ClimateHero was founded in 2018 with the mission to help individuals calculate and reduce their climate impact. So far, over 500,000 people have used ClimateHero's climate calculator and selected climate pledges that reduce global emissions by over 1 million tons of CO2e per year.
Many climate pledges are about thinking more circular when we shop, which we have also formulated several climate-smart tips about.
However, many purchases will continue to consist of newly produced goods, and the purchasing channel that is growing the most is e-commerce. ClimateHero therefore wants to help make e-commerce more climate-smart and friendly. As a first step, in collaboration with the e-commerce platform Shopify, we have developed an app that reminds the customer of the climate impact of the purchase in the shopping basket and gives the opportunity to compensate for it. So far, it is a simplified service that uses a standard calculation to estimate the climate impact of the money flow.
In the long run, we want to be part of developing the industry towards greater transparency of various aspects of sustainability at product level. But to get there we need to get more partners.
