MEDIA: IN TIMES OF DESPAIR, REPORT THE GOOD AS WELL. HIGHLIGHT HOPE. The news today is very depressing. We are destroying the earth and now, nature will destroy us if more action is not taken. The irony of this world, drought and floods are sweeping us at the same time. My country, Kenya, is on metaphorical fire. Deaths have become a norm. Many are losing hope. I have lost count of the number of times someone has asked me, "Why would I plant a tree or not build over a wetland when someone else will just do it? No one cares, why should I not enrich myself while I still can? My efforts will not even count." It is easy to give up when all we hear is bad news. I am here with a plea to our media houses. Just as much as we report bad news, let us also highlight good things. Across Kenya, individuals and organizations are taking action, both in little and in big ways. We have children, teens, adults, females, males etc. All doing something to reverse the and mitigate the negative effects of climate change. Such news is uplifting. Such news is inspiring. Getting such news has also been made easy by platforms such as this, We don't have time and The Millennial Environmentalists' Humming Bird Awards. To the media, these are indeed, times of despair. Just as much as we report the bad, let us report the good too. Let us preach hope. By holding a lit candle up, we give others permission to light theirs.
T.M.E's project, The Humming Bird Awards, the revolution we need just now. Now more than ever, people from different parts of the world are answering the call to save the earth in their own way, big or small. This project answers the call to recognize and network individuals and organizations, who are making an effort to restore environmental and climate justice. It shares the stories of the under-dogs and the big leagues alike, bringing us closer to the development of impactful climate solutions. The Humming Bird Awards is, indeed, restoring mother Earth's dignity. The Humming Bird Institutional Awards is currently on. After registration, the organization is given the opportunity to share its story and garner votes from the public. This accelerates awareness, which is our goal as climate advocates. I would urge every organization on this platform to get on board this wonderful program. In doing so, in our own little way, we will be giving hope to other people with the humming bird spirit. Together, we can push the boundaries of climate action. I absolutely agree with you! Even if people have already given up,what we can do is at least give them hope and something to hold on,give each and every person a reason to take up the responsibility of protecting our mother nature. Lets share climate love and ideas more often than warnings because it restores hope & ignites the urge to take action.
