I don't want to be a doomer but we are facing unprecedented times ahead. What is your climate survival plan? Do you have a survival bag with water, a first aid kit, money, a mobile phone, a solar charger? A torch? How much food do you have in your stocks? I'm genuinely interested to know, perhaps we can share hints and tips. I don't want to be alarmist but we must hope for the best and prepare for the worst. Let me know in the comments below.

“Denialism’s goal isn’t to establish the truth, but to advance a rhetorical position by any means necessary” Denialism follows a well-thumbed playbook with three basic flavours: Literal denial, which is flat-out rejection of the scientific evidence; Interpretive denial, which doesn’t dispute the findings but says they are being exaggerated; and Implicatory denial, which accepts there is a problem but claims that it doesn’t justify radical action. All three exist to prevent or delay measures that might challenge the existing socioeconomic order. Graham Lawton in The New Scientist 10 March 2021 By Graham Lawton

Hello lovely people, Friends of the Earth have been so helpful in their resources for starting or joining a climate action group. They have free webinars and tonnes of free articles on how to make a difference. I made my own in my local area it's @actionblyth on twitter because there wasn't one that close to me. We're based in South Northumberland I the UK. Depending on where you live you could do the same or join an established one. I'd be interested to hear which group's you are all a part of so we can join together. The more we stick together and the more we relentlessly talk about the issue, petition, and protest, the more we will achieve as a community!

First off, I think we'd all like to show some love to WDHT. This community is so positive and forward thinking. I have gained so so many great ideas from you all and I use them in my day to day life. It's great! I have abit of feedback as well, I'm just wondering who I can send the feedback to? Like, what if the object of the climate love or the climate warning doesn't use WDHT. It would be great if there was a button to invite them right there in the give climate love to... Input box. I'm sure so many companies would love to hear about the community. Also some people have mentioned about getting climate experts on here to ask their advice. Like maybe there could be a climate advice option? I'd like climate advice from... Because they know much more about the topic than I do! I know this community is in it's early stages and a lot of this feedback will be sorted in time. It would just be great to help out and make it even better! Again, much love to you all. Keep fighting the good fight!

Burning biomass is not carbon neutral and should be considered as bad as coal. Stop subsidising bioenergy and calling it sustainable! https://amp.ft.com/content/b4be7ced-6871-48ff-9b84-57e7fb343fc1?__twitter_impression=true

Do I need it? This is a question I struggle with a lot, I'm really just writing this to get my mind off something I'd like to buy... Consumerism can be like this... Another toy and then another toy, things you like and things you want. It's a difficult cycle to break out of, but do I need it? No, not really. I can make do. I have a feeling there will be a lot more 'making do' in the future. We'll have to set our bar high for the things we consume. As a wise man once said there's enough on this planet for need but not for greed. We as a society need to think about that question. Honesty, introspection and thinking - do I need it?

Recently the UK has started to move away from coal-fired power stations towards more eco-friendly solutions. Boris Johnson has laid out a 10 point plan for moving the UK economy in a green direction and achieve net zero emissions by 2050. Unfortunately, part of that plan is bio-energy which has been proven to not be net zero. The UK now has only four fully functioning coal-fired power stations. However, some of these stations have or are being converted into bio-energy stations. Lynemouth converted to biomass in 2018 and Uskmouth is being converted to an energy from waste plant. [1] This is being treated as a renewable energy source and is counted towards the UK goal of zero emissions[2, p.26]. This is mostly due to the fact that biomass is seen as renewable or a byproduct of other processes. “… wood pellets and wood chips, bioenergy crops or even agricultural and domestic waste. It's renewable because we're continually growing plants and trees for a variety of purposes, but these processes often create residues that aren't needed.”[3] However, in an open letter to several heads of states, 500 scientists have spoken out against the use of bio-energy claiming that we need to fundamentally change our approach to bio-energy as a renewable energy source because the carbon which is emitted is not sequestered through offsetting as is claimed. “Overall, for each kilowatt hour of heat or electricity produced, using wood initially is likely to add two to three times as much carbon to the air as using fossil fuels.” [4] Let’s hold Boris Johnson responsible, first of all he took away the grants to make homes greener [5]. Now, he allowing the greenwashing of biomass burning. The goals are all there in black and white in the 10 point plant. Will we hit net zero by 2050? Only if the government is held responsible. "The UK was the first major economy to embrace a legal obligation to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050. I will establish Task Force Net Zero to take forward this national priority, and through next year’s COP26 Summit, we will urge countries and companies around the world to join us in delivering net zero globally." - Boris Johnson. This has made me really angry. I understand the idea of using the waste to build a sculpture but there shouldn't be any waste to start with because there shouldn't be any coal mine! This is a project called Northumberlandia close to Cramlington in Northumberland, it's a sculpture called the Lady of the North and was designed by Charles Jencks. It is beautiful in a way and it's easy to see why families flock there. On the other hand you can see how close the open coal mine is. The North East of England has always had a close relationship with coal, my ancestors mined it and it powered much of the infrastructure and homes around me. However, this was in the past. To think that we are STILL mining coal in the 21st century makes my blood boil. You can perhaps see some of the wind turbines dotted around in the pictures, this is the future. I don't see why the Wildlife Trust and the Land Trust has anything to do with the Banks Group who funded the sculpture. I needed to vent because this needs to stop and the barefaced attempt at winning over the public with sculptures (of mother earth no less!) will not change our minds about coal. We will not be persuaded by art installations. How about you just stop building coal mines?

What percentage are you personally responsible for? Remember this image the next time BP asks you to check your carbon footprint or your national government tells you to recycle or flight companies ask you to offset your flight emissions. To be clear, we should still recycle and control our carbon footprint and offset our emissions. However let this shine a light on the corporate hypocrisy of blaming consumers for a global crisis. To the UN, change the name of your conference. It's no longer only a change, it's an emergency. Please sign the petition: http://chng.it/g8RNDcZN

Boris Johnson promised a 10 point plan for a green recovery to the pandemic. One point was to give the British people 1.5 billion pounds to improve houses and make them greener. The British government announced that after only 5% of this money had been delivered that it would cut the program and instead promise only 320 million over a longer period. Yet another promise made and not kept by the Tory government. Grants that would combat the climate crisis and bring growth to the flagging economy have been left left ungiven. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/feb/10/hundreds-of-millions-in-green-grants-for-english-homes-pulled-despite-delays?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other
