When you eat meat - eat meet that is good for the planet! To reduce carbon emissions, food is one very important area to address . More vegetables, shorter transport, less food waste are some important actions. Meat consumption needs to decrease, as it is carbon intensive. However, people will eat meat – and doing so, we need to cut down on the amount we eat and choose good meat. By that I mean meat from grazing cattle, contributing to biodiversity, and making farming a carbon sink. Meat that is certified and traceable. One company making this kind of meat accessible in Stockholm is ERTH. The name stands for E- environment, R- responsible, T-taste , and H – happiness. They have meat with different climate and environmental certificates from local producers as well as with offsets for transportation. When you do buy meat, make sure it is good in respect to environment, biodiversity, resilience, and climate. And to get emissions down, meat consumption at large needs to decrease. Eat less and eat better!

Earlier this week, Solvatten opened an exhibit featuring its history and track record so far. To get clean water, some people need to collect water from an unsafe source, sometimes far away, and boil it over open fire to get it clean. This takes time (often from women and girls) and uses fuel. Fuel which costs money and leads to deforestation, carbon emissions, as well as smoke affecting people living in the homes where this is done. The solution is the fantastic invention Solvatten by Petra Wadström. It looks like a suitcase and is super simple to use. Fill it with 40 liters of water, put it in the sun a few hours, and when the red indicator turns green it is safe to use - and hot. So what has been the effect? - 100.000 families using Solvatten - 4,7 million cubic meters of water cleaned - 30.000 hectares of forest saved - 76 million USD saved in health expenses - 52 million increased days of school attendance, often for girls Each Solvatten eliminates 1 ton of carbon emissions in a year, lasts for 7 years, making it avoid 7 tons och CO2. It costs approximatealy 130 USD. You can donate to this organization to have them spread this fantastic solution. Maybe a good Christmas present? https://solvatten.org/

This suggestion for Oxford University Press I found in Solitaire Townsend's LinkedIN, and I find it urgent to get an understanding of greensplaining spread so that everybody can see what it is and when it is happening. Dear Oxford University Press - after decades of fighting for better sustainability communications (and a crappy week in UK green politics) - I have a nomination for your dictionary: 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐧 [green-spleyn] verb, 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐧-𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐧-𝐞𝐝, 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐧-𝐞𝐫 to bombard people with climate science rather than showing and enabling action Source: https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7092783056721166336?updateEntityUrn=urn%3Ali%3Afs_feedUpdate%3A%28V2%2Curn%3Ali%3Aactivity%3A7092783056721166336%29

Congratulations to receiving a green hushing prize for not communicating the fantastic job you have done, and continue to do, in decarbonizing public transport in the western region of Sweden. In Sweden, 95% of busses run on electricity or bio-fuels already today. For trains, trams and subway the number is even higher. However, people in Sweden are not aware of this. Only 26% know - and 36% strongly believe that it still runs on fossil fuels! So Västtrafik - communicate what you do in new innovative ways, for example here on WeDontHaveTime.org In the image: CO2 emissions per km for Electric bus - Electric car - Fossil car https://www.vasttrafik.se/info/statistik/

Former Swedish diplomat, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Director General for IAEA Hans Blix was interviewed on Swedish morning-TV today in connection to his 95th birthday. On the question what worries him the most, the answer was climate change and the climate crisis. It is already visible in the world around us. Higher bathing temperatures migh feel nice - but where did the pike and herring go? And the Baltic is in bad shape due to increase in temperature. We leave an enormous task to next generations. https://www.tv4play.se/program/nyhetsmorgon/20620744

This morning, as I am in Copenhagen, I was watching the Danish news and I saw this: “Carlsberg goes back to using plastic”. Apparently, Carlsberg has been involved in research and test on moving away from plastic packaging which would eliminate 150 ton of plastics per year in Denmark alone. However, the users have not caught on - so Carlsberg will now go back to using plastic. This can not be in line with ambitious climate targets? The end product is beer and how it is distributed, in a future proof and climate friendly way, can not be up to the end consumers to decide. So Carlsberg - what can you do to convince your customers that this is the way to go? And how much CO2 emissions would you add by going back to plastic? This does not sound like a future move.

Yesterday, the Swedish Climate Policy Council, Klimatpolitiska rådet, issued its yearly report evaluating the Swedish government’s climate action in regards to goals and guidelines set by the parliament. In 2045, Sweden has the goal to be carbon neutral, and a number of short term goals for 2030 will take us there. However, the right wing government that took office during fall 2022 has enforced politics that will increase GHG emissions, and will not reach the set targets for 2030. Thank you Climate Policy Council members and chair Cecilia Hermansson for a very clear and guiding report - telling it as it is as well as suggesting actions to get back on track. Thanks for being a loud truth teller! Earlier this week in his annual report on priorities that Antonio Guterres delivered to the United Nations he was very clear: “We must end the merciless, relentless, senseless war on nature.” We need disruption to end the destruction. No more baby steps. No more excuses. No more greenwashing. No more bottomless greed of the fossil fuel industry and its enablers. And he clearly called out the fossil fuel industry: Your core product is our core problem. Today, on International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste (IDAFLW) COOP Sweden “Butiker och Stormarknader” started rolling out a new concept in the stores where customers easily can save food, to a reduced price, that needs to be consumed right away. With a green reduced prize tag, customers can find a range of products from milk and meat to fruit and vegetables in a special area in the store. Together, customers and the store can reduce food waste. Much needed as 30-40% of what is produced is wasted. Communication is key to make this fun, worthwhile and sharing the impact. The first store that has tested this since June has saved 2 tonnes of fruit and vegetables. Great initiative COOP!

On this Day of International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste (IDAFLW), Sopköket shared their philosophy on how to use food that can not be sold any longer, for some reason, remaking it into new delicious dishes. New is that dishes will be made, frozen, and sold in the same store that the “food waste” came from. Sopköket is also sharing by giving meals away to vulnerable. Way to go!

Earlier this week, I attended an insightful dialogue between 5 authors of books connected to the climate crisis. The publishing house Volante arranges several dialogues on important topics prior to the Swedish upcoming election on September 11. This dialogue focused on climate politics and the views in three new books, in Swedish. 1. “Naturlagen” – Nature law – by Pella Thiel and Henrik Hallgren with the perspective to give nature legal rights, connected to the End Ecocide movement. 2. “Momentum” by Per Schlingmann and Kjell A Nordström focusing on how our society is affected by the three large crisis Covid-19, the war in Ukraine and the climate crisis. With a business perspective. 3. “Ocean känslan om behovet av en ny berättelse” – Ocean Awe the need for a new story – by former vice Prime Minister and Green Party Leader Isabella Lövin. Despite different perspectives, all authors and books focus on solutions and were open to listen and participate in interesting dialogue. However, the political debate tends to be reduced to conflict, and for or against nuclear power. We need to half emissions by 2030 to reach the Paris agreement – and more nuclear power can not fix that. Politics need to move into solutions here and now – and to listen more. Let’s listen to each other, let’s speak from our heart and show that we care. Then answers and action will follow. Thanks Volante for publishing important books and arranging these open talks. https://volante.se/

At Adidas innovation is key to reaching a more sustainable product range. Systematic work has been done to understand and measure the carbon footprint and to set targets, and now innovation is key to finding sustainable solutions. One new product in line with this is Adizero x Allbirds 2.94 CO2e, Adidas’ most climate-friendly performance running shoe. It emits 63% less CO2e than a comparable running shoe. I hope this work, as well as clear customer communication, will reach more Adidas product with running speed. https://www.gameplan-a.com/2022/07/how-adidas-is-striving-to-become-a-climate-neutral-company/?section=main

Transport is Australia’s third largest source of greenhouse gas emissions and the country’s per capita transport emissions are 45% higher than the OECD average. A recent study by the Electric Vehicle Council of Australia found that 54% of Australians were considering an electric vehicle for their next car purcnd yet, despite our pledges to tackle climate change and our country’s transport emissions, Australia’s adoption of zero-emission vehicles is miles behind the rest of the world. Something needs to change. One company - Vyro - is helping to drive that change. At Vyro, the mission is to put electric vehicles in reach of every Australian. In early 2022, they launched the country’s first virtual dealership, which makes buying an electric vehicle (EV) easy, seamless and more affordable. With a direct-to-consumer model, they are addressing the three key challenges to the adoption of electric cars: education, supply of vehicles and the upfront cost. https://www.vyro.com.au/

The use of bio-plastics as well as the re-use of plastic from our oceans are impressive The compostable range is made from bio-plastics, they're partly made from plants and they're designed to break down ie. not last FOREVER. As a more natural product, they are more prone to fluctuations in quality and consistency. They are also a relatively new material and the technology and know-how around their production is constantly evolving.
