UPDATE 2022: in summer 2021 I had already received most of the intrument player's performance videos, so I could create an audio mix of the orchestra performance, substituting the electronic simulation of the orchestra. The next step would have been to find and invite singers from all over the world to take part. Unfortunately the live performance in Munich had to be postponed three times and the last chance was a concert in November 2021. So I had to put all time and energy into this project first. Therefor I had to to pause the global virtual oratorio project in order to organize the live performance in Munich. Now I did a RESTART of the global virtual oratorio performance "Our World is on Fire" and invite SINGERS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD TO TAKE PART! Go to the oratorio website: https://our-world-is-on-fire.org download the instructions PDF including the vocal score and all links needed! Sing along with the demo, shoot a video of your singing and upload it. I will mount all videos into a great multiscreen video and publish it accessable for everyone. Every participant will be mentioned by name in the credits. In the orchestra there are great professional players from the Philippines, Norway, Sweden, Italy, Denmark, Germany, Poland, Switzerland, Liechtensstein, the USA, Columbia, Mexico, Japan, Germany and Brazil. There is no deadline set by now, but I want to create the final video including the videos and audios of all participants this summer! The live premiere In November 2021 in Munich was a great success. The final applause of the oratorio lasted more than 7 minutes! Everyone was deeply touched and moved by this performance. I recorded the permiere on video including an animation that war created to the music. My dream is, to create a global statement including the performance videos of many singers from all over the world! You can reach me by email: contact@rainerbartesch.de

GLAOBAL VIRTUAL ORATORIO PROJECT has started! IMPORTANT UPDATE: the global virtual performance of "Our World is on Fire" has started and singers from all over the world are invited to take part! The DEADLINE (still flexible) is END OF JUNE , but I will accept all performer's videos that I receive before the video editing is accomplished. Since this will take hundreds of hours of editing and mixing, the final deadline will probably be around the end of August 2021. Here you can download the multilingual instructions PDF including all information, all links and the vocal score. https://our-world-is-on-fire.org/download_instructions_pdf.html Up to now there are already musicians and singers from more than 40 countries involved in this virtual project! Singers and musicians from great international orchestras from Asia, Africa, South and North America and Europe. After the crowdfunding for a video production to the music was successful, two young filmmakers based in Munich created a great visual artwork, that supports the musical message in an artistic way - far beyond any cheap propaganda style images .... Here you can already watch the video, that will be screened during the live premiere on 20 November 2021 in Munich: https://vimeo.com/512954005 It already has had its digital premiere last spring in Madison, Wisconsin, U.S. There was a virtual exhibition about art and climate change. I recommend to download and read the libretto first, in order to understand the words and the structure of this 24 minute composition. I produced an audio demo with six singers from Africa, America and Europe. Later I will substitute the orchestra samples with real musicians from the virtual oratorio performance. Here the download link of the libretto: http://rainerbartesch.de/oratorio.html And here the link to the oratorio website: https://our-world-is-on-fire.org PLEASE HELP SPREADING THE WORD! If you are a singer: join the project and sing along to a great demo!

yesterday my oratorio "Our World is on Fire" had its digital premiere as a video production - at very short notice - in Madison, U.S. The video, which is actually designed to be screened along with the live performance of the oratorio, also works very well in conjunction with the audio demo, in which I combined real voices with an orchestra simulation. There will be a few more adjustments to the picture, but no more serious changes. Here you can view and listen to the oratorio: https://vimeo.com/512954005 I soon will start a global virtual performance too, where everyone can take part and sing along with one of the great choir voices. More information you find here: https://our-world-is-on-fire.org Kind regards, Rainer Bartesch

Liebe Berliner, ihr könnt sicher deutsch, ich schreibe hier aber auf English, damit es alle lesen können ... Hi, here's Rainer Bartesch, german composer and environmental activist. I have written a 24-minute oratorio entitled "Our World Is On Fire" in order to create more awareness for climate change and communicate it in a more emotional than intellectual way. The premiere will be on June 12th in Munich, but in the meantime I will create a global virtual performance where everyone and anyone can participate! Have a look at the website: https://our-world-is-on-fire.org Maybe your students and teachers are interested in taking part in the virtual performance or even creating a live performance in Berlin? Kind regards, Rainer www.rainerbartesch.de contact@rainerbartesch.de

Due to the restictions we see here in Germany right now, we had to postpone the live concert to 20 November 2021! But there are some good news too: the German Musikfonds is funding the (live-) broadcast of the premiere into cinemas! So everyone is welcome to help getting in touch with local cinemas that might be interested in screening the premiere video! And I do a virtual global performance of the oratorio right now! Everyone can participate! The deadline is now END OF JUNE though in the multilingual instruction PDF you will still find "end of April" as the deadline ... You can download the PDF here: https://our-world-is-on-fire.org/download_instructions_pdf.html please help spreading the word (and the instruction PDF) and take part in the global virtual oratorio! Right now there are already people from more than 40 countries involved! And last but not least, the German newspaper SÜDDEUTSCHE ZEITUNG alredy published 3(!) big articles about the oratorio project and me and I got nominated for an cultural award called Tassilo Kulturpreis für the oratorio project!

Is our financial system the reason for global warming and other environmental desasters? I recently watched the new documentary "oeconomia" by Carmen Losmann and was surprised, that our financial system works in a quite different way to what most (to be hones - nearly all) people think it is for granted. There is nothing like a gold standard as equivalent to the paper money that exists. Money get's created by banks that are making loans. The moment they create a new loan, the value of the bank increases, because then the money increases its business balance sheet. Vice versa the balance decreases, the moment the money get's payed back. So the banks have to find companies or people that need loans. Increasing the volume of loans is only possible in growing markets. So the banks - like the corporations and funds - invest only in growing or expanding markets. Here they can make the biggest profits, needed to satify the greedy owners .... The moment the economic growth shrinks, the whole system is in danger. And the people in charge will try to do everything to create growth again or to shift the investment to places of growth. Otherwise the richest people won't be able to collect even more money. In order to keep the system running as long as possible, no investment will be done in areas that don't create the biggest possible profits. That's the reason, why non of them is interested in investments in ecological projects. If there is a project that want's to save the rain forest in Brazil, this project stands moneywise in competition with the groups of people, that take as much profit out of the rain forest as they can by cutting and selling the trees, by cattle farming and gen soy farming. So wher do you thin will the big corporations invest? Only in the second group. Environmental projects cannot compete profitwise with environmental exploitation. This is a basic truth. It is a logical consequence of our financial system Now the only question is: will our ecosystem earth collapse first or our (insame) financial system? In my opinion we urgently need a new financial system too in order to save our planet. My suggestion: watch the documentary "oekonomia" and make up your mind on what's to be done .... If you look back at the lockdown, that happed in many countries and you see how many people lost their jobs, how many companies got bankrupt, then you may realize how many new bank loans were created at the same time by this scenario. So in my eyes it's possible, that there is a connection between our financial system (that already was very close to a complete breakdown right before "corona") and the lockdown, that created many new loans for the banks. Since the rich corporations want to make sure, they get their biggest possible share, they tell the ones that get the loans, what they have to do. And there is no difference between private people, companies or governments. They all have to stick to what the big corporations demand. So these big corporations are the ones, that don't want to have democracy and they have so much money and power, that they can tell the governments, that need money, what to do and what not. Saving the climate is definitely a profit killer for them .....

Truly sad. This has to stop

Any effort/action that decreases the mindless consumption or hits consumerism is discouraged and is portrayed as a threat to economy and financial growth. People in power are sold out to this concept. Politicians fear that a decrease in financial growth will make them unpopular so they cannot stop the corporations that claims to create jobs even at cost of natural resources, species extinction or massive environmental destruction... Only a handful of general public and politicians understand that first - WE NEED TO STOP FOSSIL FUEL & DIRTY ENERGY and we don't have time...

Despite the hard times we are going through worldwide, with many people suffering economically and mentaly under hard restrictions due to corona panic , my crowdfunding was (finally) successful. Two young Munich based filmmakers are already working on the video to the oratorio music. I try now to get some additional funding by the German Musikfonds to enable a live broadcast of the whole concert on November 14th to a number of cinemas in Munich and around Munich, so we can reach a much bigger audience. Maybe we will provide even a livestream in the internet for cheaper tickets .... Stay tuned by reading my posts here, or on my website https://our-world-is-on-fire.org or my facebook account: https://www.facebook.com/rainer.bartesch.5 If you know a choir, help spreading the news about the oratorio! The more people are performing the oratorio, the more people will get the message and will hopefully fighting actively global warming! Here a photo of the Himmelfahrtskirche in Munich, where the concert will be performed.

Rainer Bartesch I'm new to this platform and this is my first post here ... I find it hard to understand, that so many people know about climate change and so few are taking actions in order to stop or limit it. In my opinion human behaviour follows a quite natural ancient pattern. In case of global warming / climate change it's not easy to gain and keep an overview over the facts, successfully separating reliable facts from fake news. In situations where you cannot be really sure how things really are and how they will likely turn out in future, you have to make decisions without knowing all details. In situations like these many people prefer to refrain from making any decisions and instead they let others decide and just stick to patterns they are used to. They try to keep their habits in order to still feel familiar with an insecure situation. They are acting emotional, not rational. In most societies people feeling unsecure tend to deny their own responsibility for the situation and pass the decisions to their leaders. And the leaders often try to preserve their own status quo whatever in the first place, because uncomfortable changes for the public could endanger their position as leader. Well I think there is a chance to reach even these people, that refuse to realize how dramatic the situation really is. It can be achieved much better by an emotional approach, an approach of emotional learning. And this learning can be initiated and guided by the means of music and storytelling. I'm a composer and have therefore written a 24 minute oratorio called "Our World is on Fire", that is breathing the spirit of the fridays-for-future movement. I try to make the message reach the audience with means of role plays, of theater. I already produced a demo of it and uploaded it, so you can listen to it on the website: www.our-world-is-on-fire.org In this piece there are two opposing groups of people, the "nature people" and the "money people". The nature people are living in balance with nature and are grateful about what they can harvest. The money people are acting selfish and more and more ruthless, causing severe changes in nature, that affect the nature people dramatically. On the climax of the piece the forests start burning and everything gets out of control. Here beginns a wake up call, similar to Greta's speech in Davos "Our house is on fire", sung by the solo tenor. Since the nature people are the true victims in this story, the sympathy of the audience will be automatically going with them. Being emotionally involved, sharing their suffering, will lead by many people in the audience to a real emotional resonance and that offers the chance, that they perceive the side effects of global warming as something severe, something that can affect everyone, even themselves. I think bringing the themes of the fridays-for-future movement into the concert halls can help to reach new groups of people and create a strong emotional input for them. But there is another side effect to mention: the oratorio gives the fridays-for-future movement a new and strong musical voice too and allows the performers to send their message in a different, but efficient way to the audience. My hope is, that this piece will be performed worldwide and will help to change the people's minds about the actions, that have to be taken quickly in order to prevent an ecological desaster affecting all of us, either direcly or via side effects. The more poeple get involved in that kind of musical and emotional communicating, the faster will come the urgently needed results .... www.our-world-is-on-fire.org here a screenshot of the website:
