Dear Valio, we don't need that plastic cap. The aluminium is enough protection after openning. We have other containers at home as well. Please minimize plastic.

How come only Pizza Hut finds it acceptable to add that white plastic part to the millions of pizza boxes that they sell in Finland? I don't see other restaurants use the tripod.

Here's a small booklet in a keyboard box by apple. Around the booklet there is a plastic ribbon. This is absolutely not needed. Even if Apple is worried that the booklet won't stay tight, they could use a paper ribbon.

Apple focus on the unboxing experience is probably the most useless focus a business could have today. Apple needs to refocus its design to circularity and sustainable design. This plastic thing is probably there just because it should be a nice feeling to unbox the keyboard the moment before you throw all packaging away in the trash.

Is there a youtube channel that does unboxing reviews but from an ecological perspective?

Sustainability is an integral part of Lindt & Sprüngli's business model. In Lindt & Sprüngli's production chain, packaging material plays an extremely important role. Packaging should look attractive to consumers and provide information about the contents. But its main function is to protect the chocolate inside. Packaging ensures that our premium chocolate remains in perfect hygienic condition and protects it from external influences such as foreign odours, changes in light and temperature during transport and in the shop, so that the high quality of our products is not compromised. In regard to the packaging of the Lindt Lindor tuffle in question, please note that this chocolate with its smooth melting centre is particularly delicate and requires special protection. Aluminium foil still offers the best protection. In particular light- and hence oxidation protection is a proven quality of aluminium packaging. In order to also protect the Lindor praline from getting crushed the double-faced wrappers are indispensable. Currently, by flattening the double-faced wrapper, the aluminium foil can be separated from the plastic and could be recycled. At Lindt & Sprüngli, we take our responsibility for environmental protection very seriously in this regard, and we see it as our ongoing obligation to examine potential improvements to our packaging and - where possible - to implement them. That is why we are committed to working towards 100% recyclable packaging. It is important to note that many of the best-selling products in our range, such as chocolate bars like our Excellence line or hollow figures like our famous Gold Bunny, are already packaged in recyclable materials like paper or aluminium foil. We are also committed to reducing our packaging waste in production and to steadily increase the proportion of plastic-free packaging worldwide. Lindt & Sprüngli works with leading packaging manufacturers in their respective industries who are increasingly concerned with sustainability along the entire supply chain. This is an important criterion for the selection of our suppliers. Most of these manufacturers use modern production technology that reduces material requirements. Another aspect is that the packaging material we buy often comes from suppliers located close to our production sites in Switzerland, the EU and the USA. This enables us to avoid long transport routes and high emissions. You can find more information on our efforts in the area of packaging material in our current (next one to be published in May 2021) sustainability report: https://www.lindt-spruengli.com/sustainability/reportssustainability report: https://www.lindt-spruengli.com/sustainability/reports

Slurp.coffee not only uses new plastic for packaging their products, but also they think it's the best option. And they state that on every package. However there are biodegradable options available for packaging. A plastic manufacturer is now quoting them, saying: plastic is the most environmental friendly packaging. https://www.raniplast.com/coffee-supplier-plastic-packaging-is-currently-the-most-environmentally-friendly-alternative/

How about a form of biodegradable packaging, something that can sustain for few months before it starts to disintegrates?
•

It exists already, I've seen some coffee roastries selling their coffee in biodegradable packaging.
•

The only way it works is if they take care of their own recycling by using a loop system that captures the package back from the consumer and recycle it them selves. They can only do that if they incentivize the consumer by creating a deposit system. You get your money 💸💰 back if you bring back the old packaging materials. I'm serious about that otherwise we'll continue trashing plastic into our waters and oceans.

The initiative is quite amazing but I of the opinion that it's not just discouraging and sensitizing consumers on the hazardous use of any sort of plastics but the loud voice should reach manufacturers and the governments in halting plastic production and resolute to reusable and eco-friendly alternatives.
