World meteorological organization, WMO, recommends that meteorologist institutes all over the world change reference period for Climatological Normals every 30 years. As a consequence we have a new ”normal” from January 1st 2021 and that is the period 1 January 1991 to 31 December 2020 instead of the previous ”normal” that was 1 January 1981 to 31 December 2010. In Sweden this has already lead to weather reports on TV where temperatures are communicated being normal for season that would not have been normal if compared to the previous normal period. Without being communicated by SMHI, the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute. We know that the climate is significantly more affected by global warming after 1990. This is very misleading and dangerous in a time when we all have to rise our climate awareness and face the climate emergency. I strongly suggest you to reconcider what period in time that shoud be used as normal when communicating weather and climate to the public and then communicate this to your community all over the world as soon as possible. https://www.wmo.int/pages/prog/wcp/wcdmp/GCDS_1.php See also https://app.wedonthavetime.org/posts/b2c87dbc-d985-4678-93a8-63e175c9b839?fbclid=IwAR1dtbBVFyN2oGCuFDISLG6jbb7kr8fFOS84DY8G2k0EkBI3vvX8Uc6slDQ

The second industry in the world, the clothmaking one, are starting to look into new challenges, just as consumers are. Flera av klimatsystemens trösklar har redan passerats och dess effekter är förödande. Potsdamerinstitutets grundare skräder inte orden, men tror ändå på teknikens genombrott och vårt klimatengagemang som räddning. It is very difficult to understand that climate is changing so quickly when this ”New” way of adressing figures is used. I feel close to desperation ...who Will tell the truth? The warmth is a danger...and We can still slow it down...if We know and understand...what the meterologists say.

This is so important for most people's understanding of what is "normal" weather. A lot of people still don't understand why the weather we have nowadays is so extraordinary, because it's easy to forget how it used to be. WMO should help meteorologists be more clear about the abnormality of weather patterns today!

Why is WMO doing It, whose agenda are they pushing on us?

I think it's a classic case of "We have done this for a long time so we shouldn't change it". Large organisations like this need to take responsibility and make the necessary changes.
