The transition to electric mobility has received a significant boost with electric mobility firm Roam partnering with County Bus Service (CBS), a public transport operator, to introduce 10 electric buses by the end of 2024. This initiative comes as part of their broader goal to have 200 electric buses operational across Kenya by the end of 2026. This collaboration marks a pivotal moment in revolutionising the commuter experience within Kenya's public transportation network. CBS has already integrated Roam buses into its fleet over the past four months, gaining valuable operational insights. To support this endeavour, Roam, founded in 2017 and the first company to deliver locally produced electric motorcycles and buses, will establish charging depots to meet the charging requirements. The Roam electric buses are known for their affordability, reducing operational costs by more than 50 per cent, while also offering comfort and convenience. https://www.standardmedia.co.ke/business/business/article/2001493983/roam-county-bus-service-partner-to-deploy-200-electric-buses

In a significant move to accelerate its renewable energy transition, the Australian government is investing $1.5 million AUD to install three cutting-edge community battery storage systems in Canberra. These 160 kW / 440 kWh batteries will empower local residents, both solar owners and non-owners, to seamlessly access the benefits of energy storage without the prohibitive individual costs. This initiative is just the first step in the government's ambitious $200 million program to deploy a nationwide network of 400 community batteries, providing shared storage for up to 100,000 households. By enabling greater adoption of rooftop solar and distributed energy solutions, this visionary program represents a crucial milestone in Australia's journey towards a more sustainable, decentralized and affordable electricity grid. As the country continues its renewable energy revolution, community-scale battery storage will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in integrating intermittent sources and empowering consumers to take control of their energy future. https://www.pv-magazine.com/2024/04/24/australia-announces-community-battery-rollout/

U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said on Wednesday she intends to warn China about the negative effects of Beijing's subsidies for its clean energy industries, including solar panels and electric vehicles (EVs), during a visit to the country. "I intend to talk to the Chinese when I visit about overcapacity in some of these industries, and make sure that they understand the undesirable impact that this is having - flooding the market with cheap goods - on the United States but also in many of our closest allies," Yellen told MSNBC in a live interview. https://apnews.com/article/china-yellen-manufacturing-treasury-economics-69fa4b2bf1dca8ca408381189383717a

I'm sorry? She's getting climate love for intending to ask China to slow down on clean energy production materials and subsidizing the same? Her goal here has no interest in the climate, instead she is focused on the monetary side and sees China's huge production capacity of affordable renewable energy products as a threat to the US's hegemony in production. If anything, she should be getting a warning asking her to get her priorities right and to move her country from fossil fuels and their subsidies.
•
•
•
7 w
I don’t fully agree with this. I believe Mrs Yellen should focus instead on the enormous fossil fuel sudsidies that the US (and the rest of the world) hands out to the oil, coal and gas companies. Those subsidies has twisted the market for decades, to the benefit of dirty, planet-heating energy. This the main reason why the US is falling behind in the clean energy race.

We are in a climate crisis and must sort it as fast as possible. The US can compete by subsidising renewables instead of fossils.

Germany is largely on track to reaching its national target to reduce total greenhouse gas emissions by 65 percent by 2030, but is set to fail its EU goal for sectors such as transport, buildings and agriculture, according to projections by the country's Federal Environment Agency (UBA).
