Yesterday I attended a very interesting seminar about how we can save the Baltic Sea together and how we should deal with the big problems from a scientific angle. The seminar was held by Expedition Baltic Sea, Stockholm University (Östersjöcentrum) and the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH). As with most things, we are familiar with the problems, but also with the solutions - But due to various aspects, politics and money, it is more difficult than it may seem. An idea and a simple first step, sign the Baltic Sea Contract (see below). Anyone can do it and also help spread it in their networks. https://ostersjokontraktet.se/ https://www.su.se/stockholms-universitets-ostersjocentrum/ https://www.kth.se/baltictech

The Swedish pension fund AP7 must take responsibility and invest 5 million Swedes' money in an ethical and sustainable way. I have been informed that part of my pension is invested in the oil company Aramco Oil and it is absolutely the wrong way to invest if we want to end the fossil industry and save humanity. Therefore, a big Climate warning to AP7 - Remodel and do it right. https://www.ap7.se

I want to give UN Stockholm a lot of climate love for hosting a fantastic event linked to Agenda 2030 last Saturday on Lidingö in Stockholm's archipelago. We had the opportunity to listen to many inspiring lectures from different types of organizations and people and after that we were divided into groups linked to the 17 global goals, to create missions to make a big change. I was involved in the goals linked to water and oceans and we have already started four projects. . https://www.agenda2030open.se https://www.ostersjokontraktet.se

BLOODY FUCKING NONSENSE We need to understand that shame for flying, traveling with electric cars, buying used and eating vegetarian is not the solution to our climate change problems. I'm a fan that small steps can make a big difference, but if we believe in the climate crisis, we have to act like it's a crisis, to quote Greta Thunberg. There are no solutions other than we have to make big changes NOW and shift the responsibility from ordinary people to governments, authorities and big business. Several governments take decisions in the wrong direction linked to climate change (the Swedish government is an example of this). If we want to see real changes and solve the climate crisis and save humanity, we (read: those with real power) must make big and important decisions such as - Stop using fossil fuels now. - Be aware of the consequences of "bulemic consumption". - Promote a truly circular economy. Don't let our politicians and big companies fool us, that we are the only solution to solving the climate crisis. It is time to realize - "That it is impossible to build a house with a nail file".

The enviroment square (Miljötorget) at the boat fair (Allt för sjön) was quite a success, but the Baltic Sea Contract https://www.ostersjokontraktet.se couldn’t have done it without all their partners. I want to give a lot of Climate love to all of them, because they were all part of the great work and the success.

I want to give some Friday love to Isabelle McAllister for her insights in Chunks Of Change - I learn new things every time and I stop for a bit and realize how "damn little I know". For a moment, a quote can start a discussion and a lot of thinking (see below).

Donald Trump has done it again, telling the oil industry what they want to hear – “guys drill for more oil”. If we believe in climate change, we need to elect the right politicians and the right business leaders, but do we think we have them out there? There are many "requirements" for ordinary people to make the right climate choices, but is it the fastest way to reach our climate goals? My idea is to change the climate strategy and put pressure on the right people and companies, instead of "hiding behind ordinary people". Sure, I know everyone needs to change their way of life, but we need to hunt down the big culprits to solve the climate crisis.

I have tried to reach representatives of the Green Party for a long time, but without success. The reason for my attempts has been to get a clear answer regarding their concrete measures to reduce our oil dependence and above all what the Green Party is doing to stop oil subsidies both nationally in Sweden, but also globally. The Green Party wants to appear as the political party that cares the most about the climate and creating a sustainable society out of the Swedish parliamentary parties, and then I expect more action and less bullshit. In this case, they don't even want to answer my serious question about what measures are in the near future from their side - Weak! https://www.mp.se/politik/klimatfardplan/

”The sale of pesticides is increasing in Sweden and is now twice as large as in the 90s - figures from the Chemicals Inspectorate show. This despite the fact that the cultivation areas are slowly decreasing in Sweden. In its annual report, the Chemicals Inspectorate states that the sale of pesticides to agriculture is increasing for the third year in a row. - The development is going in the wrong direction, we have been tasked with reducing the risks of pesticides in Swedish agriculture, says Anders Arvidsson at the Swedish Board of Agriculture.” https://www.svt.se/nyheter/inrikes/rekordstor-forsaljning-av-bekampningsmedel-till-lantbruket-hogsta-pa-40-ar-1

I would like to give Climate love to Energicentrum Gotland. Read about their very exciting projects. "The Got Heat project aims to create an overall picture of Gotland's heating sector today and in the future and how it can contribute to sustainability through collaboration with the electricity sector and surrounding industry on Gotland. Both possible synergies and conflicts must be analyzed. Gotland's energy landscape is changing with emerging solar and wind farms and plans for data centers as well as the production of hydrogen and electrofuels. Large amounts of heat can be generated from these. In order to achieve high efficiency, it is necessary to use the heat, but it can involve large costs to transfer electricity to the place where heat is needed today. Localization of new industry needs to take this into account. Got Heat – models Gotland's energy system The project will model Gotland's energy system to see how the heating sector can be developed to contribute to resource efficiency and a viable island through interactions with the electricity system and industry. Special focus will be placed on collaboration between actors from different sectors, such as the heating sector and the industrial sector. Namely, it is not at all certain that collaborations will happen just because the technical conditions exist, additional pieces of the puzzle need to fall into place.Got Heat – models Gotland's energy." https://energicentrum.gotland.se/project/gotheat/

The Stockholm Resilience Centre has done a good job of finding the connection between the climate impact in different sectors and the number of companies linked to the sector with the greatest responsibility. My idea is to start acting on the basis of the knowledge we have and start talking and helping the companies with the greatest responsibility in sectors with a real climate impact to transform. As an example, only 10 companies account for 72 percent of oil extraction. https://doi.org/10.1038/s41559-019-0978-z

I just quote John Kerry - "Fossil fuel subsidies are the definition of insanity". Tomorrow is an important day when the Swedish government meet the Swedish business community and the number one question is - When will the Swedish government take away the fossil fuel subsidies? I also bring some interesting numbers to this review from the Nature Conservation Society. https://www.naturskyddsforeningen.se/artiklar/avskaffa-de-klimatskadliga-subventionerna/ https://www.naturskyddsforeningen.se/
Avskaffa de klimatskadliga subventionerna
Klimatskadliga subventioner gör det billigare att använda fossila bränslen och släppa ut växthusgaser. Varje år går många miljarder till att subventionera klimatskadlig verksamhet.

We have to do everything to get solutions in place, if we want to solve the climate crisis and what could be better than rewarding the people who try to do good things in different fields. Six awards (Actions, Projects, Films, Photography, Art and Fashion) will be presented during COP28., together with the UN and broadcast globally. I hope many companies and organizations see the opportunity to sponsor the award and help the winners take their work into the future, because we need to ACT NOW and there are many good things going on out there, but big companies and organizations need to open their wallets and help the talented people to reach out with their ideas. I want to give my Climate love to Agora, which makes this possible for many people, who would not have had this opportunity without the Agora Awards. https://blog.agoraawards.com/myclimateaction/ https://youtu.be/RbaD2QsnBYk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6e2MErOz1e4&t=73s

I am very happy to have the Church of Sweden in Örebro as a partner on the We Don't Have Time platform. We have been talking to the brain about climate change and the solution to the problems for decades with less than good results. I believe it is time to change the way we deal with the problems linked to climate change and bring "spiritual aspects" into how we can together be the solution. We have to believe in something and the church is actually a good place to visit even if you are not a christian and a believer. https://www.svenskakyrkan.se/orebro

I want to give love to Assaad Razzouk, because he addresses the big problem with all the bullshit because of the climate crisis discussion in his book, "Saving The Planet Without The Bullshit". We need to define the problem and the people and companies behind the problem - We can't make ordinary people feel guilty for not doing enough and let the big 'bad guys' go free. We need to work together and tackle the problem as it is - We know the big polluters (10 countries and 100 companies) and we need to help them transform or we could be talking crap for another 50 years. https://www.ft.com/content/14882cbd-c355-4298-80eb-4d586bc42a35 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLiXmteCvUI&t=2s

Everyone knows that you can't solve a problem by avoiding it - You have to deal with it and the closer you are to the problem, the easier it is to solve. We are aware of what we have to do and that is to stop depending on fossil fuels and then we have to talk to the producers and suppliers in the fossil industry and show them how to change. If you are interested in stopping the war in Ukraine - Who do you need to talk to? My climate idea is to invite the fossil industry to an open conversation about how we can transform in the absolute fastest and best way for everyone involved. https://reports.shell.com/sustainability-report/2022/

Last week was a great week, because many exciting solutions to the climate crisis were presented during four days of Stockholm Climate Week. We saw lots of brilliant speakers, companies and organizations on stage. But there was one thing that hit me particularly hard and that was one person talking about how there was only a 9 percent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions during the Covid pandemic and then almost everything came to a standstill. Everyone is talking about electricity as the solution to climate change - I'm not sure. I think we need to allocate resources and change the existing system we operate in? Only the future has an answer to that question, but by then it may be too late.

I give my love to We Don't Have Time, because of their fantastic broadcasts from Stockholm Climate Week, but it is important to understand that we need to act now and on a much wider front. I did my military service as a paramedic and then we had to learn the following approach when we arrived at an accident site - And now the question is why we don't look at the climate crisis in the same way? We act more on the principle of "CBAL" than "LABC", which is described below. People seriously debate the importance of brushing your teeth with a bamboo toothbrush - We can discuss this when we solve "LAB". "What is the first thing to do when you arrive at an accident scene? The first thing you should do at an accident scene is to survey it so that you can then prioritize what needs to be done first, something that can of course vary depending on the situation. Then you must, in the order that is appropriate: Warn other road users, sound the alarm and perform first aid LABC. LABC is both an abbreviation that stands for Life-threatening condition, Breathing, Bleeding, Circulatory failure and a memory rule that tells you in what order you should prioritize in the event of an accident. Life threatening position has the highest priority, Breathing the second highest priority and so on."

I suppose Arbikie makes great alcohol, but I haven't had the privilege of tasting their products yet. One thing I am absolutely sure of is that Arbikie is really at the forefront of making their production as sustainable as possible. Read about Arbikie's next step in this journey in the press release (see below). The world’s first green hydrogen-powered distillery at Arbikie Arbikie Highland Estate has completed the latest stage of their plan to be the world’s first green hydrogen-powered distillery with the installation of a new 1MW wind turbine to provide renewable energy. The installation of the new wind turbine means Arbikie is well on track to be one of the world’s most sustainable distilleries, having already distilled Nàdar (the world’s first climate-positive gin and vodka) in partnership with the James Hutton Institute and Abertay University and won the ‘Excellence in Sustainability’ award at the Scottish Whisky Awards Arbikie is now working in collaboration with Locogen and Logan Energy to power their distillery with green hydrogen. It will use renewable electricity from the wind turbine to split water in an electrolyser to create green hydrogen. This will be used in their hydrogen-compatible boiler to power the Arbikie Distillery with the switch having a significant impact on the distilleries carbon footprint. Iain Stirling, Director of Arbikie Highland Estate commented: “We are delighted to pioneer the use of green hydrogen in the distilling industry. As the latest custodians of our family farms and distillery it’s very important to our family to be as sustainable as possible.” Arbikie are working with customers, like Hilton and Marriott across the globe to create sustainable cocktails with their Nadars. Stirling added “Our Nàdar Gin and Vodka are in demand across the world as discerning consumers switch to planet-friendly spirits and our customers, including some of the world’s best bars, and hotels are using our Nadars to create sustainable cocktail menus.” Notes to Editors: Arbikie Highland Estate is the world’s first single estate distillery producing Vodka, Gin and Whisky using ingredients grown on its 2000-acre farm on the east coast of Scotland. It is in the Highland region for making Scotch Whisky and is a ‘Field-to-Bottle’ pioneer growing, harvesting and distilling from scratch, maturing and bottling all on the one location, giving their world award-winning family of spirits unique provenance. It distils the revolutionary, Nadar Gin and Vodka that removes 1.54KG CO2e per bottle and this story is told in this award-winning film, ‘Going against the Grain’ https://youtu.be/_NOt9WaklMI Arbikie works with many of the world’s best bars, hotels, restaurants and resorts including Noma, Atlantis-The Royal, Accor, Hilton, Marriot, Jean Georges, Atlas and Whole Foods. It recently opened the Arbikie Distillery Experience next to the Distillery at Lunan Bay on Scotland’s sunny east coast. We know we need to make big changes to reach the Paris Agreement, but as an old boss told me - "We need to make the business 100 percent more efficient". I replied that it will be really difficult and then he said - "We are 100 employees and if we all become 1 percent more efficient, we will reach the goal of becoming 100 percent more efficient". What does the above have to do with my Climate love to Zero Waste Movement? It's little as my old boss said - Many small steps will make a big difference.
