Arguing for oil as an energy source of the future

Image of post in post detailed view

During the recent energy conference CERAWeek in Houston, Texas, big oil companies like Chevron were – again – arguing for slowing down the transition to clean energy, and making sure oil and gas remain within the system for the foreseeable future.
Mike Wirth, Chairman of the Board & CEO, Chevron Corporation, said:
”I think the issue of how we best move towards a lower-carbon energy system is getting re-framed. /…/ The discussion is moving to a more balanced state. I hope it is.”
He then moved on to say that Chevron intends to increase oil production.
”We intend to grow energy supplies, both traditional energy and new energy, because demand for both continues to grow.”
Mr. Wirth argued that a quick transition might lead to chaos, without mentioning with a single word the chaos that science has made clear awaits us all if we do not transition fast enough.
During the conference, several other Big Oil CEOs also spoke enthusiastically about the bright future for oil. As Rick Muncrief, chief executive of Devon Energy, put it:
“Our strategy is to stay as oily as we can for as long as we can.”

I agree with the issue addressed by the review about oil has to be left to the ground. I also subscribe to same school of thought for a better future. Nevertheless, ever thought if we consumers totally shun from buying fossil products completely companies such chevron would get such attention? Oil should be left underneath and people should be deliberately shun away from fossil fuel products, that's the only way we will be able to encourage use of clean energy.
