I don't think billionaires should exist. But since they do, here's how they could help: ✅push for a wealth tax ✅fund a renewables surge ✅fund Half-Earth (rain forests!) ✅fund ad campaign for basic climate truth ✅fund ad campaign to end subsidies https://t.co/84ziosNuyo

The only thing that can ultimately stop climate breakdown is to completely stop burning fossil fuels. Everything else is an addict's attempt to distract. Some things are good but far too small (e.g. planting trees & carbon farming). Some do more harm than good (carbon offsets).

Just spitballing (for now), but we might be only a few years from a tipping point in which global-scale severe coral bleaching becomes a nearly annual occurrence. This is the inevitable eventual result of a rising trend. It must be happening in other biological systems as well. https://t.co/qG6hRLE6vV

To my moderate friends: Yes, there's a desire for real change. Heard of climate breakdown? We're on a path to a permanently and catastrophically degraded biosphere and unfathomable geopolitical instability if we maintain this status quo much longer. So yeah, we want change

Every day of emissions deepens the climate hole we are digging for ourselves. Do everything you can to wake people up to the #ClimateEmergency. https://t.co/Jwy95wBAQR

Bernie is the #ClimateEmergency candidate. I take climate authenticity very, very seriously, and my endorsement of Bernie wasn't done lightly. Don't fall for these Washington Post lies. https://t.co/HSjOeSIcpC

All I want is a society that works for everyone, including kids, future generations, and other species. I don't think that's radical.

It's happening. We CAN create the beautiful world that deep down we know is waiting for us. An America that works for ALL of us, not just the wealthy elite. 🔥🔥🔥a healthy, vibrant, balanced, gorgeous planet 💚🌍💚 #NotMeUs #BernieWinsNevada #NVCaucus

It's important to remember that money is just a social construct. The moment enough of us decide neither we nor the planet can afford billionaires hoarding such truly vast sums, we can simply change tax laws and retrieve those funds - to do so much good in the world. https://t.co/yhIoTUXcAv

On Amtrak Surfliner from San Diego after a very productive Ocean Sciences conference. It was a whirlwind! #OSM20 I personally prefer smaller topic specific conferences to the giant AGU fall meeting. I’d vote for regional hub-based topical conferences with smaller CO2 footprints. https://t.co/WqVcj3uUd4

Drop off strike with Zane and friends in Los Angeles! Palmcrest Elementary is a climate-activated school. This is the energy that activates communities and translates to physical change. #FridaysForFuture #SchoolsForFuture https://t.co/KR3RssC6c7

There's only one climate emergency candidate. There's only one candidate with a huge grassroots 99% movement that now deeply overlaps with the huge grassroots climate movement. #NotMeUs beats the fossil fuel establishment. You love to see it! https://t.co/2ZVgTdGZOk

I have often thought, if someone came to a buffet lunch and ate all the food before anyone else could, they would be universally despised. Yet there is admiration for the uber-wealthy. It just doesn’t make any sense to me.

In my book, Being the Change, I wrote "Because of this leakage, an energy system built on natural gas might well be worse for the climate than one built on coal." https://t.co/vPW0SiYl8u https://t.co/jKwPY98Or1

Fossil gas is no "bridge fuel." That was a lie based on incorrect leakage estimates. https://t.co/d8SyApKhd3

I'm tired of doing everything I can to slow climate breakdown while our government does jack shit or goes in the wrong direction. It will be good to finally have a president and a congress who act with the resolve required by the situation. #NotMeUs

I see too many people, including scientists, now accepting climate breakdown as a "sad but done deal." This is the frog talking from its pot of heating water. Well I say no. My kids say no! Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Do not go gentle into that good night.

One of the hard parts of speaking climate emergency truth is that most people still think I’m crazy. It’s not easy being ahead of the curve.

I blame billionaires as much as fossil fuel execs for the climate emergency. So I’m not going to laud Bezos for pledging a small fraction of his extracted wealth to help slow it down.

Then the people have the money and power to act. Not only the scientist and NGOs who Jeff Bezos thinks are worth to be supported by his fond.

This op-ed makes me feel tired, tbh. Of *course* we all want our creature comforts. And no one wants to change. But this attitude makes us piss poor planetary roommates. We're in a climate emergency and we need to act like it. https://t.co/W9mQ3PHI22
