According to the Swedish Energy and Climate Plan, the target is to make Swedish electricity production come from 100 percent renewable sources by 2040. We at Eljun are working for this vision to become reality as soon as possible and that is how our project in cooperation with the Swedish Energy Agency (Energimyndigheten) was born. To prove the capacity of an energy-sharing community we engaged four farms for the pilot project. In the project, we provided support to four farms located approximately 3 kilometers apart in the village of Näshulta, in Södermanland County in Sweden. Three of these farms had their solar panels installed and were looking for a better way to utilize the excess solar energy. The owners of the fourth farm were considering the opportunity to invest in the installation of solar panels but haven’t done it yet. We offer to connect the excess energy from other farms to their neighbours. “If we have a significant overproduction of solar energy in Sweden then we may need to pay extra to get rid of it. We would like to invest more in solar energy but the current regulations in the energy sector make it complicated for us to do it”, says Anders Kruhsberg, CEO Haneberg Säteri, the pilot customer. As our most impactful climate action of the year, let us share a few benefits of the Näshulta model: - Energy is produced and consumed locally. Keeping the value of the energy within the community not only increases its resilience but also contributes to community building. Today you help your fellows and tomorrow they help you. - Incentivizing renewable energy transition. Instead of wasting the energy or selling it back to the grid for bad prices, we help them to sell it for the price of their choice to people who need it. In the long run, we hope to make it more profitable and less stressful for everyone to invest in renewables by helping them to engage in energy sharing solutions. - Enabling the sharing economy model. This is our way to combat the waste of local and renewable energy by finding a new owner for it. Instead of seeing waste, we choose to see opportunities. Our vision for the future of renewable energy is that what used to be excess energy moves from solar panels to charging stations and eventually to cars. Circularity is near and it is in need of good energy. This is how we take charge of the future of renewable energy. We already helped build a blueprint, prototype, and solution. A blueprint that could radically help the world to a fast and purposeful change that only entails financial and environmental benefits. Purpose, planet, people, and profit (for everyone) in one. Yesterday, we joined WDHT’s COP26 Backdoor event about Energy and Transportation at their Stockholm Hub! Hearing about all the sustainable initiatives from big to small companies made us very impressed and inspired. We particularly admire the small and middle-sized companies’ ambitions to reach green goals sooner than later (we are with them there) and by the big corporations who do not shy away from investing in renewable energy and transportation throughout their production chains. Did you tune in to the broadcast? If so, what were your biggest takeaways? And don’t miss tomorrows broadcast from the COP26 Backdoor event. In May this year, The European Court of Auditors published a report on the European Commission’s support for the deployment of an EU-wide publicly accessible infrastructure for charging electric vehicles. The report expressed that the EU is waaay off the goal to reach 1 million charging points by 2025 in the EU (https://op.europa.eu/webpub/eca/special-reports/electrical-recharging-5-2021/en/). So, what was the European Court of Auditors advice to remedy this bleak projection? In broad terms, to conduct more funding analysis to support new optimization and integration adaption of EV charging projects. Well, we at Eljun think that is a splendid idea! And we suggest the European analysis team look our way for projects to support – we have an innovation that will generate more public charging points all over Europe. To be honest, it does seem like the European Commission might have already sharpened their ears to this advice. Because we recently cleared a position to enter the second step in the EU’s Accelerator Program application process! Now we just need the judges to fully commit to us in step 2. If anyone else is interested in supporting Eljun’s project, our FundedByMe campaign is still going strong! https://www.fundedbyme.com/eljun

These are optimization and integration adaption. Not on what produces the energy. So on what improves the ownership and adaption in the charging infrastructure for EV. The produced energy is stand-alone off that. But yes, more clean energy of course. Include nuclear IMHO. Kärnfull (Se) provides pure that, you could talk to them.

Oh well that's very correct! That is what we also meant, but we clearly chose the wrong phrasing, so we have now changed the words in our post. Thanks for being so observant - it helps us become better! :)
•

Ic you are wrong about there conclusions. "Our audit did not address emissions and renewable energy targets, battery development and research, and generation and distribution of electricity needed for charging stations." Ofc more clean energy is needed, with that tide everything rises.

Hi Jehannes! Thank you for your comment! Can you elaborate further? This quote is what is written in their summary, and what we base our post on (inc. other parts of the report): "On the basis of these conclusions, we recommend that the Commission should: -Propose minimum electrical charging infrastructure requirements across the TEN‑T network. -Prepare a strategic and integrated EU electro-mobility roadmap. -Develop an infrastructure and funding gap analyses. -Use the infrastructure and funding gap analyses and clarified criteria to strengthen its selection of projects. -Include clauses in project grant agreements to ensure sustainable and equitable access to co-funded infrastructure."

We are grateful that The International Energy Agency (IEA) has outlined 400 milestones the world must reach to limit the global temperature rise to 1.5C. The IEA has provided us with a clear direction and an action plan that we can all work towards! One of the biggest milestones is to make renewables like solar and wind the dominant source of the world’s energy. And it’s clear from their Net Zero roadmap for 2050, that innovations like Eljun’s concept needs to become ubiquitous in the energy sector to make that milestone a reality. So thank you, IEA, for shining a light on what ought to be done in the energy sector, it makes our job as a renewable energy company a lot easier. No, not good enough. An empty gesture. - ExxonMobil senior scientist James F. Black, said the following back in the seventies. “There is general scientific agreement that the most likely manner in which mankind is influencing the global climate is through carbon dioxide release from the burning of fossil fuels.… There are some potentially catastrophic events that must be considered.… Rainfall might get heavier in some regions, and other places might turn to desert.… [Some countries] would have their agricultural output reduced or destroyed.… Man has a time window of five to ten years before the need for hard decisions regarding changes in energy strategies might become critical.… Once the effects are measurable, they might not be reversible.” We were warned. We had the chance to reverse the damage.

Let’s talk about electrical vehicle-issues people! Have you heard that there aren’t enough public charging stations to match the numbers of electrical vehicles (EVs)? Well, that is the case. In fact, the Charging Points per Electrical Vehicle (CPEV) ratio is steadily decreasing. “But why does that matter? Doesn’t everyone just use their private stations?” Sure! But at some point, you’ll have to charge when you’re not at home too, and then there might not be a station for you to charge on and you’d be stranded, perhaps all alone... in the middle of nowhere. Not a fun scenario, right? The CPEV imbalance is estimated to increase over time, as more people buy EVs it will be even more difficult to keep up installments of public charging stations. The EUs recommendation is that every country has at least 0,1 CPEV, that’s max 10 EVs per charging station. How many CPEV do you think there are in Sweden right now? 0,05 CPEV 0,09 CPEV 0,07 CPEV (Write your guess in the comments and we’ll reveal the answer later!) Now you’re maybe thinking that it would be stupid to buy an electrical vehicle if there won’t be enough charging stations to charge it. But we need to transition from carbon emission heavy vehicles to EVs as soon as possible in order to decrease our emissions and save the planet. So, what do we do about this conundrum? You join Eljun’s Energy Club where we transform private charging stations into public ones with our new EV charging rental marketplace (among other smart things)! Say hello to Anders! This is Anders, and he is one of our pilot prosumer-members in The Energy Club. Anders has ambitions to increase his solar power production so to contribute to the growth of renewable energy in society. But then he would become a big prosumer and have to pay more taxes, which concerns him as that would make his expansion unprofitable. But! Once Eljun connects all of our consumer members to the Energy Club, Anders can start to sell energy to passing EV owners by renting out his charging station. So, by selling his excess energy, he can instal more solar panels and produce more energy without having to worry about increasing costs, the passive income from the EV charging sales will take care of that! Having learnt that you now can earn money on your excess energy while you contribute to a sustainable climate, would you consider joining our club as a prosumer member? We believe we have the tech, tools and partners to enable the availability for renewable energy the world needs. We are starting in Sweden and answering to the trending (at least in the energy sector) term of being a "prosumer". A producing consumer. Finally it does not stop there, of being a prosumer that only provides yourself with renewable energy. We are opening up for sustainable and economical opportunities via our Energy Club making it possible for you to share your energy with others. Having the tech, tools and partners we now are onboarding the people. The change-makers. Elin leads the way and we are proud to share parts of her story, being one of our first contributing prosumers. We are on-board! From concept and hard work to reality, our ship has finally sailed! The Swedish Energy Agency has granted aid for our project “Smart Farmer” that will outstretch to the beginning of summer 2022. With this project we aim together with our partners to revolutionize the way we consume and produce energy. The world has set a goal and agreed to keep the global temperature rise below 2 degrees Celsius. According to IPCC, the electricity production stands for one-quarter of the global emissions. At the same time, the need for electricity is increasing day by day making it difficult for the energy providers to manage the shortage of electricity while consequently adapting to climate change and decreasing the fossil fuel use. Moreover, the grid networks are not capable to handle the increased energy flow from different energy sources e.g., fossil fuels and renewable energy. In short, we need to change how we produce and consume electricity and we need to do it quickly. As reported by BBC, the big energy companies globally are moving far too slowly to reach their sustainability goals. Neither the planet or the people living on it will wait for them, and we will not either. The CE Delft research shows that half of all European Union citizens could be producing their own renewable electricity by 2050, and thereby account for 45 % of the total EU energy consumption. Together with The Swedish Energy Agency we have already started the transition and our intention is to reach this goal within this decade. With our “Smart Farmer” project we aim to establish a marketplace empowering consumers and prosumers (consumers who produce their own energy) – to benefit from locally produced, renewable electricity. The Energy Club, our energy-trading platform will be further developed for enabling members to buy local green electricity at a lower price, sell or share it with other members, and have a transparent overview as well as optimisation of their consumption. The Näshulta Model It is a sunny spring day as we drive to Haneberg Säteri in Näshulta, Eskilstuna. Anders Kruhsberg's estate gives a dynamic impression with cannons on the driveway and solar panels on the roofs and it's no surprise that we landed there. Näshulta is a vibrant village with a distinct and much talked-about sense of home and is beautifully situated in the heart of Sörmland, with the sparkling Näshultasjön lake as a vibrant source of recreation and tourism. It is also the same countryside where Jacob Jonas Björnståhlf was born in 1731, one of Sweden's foremost travel writers and scientists. From a relatively simple but culturally vibrant environment, he ventured out into the world and met people like Goethe, Rousseau and Voltaire. It is a countryside that breathes innovation and transformation. "We want to take back the lead" Anders says during our conversation about the future of energy systems. The opportunity to add value to their land and countryside by investing in renewable energy has not passed him or other local stakeholders by. Whether it's to become a security point for the big city of Eskilstuna next door, gain a good financial return for the future or to create an environmentally conscious change in the community, the world's first energy club starting in Näshulta is now being run by just, the people. “This provides an opportunity for individual level and farm level to own the energy supply issue and also to find a business opportunity, instead of always being dependent on the larger energy companies.” - Anders Kruhsberg, CEO Haneberg Säteri, one of the first Energy Club members Furthermore, the project will develop theory and methodology for a new solution. With digital technologies such as blockchain and AI integrated into the Energy Club, we will involve both the end-users and stakeholders to ensure the solution is beneficial and technically viable. Digitalization of the energy system Was the title of the call we had with The Swedish Energy Agency. Despite all the competition, we received their trust and our “Smart Farmer” project got chosen from all the other innovative business proposals. By digitalizing the energy sector and making it community-driven, we will deal with the global and local climate issues and giving each individual an opportunity to make a real change. We are thrilled to announce our pilot members in this project, who are the first to demonstrate the Energy Club-system. They are Hökärr trä & bygg, Haneberg Säteri, Tomastorp and Magda Säteri and are all farms located at Näshulta in Eskilstuna community. Together with them and in collaboration with the local LRF (The Federation of Swedish Farmers) Näshulta and the regional LRF organization, we will prove the concept and create the energy trading community of our future. We have brought together a team with experts and organizations we believe are the best for realizing the goals of the project. Chalmers is a leading university in Europe within research of renewable energy systems. The purpose with our collaboration is to uncover the best and most sustainable way of transforming the countryside’s electricity production and distribution. We are also delighted to be part of the IBM Accelerator Start-up program. With IBM Sweden we will develop the best IT solution for creating the most trustworthy and user-friendly digital platform. Lastly, we have partnered up with Kraftpojkarna, Sweden’s largest distributor of solar panels, energy storage - and E-mobility solutions. They will provide our Energy Club members with delivery, installation and maintenance of hardware. “I really look forward to being part of this new way of sharing energy.” - Elin Ericsson, CEO Hökärr Trä & Bygg, one of the first Energy Club members "Smart Farmer” will learn from previous projects e.g. Brooklyn Microgrid in the US, Chalmer’s Fossil-free Energy Districts (FED) in Sweden and the LAMP project in Germany, using the knowledge gained and by working closely with our partners we'll build the only true energy system we can be proud of, together. A renewable energy system powered by the people. What’s your thoughts on creating local green energy communities? Is it the right way or does it in your opinion exist an even better way?

The purpose-driven digital Harvard, a great place for sustainable innovation. To drive sustainable change and transform an entire energy system, we need to work with the right people. People who are expert problem-solvers, process designers, has a diverse background and knows how to merge purpose with profit. People from Hyper Island! 🚀 Hyper Island, which started in 1996 in a converted prison in Karlskrona, Sweden, and now operates in six countries, from Brazil to Singapore, markets itself as a hipper, more flexible version of a business school. They are famous for preparing individuals and organizations to anticipate and adapt today to the changes of tomorrow. Through partnerships with companies all over the world, Hyper Island helps create dynamic and innovative cultures that accelerate long-term change. You can find them in London, São Paulo, Stockholm, Singapore, New York City, Manchester and Karlskrona. Hyper Island was once referred to as “The Digital Harvard” and has been listed by CNN as one of the “most interesting schools around the world”. We couldn’t agree more. We have been a Learning Partner with Hyper Island since 2019 and it’s been our best decision so far. Being able to work with the raw talents of engaged students, willing to learn and solve unfamiliar problems in a way that challenges the entire education system is right up our alley. One of the absolute best and most rewarding thing about working with Hyper Island is the diversity of people within their teams, programs and classes. Being able to work with people from all around the world, with various background and experience towards a common goal, in a creative setting is extremely rewarding and highly recommended. To stay true to our statement of there not being any other way to lead progressive sustainable change, then by doing it together with other change agents. We wouldn’t want to do it with anyone else than the students of Hyper Island. How do you stay up to date?

"We've always done it this way" is one incredibly dangerous but yet very common mindset. There's always that one time where you've had a great idea but it gets shut down because it is "out of line", and most of the time it is not ill meant. Managers have budgets to maintain, companies have shareholders to please, and so on. There are rules, both written and unwritten. However, when it gets destructive is when the entire culture is based on that mentality. And ironically that culture is strong in possibly the most important sector that urgently needs a change. The energy sector. Now, I don't mean that we are not moving towards more renewable energy sources, or denying the massive growth in electrification of practically everything, but I mean to really take a look at the real root causes of the issues that exists today. Things like large centralized production with inefficient energy transportation causing grid congestions, poor design and integration compatibility of fluctuating energy sources (such as practically all renewable energy sources), and the fact that the value of making investments and benefiting from the gains into smart and green technologies are limited to a few, really hinders a true transition into a sustainable energy system. Why is it that although renewable energies such as solar is just getting cheaper and cheaper, our grid and energy bills keep increasing? Something needs to happen. Something different. And just accepting the fact the energy system and its economic value chain is "optimal" just doesn't seem right to me. Instead, an energy system that is democratized where the end consumer, and their natural evolution to prosumers - self producing consumers, is not an after-thought is that better way. Where one is not punished for investing in and installing too many solar panels. Where one is in control of thier own energy. Where one is a member of the energy system, and not just another "grid connection". What is your thoughts? Do you feel like you are in control of your energy or just another customer?

Not often is an industry forced into change as much as what the energy sector is experiencing today. Not just because of climate change actions, but the entire social drive for a sustainable future. And with every industry with lots of legacy, change and new mindsets will always be resisted. But at the same time, we have no choice. Change must happen, and we can't just apply "duct tape solutions". Just as we need political and technical solutions, we also need new economical solutions. And at @Eljun, this is our mission. Where I and rest of the team together with great partners are motivated to help people lead that change.

What’s best about Norrsken’s co-working place? We would say the community. It is a place where you meet entrepreneurs and companies you might otherwise never come across. We are fortunate to find investors, bankers, lawyers, creative agencies, and other relevant partners all under the same roof. Norrsken is great at linking you with the right people to get key resources or skills to scale your business and create a greater social impact. It is a group of like-minded people where everyone strives for making a sustainable impact on the world, yet we are not the same. Everyone has different opinions, perspectives, backgrounds, and goals for changing our world. For us, that is the best about Norrsken’s community - the similarities and the differences. By inviting all these perspectives, we can create a stronger path for change. At Eljun, we are all about the community. Through our Energy Club, we give individuals the opportunity to produce their own renewable energy, optimize their consumption, and most importantly to share their energy with others. By sharing renewable energy, we build a social, stable, and sustainable energy system for existing and coming generations. According to the UN, the business sector within energy is still far from reaching its sustainable development goals. Today we have a closed value-chain limited to a few large energy companies - reaping the benefits for themselves. Energy production consists of long and inefficient transmission to the people - making it hard to transition into a sustainable future. That is why we are building the energy system driven by the people. To quote Greta Thunberg: “Every great change throughout history has come from the people. “ Therefore, we start by making our solution lead by the community of our Energy Club. Our intention is to provide all the tools needed for everyone to make the transition. Our vision is a future where local renewable energy sources are the only reasonable option, and we look back and wonder how we ever considered anything else. We feel alive by exchanging good energy and insights with the people behind 150 other impact-driven start-ups. We are already working on some exciting projects together and feeling inspired by the creative environment at Norrsken. If we can learn anything from Norrsken house, great innovative solutions often start with a shared belief, conversations, and a will to help each other out. Now we are curious. What does your community withhold and how do you help each other?
