While we should address plastic use and handling in every country it seems clear from this research that we need to focus where it really matters. https://ourworldindata.org/ocean-plastics

“With this new campaign, the company – which is known for its environmental activism and says that it is “in business to save our home planet” – wants to fire up the hopes for this most exciting of responses to climate change. It’s a movement that has already seen one million Europeans get involved in producing their own renewable electricity and sharing in the economic benefits. Some predictions suggest this could mushroom to more than a quarter of a billion people by 2050, generating 45 per cent of the continent’s electricity.” https://www.positive.news/environment/patagonia-launches-campaign-to-support-community-owned-energy-across-europe/

Really enjoyed this positive outlook for 2030. via @patagonia’s blog. Not often regenerative agriculture is part of the solution on a macro level like this. Something I’m very passionate about. https://www.patagonia.com/stories/a-letter-from-2030/story-97074.html

“This four-year global competition invites innovators and teams from anywhere on the planet to create and demonstrate solutions that can pull carbon dioxide directly from the atmosphere or oceans ultimately scaling massively to gigaton levels, locking away CO2 permanently in an environmentally benign way. Solutions will be scientifically evaluated across multiple criteria such as; amount of CO2 removed, life cycle analysis of the removal process, energy efficiency, land footprint and sequestration capabilities. Any carbon negative solution is eligible: nature-based, direct air capture, oceans, mineralization, or anything else that sequesters CO2 permanently. “

“If we’re going to remove 51 billion tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually and get to zero emissions in 30 years,” she told the Washington Post, “this is going to require drastic action.” Her members, she said, are prepared to invest a trillion dollars in the coming years on clean energy projects. “We see nothing but opportunity.” https://www.newyorker.com/news/daily-comment/the-biden-administrations-landmark-day-in-the-fight-for-the-climate

While it is important that ordinary people act responsibly and make an effort to reduce the amount of harm they cause, it is infinitely more important that corporations and those in power practice self reflection as well. They're the ones who are doing the most harm, after all.
