ISYLA have entered ‘Children of the Revolution’ into XR Sverige’s Mello Rebello song writing contest :-) Do support the artists writing for change by voting and donating if you are able - you have to be Sweden - based to vote. ISYLA, it goes without saying, would be ecstatic to do well in this wonderful competition so any support very gratefully received!! I have to say listening through other entries was a very therapeutic experience for me. It gave me a lot of inner peace to hear others lifting their voices and speaking from their hearts on this topic - it’s been rather lonely in some ways writing about climate change in a pandemic - a good reminder that we are none of us alone in this fight. https://en.mellorebello.com/mello-rebello

Hi all! I just wanted to give a little up date on my project! I aimed to write a collection of songs for other artists to take on - I have now have ten! In varying stages of completion. I have named the songs the Firebird Collection. Firebird is the title of one of the tracks and it seemed a powerful metaphor for strength in the face of adversity and for creating something new and beautiful. Most of the songs focus on the concept of pushing for change in some way. A couple take a part light part dark humoured approach. The songs tend to treat climate alongside a familiar pop music theme such as romantic love, friendship, loss, coming of age. I have tried to make them all very catchy in some way! Genres are rock, pop, indie, blues rock and folk. I might be able to share the first one to be produced soon! It’s called Sapphire and it casts earth in the role of a queen and mother who ‘needs our fight.’ It plays on spirit of the fantasy film genre. I was in two minds about pitching the climate fight using a ‘war’ analogy (as this can imply an ‘us’ and ‘them’ which can be unhelpful) but I have done it very sensitively within the lyrics and I think it works. It suits our style - and Lizzie and I will sing it - though this will probably be the only one we put our voices to. We might offer it as an ISYLA collab one. Can’t wait to share more.. Below Lizzie singing sapphire :-)

My idea here is very much in its early stages. I thought it might be useful to share it here at the start phase here incase there are any glaring issues or opportunities I have so far missed in my musings!! Despite the dire situation we face, many people remain unaware of the need for change on the required scale. Some musicians are putting their name to the climate fight but mainstream music largely does not reflect the crisis. Music is all around us - but if the stuff that reaches the mainstream rarely even mentions climate issues, it is just one more influence over people’s lives that edits out the inconvenient truth. I am writing a collection of songs with a very mainstream sound that treat climate in an accessible way. Generally either through positive, empowering messages that promote unity and activism or hard hitting messages dealt through dark humour. The songs are in a spectrum of mainstream styles RnB, singer-songwriter, alt-folk/pop, indie rock. I aim to produce stripped back demos of each song on a budget of next to nothing so they aren’t gonna sound shiny, radio-ready but hopefully good enough to communicate the strengths of the songs. I have the (granted) far-fetched plan to approach mainstream artists with the song collection to see if I can get some interest in them each taking on a song potentially attached to an event or occasion. I am in the process of seeking out a music publisher so I hope that this might open a few more doors. I am told to write hits for others one sell is to have had a hit yourself! So the idea that me as a random can rock up to anyone with clout and get them to take on my song is all rather ‘out there’ at the moment! I hope to get the demos recorded over the next few months (if I don’t get derailed with the promo for ISYLA’s next album) I have not yet approached climate live about this project which could be a perfect fit but I suspect I needed to have been working on this plan for some time to make that possible - Climate Live is currently planned for October 2021. I am sure high profile artists have two years plus of diary planning ahead but perhaps there is more wiggle room just at the moment with plans being cancelled due to covid. Apologies for length if post and well done if u got to the end! If anyone has any contributions: tips, ideas, thoughts or contacts that might help please do share. Thanks for reading! Well done ISYLA! 💚 This is a fantastic idea. I believe you could totally inspire mainstream artists to put out more meaningful music which reflects the current world global climate crisis we all face together. I feel like maybe the reasons they don’t is because they are either unaware of the severity of the crisis themselves, or maybe they are aware but just don’t know how they should convey the message, or maybe they are worried about losing their fans... which if they truly understood the magnitude of this threat to humanity that would be last thing they’d be worried about. 🤔

Playlists: SONGS FOR CLIMATE Input needed please read!! I have dived into the labyrinth that is Spotify! Inspired by others doing the same I have created a playlist: Pretty Songs for Climate’ plus so far three additional playlists full of music for change on climate. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7n0nNsowVTyWq4prUMC5hi?si=K_l4kGhRTvmuiOKNriau9g Pretty songs is a good length but Pop Anthems for Climate and Groove-driven Songs for Climate are definitely on the short side so please do listen and when u have the vibe suggest any others you think would belong. I am keen to make it feel like a playlist that has a flow in terms of the sonic properties of the songs as I am thinking that might be key to it being well played? Thoughts and suggests very welcome! I have picked songs either that are directly treating climate change or that probe on big issues that relate or underpin it such as issues of social justice, love and freedom and the natural world. I also plan to do Chill Zone for Climate. But I have in mind two from our upcoming album that could be included so hanging back - eek! Compiling now so suggestions very welcome for this one too. Ps pic is one of nine highlight posts I’m doing on Instagram and Twitter.. and these guys ROCK! Instagram/Twitter @isyla_official

The only solution to save humanity from consequences of major crisis like climate warming depends on two simple (but hard to apply) steps: - global consciousness of our situation - Then, global actions to "repair" the earth Share if you agree, so that global consciousness will improve. Hello lovely people! Thought you might enjoy our acoustic take on the synth-tactic Earthling that I have posted a link to already. https://youtu.be/EyvXdUmYWJQ Which version do you prefer out of interest?! Our newer sound features these two wonderful session players (plus two more) and all has a much more organic feel than the polished studio production vibes of album Where She Walks. I rearranged the melody with a new riff ‘I am of the earth and earth is all I am’ as it was my favourite lyric from the original and I wanted to hear it more!! Plus I had to do something so that the wonderful synth hook wasn’t too badly missed!

Hi all! Hope you enjoy our sultry live take on Isyla by ISYLA. The beat driven album version of which I posted a few weeks ago! https://youtu.be/QMLthmuCH1I One of the ways in which we feel we may have missed the spot with our first album perhaps was in seeking to create an identity through our sound. We need the music world to take us seriously to break through and driver our message to a wide audience, so our next collection of songs have a much stronger identity in terms of the sound. We created it all with the same four wonderful session musicians, two of which join us here for this live session :-) If we look nervous - we were. My first gig in 22 years ;-) Working hard to get the new album out ASAP in the new year.

A couple of months back we recorded a live session at the studio. This is our acoustic spin on 2050 from the album https://youtu.be/pPj5kxaC3Cc This song contains a lot of sadness and was one of the first I wrote on the climate change topic. The chorus is a call to action and sort of like a ‘second chance’ in sharp relief to the hopelessness of the verse lyrics. I find the metaphor of two plates pushing together helpful in encapsulating this moment in time. The pressure to change is increasing, the crisis deepening. It feel like something will have to give one way or another. I wonder whether our collective pressure and efforts as they stand will be the mechanism for change on the scale needed or whether there will be something else around the corner unseen that will be the final push... I know big carbon emitters take the lions share of responsibility to change overall emissions but I also know that the rest of us need to be ‘ready to slide’ too, to avoid further division and culture /political wars. We really can be our own worst enemies. Do you think sad songs like this are helpful in connecting with people? X Link and social media: Www.isyla.org for more. We are on Instagram and Twitter @isyla_official Also I have a silly informal song writing account @changeiscomingsong where I am currently putting story clips of us in the studio recording the second album. :-)

Songs for Change: Hi folks posting Daughter by ISYLA (iz-eye-la). https://youtu.be/cDM3qUGXc6s Apologies if you have seen this highlighted already on my personal page before I had this wider platform! I wrote this track the day after Lizzie and I agreed to do songs together. I often wonder what stands in the way of us as a collective in grasping the severity of our dilemma. I am certain their are many answers to this question. But a disconnect from the crisis is much easier when many don’t yet see it effecting everyday lives. Our children and the young people we care about are our connection with the future...I wondered if this might be a good way in for some to feel the sense of responsibility we have to address the issues head on. Very excited to be in the studio next week recording a new album with a live and jazzier sound.. When I set to to write Where She Walks I naively thought - how will I find ten different and engaging angles on climate?? Turns out I don’t have an off button for writing songs about climate change issues for better or worse so that wasn’t a problem! In the new year we hope to create a folkier/acoustic sound album - would love to hear ideas for lyrics - angles /topics/perspectives to include?

Songs for Change: This is self-titled Isyla by ISYLA: https://youtu.be/611VeUL_8PI This song was one of the last songs to be included on the album - it is a bit of download on my part and I hoped that its unfiltered nature might resonate with some people - essentially this is a song about the urgency of the crisis and the anxiety that it can understandably provoke in those that know the alarming predicament we face. The song casts nature in the role of ‘protector.’ Full credits to the producer Gareth Young who gave this exactly the nineties ‘trancy’ vibe I was after! He also wrote the fab string line that comes in after the chorus. I love the narrative that videographer John wove for the video - and Lizzie’s performance at the end really moves me. I don’t think this song would persuade anyone not already concerned about climate to come on board as it is very diffuse, but perhaps it could be therapeutic for those already aware, as well as hopefully draw people in to listen to other tracks? Filmed in Lockdown 1 - I couldn’t be present - but apparently a young child passing near by on a footpath believed Lizzie to be a fairy. :-) She is in my eyes. Would be interested to know the ages of people who this track does and does not appeal to - trying to see who I can reach with what!

I love this song, I am 24, from Australia. I love how you show your deep connection to the earth, this song resonates with me deeply. I would love to see you make a music video as a protest with you dancing around the untouched forest and finding the edge where it is currently being deforested where you just break out into a rage. You could spray tree roots at the logging machinery much like Spider-Man sprays web out of his arms and strangle the machinery until they stop in their paths of destruction. Just an idea I envisioned. 💡 Let me know what you think? 😊

Woah this is very imaginative!! Would love to have the budget to do something big like that!!! We have another song half way recorded which has an orchestral score and needs some big concepts to lift it for a video but I think maybe ‘use a drone’ is probably the most high tech we would go!

Songs for change! Hi everyone - I’m posting our video for Earthling (Radio Edit) today. https://youtu.be/1LWeQuAqtpo This is the poppiest track on our album and I asked the producer to give it a very widely enjoyable throw-back sound. I chose a love song theme as the initial set up with the lyrics so the song hopefully feels extremely familiar in its sound and content. Obviously the real love story here is our love story with our home! Lizzie’s taste are a little less poppy than mine (almost no level of cheesiness in song form is too cheesy for me if I am honest!!) but I think she warmed to this one!!!! The video concept was to help people to see their planet and it’s beauty and uniqueness again through fresh eyes...All credit to Lizzie (also a make-up artist) who spent about three hours making herself green - all costume and props reused or from repurposed items I must add!! I could happily spend the rest of my days writing songs like this if I had the money to make them all turn out this amazing!! Hahah but not sure Lizzie would sing a million!! 😬 And different ways ‘in’ work for different people of course :-) Earthling is translated into a few different languages son our website! But not Swedish - yet anyway! What sort of ‘penny dropping’ moments has anyone has through art or music ??? What views/angles/perspectives do you think I could work into further songs?? Hi folks! A big thanks to We Don’t Have Time for offering ISYLA a partnership! We write music for change on climate..today I wanted to highlight our track ‘I Want’ LINK HERE: https://youtu.be/k33nMlQiSQQ How do you communicate to people that the world has had enough of our constant consumption - without turning them off because you sound ‘preachy?’ Not sounding preachy and therefore putting people off even trying to take on ideas that might be new to them, is one of the biggest challenges I feel I face every time I set to writing lyrics that can unite rather than divide. With ‘I Want’ (and other songs!) I use the first person and put the singer in the shoes of someone coming to the realisation that the world’s resources are finite, where their own craving to acquire stuff may not be. ‘I Want’ is from debut album Where She Walks by ISYLA. If you enjoy our songs for change you can hear (and see!) more..
