Fifty years after the blockbuster Jaws traumatised millions of people, endurance swimmer, ocean advocate, and We Don't Have Time ambassador Lewis Pugh is diving headfirst into those exact same waters with the mission to rewrite the narrative on sharks.

This month, Lewis Pugh will be attempting to swim the 100-kilometre circumference of Martha's Vineyard, without a wetsuit, in just trunks, goggles, and a cap, through 8°C water. It might sound cold and dangerous, but it’s exactly the kind of challenges United Nations Patron of the Oceans is known for; he has swum into the Antarctic, the Arctic, to COP28, in the Hudson River, and this time he is doing it all for the sharks.

Why sharks? Because every day, around 274,000 of them are killed, mostly due to outdated fears, overfishing, and demand for products like shark fin soup. Pugh says it plainly, "It was a film about sharks attacking humans, and for 50 years, we have been attacking sharks."

For 12 days, he will combine physical endurance with public education, engaging locals and tourists alike about the critical role of sharks in marine ecosystems. Let's send Climate Love 💚 and courage to Lewis for this new adventure, looking forward to following his adventures.
