On the evening of Wednesday, January 24, according to a report by the New York Times, the Biden administration is halting a decision regarding approval for what could become the largest natural gas export terminal in the United States. With an export capacity of around 20 million metric tonnes per year, Venture Global LNG's Calcasieu Pass 2 (CP2) project would be twice the size of the company's present CP plant. If built, it would make Venture Global one of the largest LNG companies in the world. This delay has the potential to extend beyond the November election and could pose challenges for the mentioned project along with 16 other proposed terminals. The directive from the White House instructs the Energy Department to broaden its assessment of the project, considering not only its economic and national security impacts but also its effects on climate change. The sources providing this information spoke on the condition of anonymity, as they were not authorized to discuss internal deliberations publicly. Notably, the Energy Department has not previously rejected a proposed natural gas project based on anticipated environmental impacts. This could be the most important climate move of the Biden administration after the IRA. I am sending Climate Love to the activist Bill McKibben, one of the loudest voices on this topic, who wrote in his newsletter about this piece of news: "I’m holding my breath as I type this post. After pouring my heart into this fight for the last six months it seems almost too good to be true." Thank you so much but the real credit belongs to great organizers on the Gulf of Mexico who’ve been at this for years. Roishetta Ozane and John Beard for example

Indeed he deserves the climate love.Great witnessing the Burden administration rethink what could potentially have dealt a severe blow to climate change mitigation efforts.

Last week was brutal for every being on this planet... and disheartening when working for the climate. Between unprecedented heatwaves and temperature records, forest fires the size of Portugal in Canada, hundreds dead in floods and more it's hard to be hopeful. So I wanted to share the latest newsletter from the author and environmentalist Bill McKibben. Maybe one of the best texts I read about the ongoing crisis. Here is an excerpt: "The current horrors are not a reason to stop working. We know from a recent study that every tenth of a degree in temperature rise that we prevent keeps 140 million of our brothers and sisters in habitable zones on this planet. And nothing has changed my basic conviction about the key: we need to keep building huge movements to finally break the political power of the fossil fuel industry and force the emergency conversion to clean energy." https://billmckibben.substack.com/p/i-told-you-so?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email

When Bill McKibben sought to put the fossil fuel industry out of business, he made his case in the media. Then he took his show on the road. https://www.nationalobserver.com/2022/09/13/news/bill-mckibben-decade-long-crusade-shame-banks-fossil-fuel

It's a shame that those in the administrative position are taking action even after all the demonstrations, warning and advice
•

If the older generations took action upon the sounding of the alarm over 50 years ago,we'ld not be cornered in the current state of climate emergency. And since little or no action was taken then, it's about time to do so and with the ultimate speed.

A bit unfair as there we no consensus among the scientific community 50 years ago ... agreement on action should have taken place after Rio in 1992
