@Columbia_Sportswear Company is an American company founded in 1938. Columbia manufactures and distributes outerwear, sportswear and footwear and equipment. Enablesus analyzed the sustainability practices of 12 ski gear brands in Europe and North America. Columbia reports on their greenhouse gas emissions and has internal reduction targets, which is good. They are also one of the few brands in our assessment that has 50% women in management positions and above. However, Columbia does not use a lot of sustainable materials and could benefit from using more organic, responsible or recycled materials if they want to reduce their emissions and ecological impact. 💚 How Columbia is doing well: - Columbia reports on is gender equality in management, where 50% above of management are women. - Columbia does good work with their supply-chain audits and performs unannounced internal audits as well as conducting 68% third party audits. - Columbia reports on their scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions, and also has an internal target to reduce manufacturing emissions 30% by 2030 based on a 2019 baseline. 💡 How can they improve: - Columbia could improve by using more sustainable materials. As of now they only use responsible down, but by including more sustainably certified virgin materials and recycled materials like polyester they could reduce their ecological and climate impact. - Columbia could also operate a repair beyond warranty programme as other leading ski wear brands do to ensure the life time use of clothes, and to encourage further use they could also start a pre-owned programme. - Columbia may consider setting Science Based Targets (SBTi) for climate change, which is a set above the current internal climate change targets. Implementing both a repair programme and a pre-owned programme should be next on Columbia's agenda!

Agreed! It would be wise since a lot of their competitors are already doing this.

Columbia could learn from @Houdini_Sportswear when it comes to sustainable materials, they have open source materials that other sportswear companies can use, and a really great goalmaking philosophy!
