In this video, an official at ExxonMobil blatantly describes how the company has been, for decades, disrupting climate effort. He keeps it vague, but hints at "shadow groups" leading this fight. This illustrates that transparency in political lobbying, if not outright ban of the practice, should be an important part of the green developments. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5v1Yg6XejyE Their malintent is, of course, not a secret, as Exxon has known about the implications of their business model for decades, yet chose to do nothing. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/exxon-knew-about-climate-change-almost-40-years-ago/

https://www.top500.org/lists/green500/2020/11/ And these are not just small-scale experiments: on the TOP500, which does not take efficiency into account, 5 out of 10 use NVIDIA's accelerators, including second fastest: https://www.top500.org/lists/top500/2020/11/ Why is this important? The most powerful supercomputer in the world uses 30 MW of power. This is enough power to run over 10000 average households. Luckily, this is one instance where financial and eco interests align, since efficiency would decrease cost of operation, so we may expect to see the shift to energy-efficient, accelerator-powered supercomputers in the future.
