The Swedish government must re-learn and re-route its understanding and practice of agriculture to becoming one of the world's first fossil free nations in 2045*. In recent years the Swedish government deliberately lacked the competence and responsibility within agriculture. This is a major problem since the road towards a fossil-free Sweden 2045 needs a silver-bullet to decarbonize an inherently GHG-fueled food and agricultural system. Hence I propose reinstalling a Minister for Agriculture and to simultaneously move from its current portfolio with the Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation and the Minister for Business, Industry and Innovation Ibrahim Baylan. A re-emerged Ministry for Agriculture is an absolute must and minimum. The only way to achieve the zero-carbon society goal is to enroll in a holistic and sustainable agricultural practice. We need a systemic change. A move to re regenerative farming policy has been advocated from FAO, Project Drawdown and many others**. As seen in the image, energy use/consumption 1953-2001 has boomed during what is often described as "the great transition" etc. Another way of looking at how far off from staying on route to decarbonize agriculture is to look at CO2 emissions over the 19th and 20th century. It's easy to dee this when referring to the Keeling curve, the hockey-stick graph (as coined by Michael E. Mann***), the fossil energy sources as a part of global energy usage/consumption production (in 2019, 84,3 percent of human energy consumption comes from fossil sources as displayed by Our world in Data, https://ourworldindata.org/energy-mix). Additionally, in order to understand the climate crisis, it's crucial to understand what greenhouse gases (GHG) are responsible for the climate emergency, we need to relearn some basic mathematics and agriculture, land and forestry use, and practice. Finally, we need to decode the message and discourse in mainstream media of what actually fuels (!) the climate crisis. It’s fossil energy sources, human-induced emissions from burning of oil and other fossil fuels for energy in agriculture and our whole global societies. The differences of greenhouse gases that pass through livestock need to continue to be tracked as nitrous oxide etc, but the focus needs to shift from burning of the fossil fuels extracted deep and the natural and short-lives ones through livestock and wild ruminants. Thus I like to suggest all Swedish readers to read and understand the correct mathematical differences as of methane, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, etc here: https://tradgardenjorden.blogspot.com/2021/09/ny-metanmatematik.html (Trädgården Jorden, Gunnar Rundgren). * A summary of Sweden's societal zero-carbon ambitions: https://racetozero.unfccc.int/a-fossil-fuel-free-sweden-is-within-reach/ (UNFCC) ** Read more here: http://www.fao.org/publications/card/en/c/CB6018EN/ (FAO) and https://drawdown.org/solutions/regenerative-annual-cropping (Project Drawdown) *** I also recommend everyone to read and listen to Michael E. Mann and James E. Hansen, two prominent climate scientists and straight-talkers. Follow, read, listen and subscribe to them here: https://michaelmann.net/ (Michael E. Mann), for instance about his (et at) hockey stick graph, https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2013/05/the-hockey-stick-the-most-controversial-chart-in-science-explained/275753/ (Micheal E. Using data from the interactive database "Who Owns the North Sea?" from think tank Common Wealth, DeSmog analysed the data regarding the ownership of oil and gas licences in the North Sea. A worrying trend is taking shape : as larger players like BP and Shell offload these ageing assets, a new set of oil and gas producers are taking hold of the UK’s oil and gas production. These companies do not face public scrutiny, are not accountable to shareholder pressure, and have a lesser stake in the UK’s efforts to transition to a low carbon economy. Moreover they have histories of environmental abuses and alleged labour violations and are backed by private equity and with ties to foreign governments. DeSmog analysed 142 companies holding at least part-ownership of oil and gas licences in the North Sea. 506 of which show a private or state-backed entity with a controlling stake. DeSmog found owners that promote climate science denial, organisations accused of serious labour violations, companies with links to controversial projects like the Dakota Access Pipeline in the US, and state-owned fossil fuel companies with little incentive to help the UK reach its net zero goals, including China, Russia, and the United Arab Emirates. “This shift towards private ownership in the North Sea is a gathering storm with the potential to be catastrophic for the prospects of a fair and rapid transition away from fossil fuels,” said Ryan Morrison, a Just Transition campaigner for Friends of the Earth Scotland. Dear Minister of the Environment, or as we say in Swedish, ärade minister, Per Bolund. Id' like to start with: i's actually 2022 or bust. It's as simple as that. Emissions are still rising. Sweden is not the climate leade. I'm sorry to say. But we can be the climate leader we aspire to be, as a nation and with the assisted by you personally. As Minister of the Environment and the host of "50+ 2022", you can and you should do the right thing. And there is one simple thing to do, among other ones I know you will be doing. No pressure, pun intended ;). As Stockholm ("50+ 2022",) and you yourself act as the host of the Stockholm 50+ meeting 2to be held in Stockholm, June 2022. See https://www.government.se/government-policy/stockholm50/ https://sdg.iisd.org/news/unga-agrees-to-hold-stockholm50-meeting-in-2022/. You truly call the shots and consequently bear the burden if we don't take lead by following the lead of others before us. By that I mean that you, Per allowing myself to quit the formalities, you need to do two simple things: 1) Sign a petition (4 per 1000). Please do listen to numerous Minstrers of Agriculture in many countries already signing up to the petition here: https://www.4p1000.org/ , https://www.4p1000.org/states-local-communities-international-organisations and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zo1E4TYiQJw. 2) do your part in working to re-install* a Swedish Minister för Agriculture so that we don't need to feel disempowered and ashamed anymore for the lack of such a member of the Swedish government. The main message of the "4 for 1000" is that there's a massive potential "carbon sponge" providing one of the most straight-forward, simplest solution to the climate crisis we have all been waiting for. It's a real and tangible climate solution. It's actually both simple and constitutes the foundation and founding principle of our entire civilization. And it's linked to, and will help reach numerous of the United Nations and the world's Sustainable Development Goals. Let me spell it out again: 4 per 1000, or 4 pour 1000 in French. It means to increase the level of carbon in farmland's topsoils by as little as 0,4 percent. That's it! It will suck huge amounts of carbon into the ground by natural photosynthesis and in doing so it also provides a way to store it and regenerate farmland and provide healthier soils, hence healthier food for the orld: the proof is there, this is an easy way of safeguarding the wellbeing of people in Sweden as well as globally and providing a tangible and affordable solution. Many prominent leaders and countries have already signed the petition and started working for practicing it on large scale. Thus, Sweden needs to sit at the table or be left behind, on its own hosted +50 2022 UN conference. Let's save billions of dollars, yens, yuans, euros, etc worldwide by using known techniques instead of betting for novel, future techniques with unknown effects on climate, nature, people, and prosperity. We simply don't have time to fuss around anymore. Do your thing, we've done ours! All member states of the United Nations should additionally and optimally enroll in more sustainable farming practices, simultaneously reaching multiple SDG goals such as improved access to food, safe drinking, and stabilize the climate, and boost (or halt the loss of) biodiversity. By improving organic (carbon) matter in the world's agricultural land we help safeguard humanity and prosperity going forward and steer away from a climate crisis. I leave it to you Per. I trust you with my children's lives and the lives of their generation and those to follow. Please do cherish that responsibility. And to the rest of you, please agree and share this climate idea or make a copy of this to your responsible minister or ministry. If you want to learn more about how we are doing as of SDG's, please read more here https://unstats.un.org/sdgs/report/2020/ *Mårten Thorslund: "Reinstall a Minister for Agriculture and make regenerative agriculture a solution to the climate crisis", see https://app.wedonthavetime.org/posts/0c983107-52e4-41bf-a2d4-726a076c4917

The world has lost one of the greatest eco-warriors. My Dear Friend and fellow WeDontHaveTime foundation board member Stuart Scott sadly passed away in Honolulu on Thursday, July 15th, 2021. After noble wrestle and treatments with cancer, he has left us all with deeply wisdom and courage on how to Facing Future (his own YouTube channel). Stuart's early recognition of the human impact on the planet's ecosystems resulted in a personal mission dedicated to educating the public and our world leaders about the detrimental consequences of global warming. Dear Stuart. You have helped WeDontHaveTime from the very start, and you have been an inspiration for me personally. It is tough for me to describe my feelings when I received the message that you now are gone forever on this dear planet you lived your life to love and protect! You will be deeply missed, but your message will never be diminished or forgotten. I remember one of the last times we spoke. You had so much pain, but the only thing you wanted to do was carry on your work, protecting the planet and all living beings on it. Your fight was not fair, but it was essential, and I promise you that what you once started will continue to be amplified to a volume until it can't be ignored anymore. For everyone to understand your work, I would like to share the keynote you delivered in Stockholm on the 2nd We Don't Have Time climate conference in November 2018. It was a crucial moment just before COP24. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXkGS44b0XU I wrote this to Stuart a couple of months ago: "I remember your keynote clearly. When you did it, you could hear a needle drop. 250 people in the audience, and everyone was 100% paying attention to you. It was very impressive and important. Many waves created because of it. " Stuart replied by a very long and moving mail. Here are some quotes he wrote back: "Thank you so much. This is the first email I opened this morning. I was so excited to see that you'd apparently found and sent the file. And I thank you more for the words even than for the file itself. I also remember how 'on' I was that day. One of our team was looking through my older presentations. Not many of them were recorded, and only a handful at most were recorded professionally. In fact, that may have been the only one! I remembered that the one I did for your event in Stockholm was both. I only had bits of it in the compendium you put together as "This is Not a Drill". I watched that compendium and realized that talk was perhaps the best one I've ever done. But now I realize that I had the cancer at the time. I was ignoring the pain, stupidly. Even at COP-24 which followed I took heavy painkillers rather than go to a doctor in Poland. I did my best work of any COP that year. That's when I had the privilege of introducing Greta Thunberg, who you had found on the first day of her School Strike, to the assembled world press. Svante (Gretas father) let me put his phone number into a closing slide so he could field requests for interviews. He said afterward that his phone did not stop ringing for the rest of the COP, and that he had to turn it off for long periods. I also remember saying to a colleague after the fourth press conference in four days with Greta, that "If I die tomorrow I will have fulfilled my purpose in this life." I guess intuitively, I knew my pain was grave and that I had ignored it for the sake of my work. " DEAR STUART. May you Rest In Peace. For me - You will always be missed in climate action! // Ingmar Rentzhog, founder WeDontHaveTime.org

“This is why Europe has been hit by rains and storms”, this is the misleading headline that one of Sweden’s biggest news-channels uses for a clip in which the extreme floods and rains over Germany is talked about. Meteorologist, Peter Kondrup doesn’t mention climate change in the segment, instead he talks about it as rare weather conditions. It’s dangerous when news media like TV4 fails to report about the connection between extreme weather and climate change. Below I write a longer motivation for this call for climate action in my native language Swedish, for what I hope is obvious reasons. But first and for all of you an extremely brief summary: I ask you to agree with my proposition that the Swedish Academy should award the Nobel Prize in Literature to the Norwegian author Maja Lunde. Read more about Maja Lunde here: http://www.majalunde.com/ Maja Lunde. Covid-19 may be the latest deadly disease originating from wildlife, but it’s not unprecedented. In fact, according to the World Health Organization, about 70% of all infectious diseases over the last 30 years have been zoonotic, including HIV/AIDS, avian influenza, swine flu, SARS, Ebola, MERS, and now Covid-19. At this rate, we are bound to see more zoonotic outbreaks within our lifetime, unless we change now. “Never Again” is ENV's second Public Service Announcement (PSA) addressing the connection between zoonotic diseases and wildlife consumption. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBKjR7otwhA&feature=youtu.be

The importance of good material quality and proper installations As you already may know from the previous post, it is that the material used on a roof is vital for the prosperity of the roof. The aim is to have a living roof that aids the storm water management and were insects and birds can thrive. So, is it just to buy any material from any supplier with the cheapest materials? Well it is not that easy. There are many different materials that are meant to be similar, but where the quality is compromised. The roofs may all be green and helpful for our world in the beginning, but the roofs are not meant to be nice for just a few months, but for many years. Therefore, it is important that when the roof is being installed, that it is done in the right way, with matching materials that gives the right function. Normally you build it according to specific instructions. If the construction is carelessly done, or the materials do not match with each other or the property of the roof, it may also be a reason for the sedum roof not to grow. What do we think is important when choosing a supplier and what does Urbangreen offer? - We have knowledge, and a long experience in the sedum business. - We choose good materials that we know works and are adapted to the roof angles. - We have a good reputation, good service and a close contact with our customers. - We offer advice, and guarantee. - We look at every individual roof to see what the best construction would be, since more or less all roofs are different. - We always look for solutions that are sustainable in the long run. Which can mean that we give alternatives to already given solutions. - We provide sedum mats that are cultivated in Sweden. At our production site we make sure that it the standard is high and even. But most important! WE WANT TO DO IT RIGHT FROM THE BEGGING!

Day 405: August 18th, 2020. Six decades of protections for the largest remaining wilderness area in the United States were overturned on Monday. With the flick of the pen, the Trump administration finalized a plan to open the refuge for oil and gas companies to claim stake in the Arctic plain. . While oil companies aren't interested in all 19 million acres of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, the 1.5 million acres that are of interest are also important for caribou and polar bears. The area, which lies along the coast, is the Porcupine caribou's calving area. In environmental review, lawmakers brushed it off, stating that there could be a one month "quiet period" that would allow the caribou to have their calves in peace. The coastline is also important polar habitat - a species that is already dealing with plenty of issues thanks to global warming. . It will still take years for any action to be seen in the refuge (paperwork, taxes, oil-scoping, etc.), but this is a devastating blow to Alaska's wilderness. The move is meant to bring more jobs to the Alaskan people and help secure fuel for our country's growth, but the long-term effects will be seen for years to come. Not only will the wildlife of the reserve suffer, but as we move into a time where it is ever-so important to wean ourselves off of fossil fuels, we are only digging ourselves into an increasingly deeper hole. . . I highly recommend giving this one a read to learn more about both sides of the issue: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/17/climate/alaska-oil-drilling-anwr.html . . #fossilfuels #gogreen #greenenergy #conservation #wildlifeconservation #alaskawildlife #globalwarming #climatechange #pixelplanet #pixelart #pixelartist #pixeldailies #naturelovers #natureart #naturefacts #artistsofinstagram #trumpshenanigans #westruckoil

A Norwegian study published 26 July 2020 found that the number of bird fatalities caused from collisions with wind turbines could be reduced by up to 70% with one simple and cheap solution: painting one rotor blade with black color to help birds easier spot the wind turbine easier to spot - and avoid flying into them. The rapid growth of clean energy such as wind power plays an important role in solving the climate crisis, but as always, there are several perspectives that need to be taken into account to find the most sustainable solutions that also take biodiversity and wildlife protection into account. Wind turbines can in some cases pose a danger to birds, and especially predatory birds, due to their way of flying. Painting one rotor blade black could be a very cheap and effective solution to reduce the negative impact on birds. And if that proves to be as effective as the study found - this would remove yet another argument against wind power, potentially leading to an even faster energy transition. Let’s agree and share this idea to get a reply from Vestas! The energy minister of Bangladesh, Nasrul Hamid recently signaled a major shift away from Chinese-funded coal plants in Bangladesh. He said the country will review all but three of the 29 planned coal plants in the country. "We are reviewing how we can move away from coal-based power plants", says Minister Hamid. Bangladesh has one of the largest coal power pipelines in the world. 29 power plants amounting to 33,2GW of capacity. If this policy becomes a reality, it would mean that 90% of the coal pipeline would be put under review (and hopefully out of business). It might not be all good for the climate though, as Minister Hamid also announced that the government will turn from coal to liquid natural gas (LNG). LNG has been described as a transition pathway from coal to renewables since the burning of LNG only emits half of the burning of coal. We do not have time for a transitional energy source though. When actually stepping away from coal - or at least trying to - we cannot turn to another environmentally damaging energy source like LNG. Stepping away from coal is all good, especially when China and India are the biggest financiers of the projected coal power plants in Bangladesh. But not moving towards renewables at this point, when costs for renewables are being cut every day, that's just wrong. Read more here: https://www.climatechangenews.com/2020/08/03/bangladesh-considers-scrapping-90-coal-power-pipeline/
