. Of course, vulnerable groups live in conditions much more worrying and there are some that are being severely impacted by climate change, discrimination, poverty, and so on. Today can be the day that we can direct our energy to the issues that need urgent attention. Today may be the day when everyone listens. Today may be the day when we realize that sustainable living is about creating freedoms for everyone. As always, it is easier said than done. Are we too late? I don't believe so, but if we are, I am still going to try my best for nature, my loved ones, me, and you.

Have you heard that the future will be circular? I am very excited about this reportage because I interviewed outstanding experts in the field. For starters, you'll read the shocking testimonies of: - 🌍 Montserrat Palomar, Mexico's Sustainability Manager at Enel, a multinational recognized as one of the most important sustainable energy companies. -🌎 Emma Ruiz, Master in Environmental Science and Water Treatment. - 🌏Francisco Vidal, Doctor in Economic History. - 🌍José Ferrer, entrepreneur and founder of Desplastifícate, a company that follows the circular economy model. 🍃Finally, the image follows the "RESOLVE" framework of the Ellen McArthur Foundation but we thought we could be creative by following this framework from a consumer's point of view. 🍃 So if you want to know what is the circular economy and how it can change our lifestyle, check out the reportage here: https://greenreconnection.com/the-future-will-be-circular-what-is-the-circular-economy/
