The question as to where and and when to start mitigation? The answer is here and anywhere you may be and right now. Describing climate change as the long term consequence of widespread and continuous emvironmental destructions that result to ecological disturbances then to ecological imbalances which result to warming that causes the climate to change. But WHY and HOW do environmental destructions happen? Environmental destructions happen as a consequence of man’s desire to satisfy his unlimited and ever changing wants. How do environmental destructions happen in satisfying man’s wants? Firstly, to satisfy man’s wants he needs to consume or utilize goods and services. Man won’t have anything to consume unless he produces or other people produce these goods and services. Secondly, man can not produce something out of nothing, so, he has to make use of resources. He can not produce something with just one resource. He needs to combine at least 5 resources to come up with the desired goods. Thirdly, these respurces have to be extracted from where they naturally grow or occur. Each of these resource has to undergo the 8 Economic Activities from resource extraction up to the disposal of the wastes generated in the performance of each activity. Performance of rach activity also directly, indirectly and consequentially cause environmental destructions. It also requires so much energy, emits so much GHGs and generates so much wastes. All of these causing disruptions in the ecological balance. How many products do you have with you now? In your homes? In your offices? Under normal condition, an ordinary individual uses/utilizes more or less 100 different goods and services in a day. With these will we still wonder why global temperatures are already at these levels? What to do? Apply the concept “MAXIMIZE to MINIMIZE, that is maximize the use of almost rverything you have to minimize environmental destructions.
