Many libraries in Sweden (not Stockholm, though it seems 🤷‍♀️) are now offering "energi kassar", energy bags that are packed with easy-to-use tools that help you understand and improve your home’s energy efficiency, saving both energy and money while making your home more comfortable.
Inside the bags, you will find an electricity meter to plug in and see how much power your appliances actually use. Perfect for spotting hidden "energy thieves." 🦹 A hygrometer that measures temperature and humidity, helping you maintain a healthy indoor climate. 🌡️ A smoke pen that creates a thin stream of smoke that reveals drafts around windows and doors. 💨 And a thermal camera, which shows surface temperatures in colour to spot where heat is leaking out, like poorly sealed windows or missing insulation. 🤧
Each tool comes with a simple manual, so anyone can use it and then take action when issues appear. The person can contact the municipality for free guidance on what improvements make the most sense for their home.
