The organization WeStayOnTheGround.org has made an excellent guide about how to talk about the big problem with the aviation industry and the climate. I recommend a read and a share: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Tj1Ohzx7g_6oGLFKzhNJLx57Yt009zdR/view

We are in a climate emergency, yet we continue to live our lives as normal. Why don't we act? It's not because we don't care, but because we tend to act like those around us. This has the advantage that change can happen quickly. If lots of people take a flight free year, many more will follow. In this film we hear from nine people who have pledged to be Flight Free in 2021: https://vimeo.com/488232606 Could you join them? I had a discussion with a friend about traveling on a train vs flying and we soon realised how much more expensive and time consuming it would be. I wanted to ask you if you had any ideas for how we can make train travel more appealing? How can we prove to people that it can be enjoyable? I think more work needs to be done on educating people on how to have a no-fly holiday. I think people are hesitant to do it because they haven't seen any good examples of how it can be done. @allaboard are working on this exact problem so I thought it would be a good idea for you both to collaborate. Maybe you could have them on your podcast or create a short documentary on what it is like to do a no- fly holiday? Heres a link to All Aboards website https://allaboard.eu/ Here is a link to Flight Free world's podcast https://flightfree.co.uk/podcast/

I live by MSP airport and based on what we know about the anthropogenic aspect of climate change, how can so many still fly. Planes are coming and going every minute of the day.
•
182 w
Really, this does not make sense when coal power plants are still being built all over the world, Europe included. Coal power plants = 20% / international flights = 2%. Climate action must be based on facts, not PR CULTURE
•
182 w
I completely agree we need to base the discussion on facts. Check the first argument here for some perspectives to the point you're raising. Also check the full guide linked above for the science behind the claims. https://flightfree.world/responding-to-arguments/

How can your non-profit gain income to then increase PR and in part help to solve the no flight problem. I'm studying a course in Social entrepreneurship and social innovations where we had the opportunity to reflect on your social venture. After reading about your organisation I immediately had the idea that you should start giving companies certificates if they have chosen to not use aviation as a part of their company travels. The certificate would be granted after an evaluation and that evaluation could in turn be an income for your venture. I hope your founding will increase so that the message you are spreading are heard more loudly around the world.

Scientists travel around the world for international exchange. Aviation is often one of the largest emission posts for universities and institutions. Scientists tell everyone to reduce emissions rapidly to avoid a climate breakdown. Yet, the same scientists continue to fly around the world just like normally. Until now. With Peter Kalmus initiative noflyclimatesci.org, scientists are coming together and taking a stand for replacing excessive air travel with digital conferences and similar solutions. This is a great start, as flying climate scientists hold a strong symbolic value. According to common climate psychology, if leaders start to act and lead by example - people will follow. Agree to this campaign to send climate love to Peter Kalmus and the scientists that lead by example. Agree to this campaign to inspire more scientists to fly less and spread the word to raise awareness.

This climate love is well-deserved. As we all (?) know aviation/flights typically is the major contributor ot GHG emissions from universities. Not heating, not rad transports, not food etc, but aviation. Did you also know that we have Peter posting on the platform: https://app.wedonthavetime.org/profile/ClimateHuman ?

By challenging companies to reduce business trips using air travel by 50 % in 2019, the Swedish business magazine Veckans Affärer inspired several Swedish companies to take climate action. For example, construction company NCC with 10 000 employees committed to replacing air travel with train and digital meetings. This is a great initiative and a huge step in the right direction. Let’s show our appreciation and encourage them to take the next step. Agree to this campaign to inspire Veckans Affärer to continue the challenge - and other business newspapers to share the challenge to their networks! Together, we can

I can't remember when I last flew. It must be more than 8 years ago so I can easily pledge a flight-free 2022. I dont live that close to an airport, so it isn't a convenient method of transport for me anyway. My favourite way to travel is by train but, in the UK, train travel is prohibitively expensive. Disappointing really. I wish the prices were more closely related to the environmental costs, then choosing a greener method of travel would be far easier.
