In autumn 2022, the NRW state government will be faced with a decision: Can the coal company RWE raze the Rhineland village of Lützerath to the ground for the expansion of a coal mine, or are we serious about climate protection? Sign now: https://koelle4future.de/blog/2022/06/20/protect-the-climate-save-luetzerath/ With this declaration, we join forces with X-thousands of people to preserve Lützerath and protect the climate. If the state government in NRW dares to destroy Lützerath for coal mining, we will not accept it. The coal under Lützerath must remain in the ground. If the state government wants to clear and demolish Lützerath, I will be there to stand in the way of the destruction.

German government and coal industry betray our future – while the world is borning and starving to death fiering coal is still Germanys priority. Now it is official: RWE, Germans largest lignite coal mining company, commissioned and paid for the authoritative expert reports for the Coal Ascent Act. German courts rule in favour of RWE on the basis of the article it submitted itself. Our complaint to the EU and the NRW state parliament will now have to be reassessed. Will the North Rhine-Westphalian town of Lützerath now become a UNESCO World Heritage Site? The coveted award for the village threatened with complete demolition - the first steps have already been taken. An application for inclusion in the exclusive UNESCO World Heritage List has now been submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Municipal Affairs, Building and Equal State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Rhineland State Office for the Preservation of Monuments. Both authorities have been entrusted by UNESCO with the initial evaluation. More? The spectacular project was initiated by Bastian Brinkmann, co-initiator of the association Parents for Future Bielefeld, which shows solidarity with the Fridays for Future movement. "For me, it is very much about the farm of the farmer Eckardt Heukamp, his committed fight against RWE and the threatening expropriation of his property. This has a strong symbolic character: the Garzweiler opencast mine is anachronistic and prevents us from achieving our climate goals. Lützerath thus stands for a historically proven form of energy production. It is both an industrial heritage site and a memorial". Eckardt Heukamp and activists* from the movements in and around Lützerath are also enthusiastic about this initiative. Heukamp: "We are eager to see the next steps towards a further protective wall in favour of keeping the climate, nature and people healthy. Of course, a positive decision from the ministry before Christmas would do us all a world of good, and subsequently also from from UNESCO. We have been fighting here for months and every appreciation, help, protective measure from outside gives us new courage, motivation and strength." Did you know that Germany is reneging on the Paris climate agreement? Do you want the agreement to be respected? Support and expand this petition NOW - with step by step instructions: https://koelle4future.de/blog/2021/08/30/should-germany-comply-with-the-paris-climate-agreement/ Background With the support of Armin Laschet's state government, RWE still wants to burn 780 million tonnes of lignite from the Hambach and Garzweiler II opencast mines. This corresponds to 780 million tonnes of CO2. Since essential basic assumptions, both legal and factual, for lignite planning in NRW have changed, Article 30 of the NRW State Planning Act must be applied. The 2021 Guidelines Decision must be revised and revised downwards Lignite production volumes to be revised and adjusted downwards to a maximum extraction of 100 million tonnes of lignite for the two opencast mines Hambach and Garzweiler as of 01.01.2020. Es ist ein sofortiges Rodungs- und Abrissmoratorium im Vorfeld des TAn immediate moratorium on clearing and demolition in the run-up to the Garzweiler Garzweiler open-cast mine, especially around the village of Lützerath. In June 2021, the DIW comes to the following conclusion in the study “No degree further – Adjustment of opencast mining planning in the Rhenish lignite mining area to comply with the 1.5 degree limit”. With appropriate early curtailment of production, a coal exit path in the Hambach and Garzweiler opencast mining complex still requires a maximum of 200 million tonnes by 2028. This coal exit path in line with the 1.5° budget also ensures the preservation of the Garzweiler villages. The 200 million tonnes of lignite were calculated with a limitation of global warming to a maximum of 1.5°C with a compliance probability of 50 %. Parents for Future Cologne also calculates with a limitation to a maximum of 1.5°C. A higher probability of occurrence of 83% is taken as a basis. This consideration follows directly from guiding principle 2 b of the for Future ruling 1 BvR 2656/18 (Bundesverfassungsgericht = Federal Constitutional Court, Highest court in Germany). Here, the special duty of care of the state and the legislator for future generations is defined: „If there is scientific uncertainty about environmentally relevant causal relationships, the special duty of care imposed on the legislature by Article 20a of the Basic Law, also for the benefit of future generations, includes taking into account already reliable indications of the possibility of serious or irreversible impairments.“ The remaining budgets are derived from the 6th Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change published in August 2021.

Great effort! 💪💪
https://augustriseup.de/offener-brief/ Please sign and share this open letter to civil society Politicians must act, now! With this open letter we are NOT addressing Germany's leading political representatives. We are addressing societies, citizens, our fellow human beings and call on them to join the protests of AugustRiseUp. With this open letter, people from public life, academia and all other parts of society declare their support for the August RiseUp starting on 16 August in Berlin. To the society, to the citizens, We, the undersigned, call for participation in the August RiseUp protests. Political decision-makers must take immediate and targeted action against the deepening ecological crisis. Over 50 °C in North America. 40 °C inside the Arctic Circle. A tornado in the Czech Republic that flings cars through the air like feathers. The Global North has long been in the grip of climate heating. In mid-July this year, western Germany was hit by an unprecedented flood disaster. This extreme weather event, which claimed around 180 lives, once again brought the climate crisis very close to home. The links between the increasing severity and frequency of extreme weather events, caused by man-made climate heating, are scientifically undisputed. Furthermore, the federal government has recently drafted a water distribution plan. This is a clear indication that we will have to expect a shortage of drinking water in German regions in the future. Germany's forests are still affected by mass mortality, and the climate emergency for the forest is still in effect. Germany is also still firmly in the grip of the corona pandemic, the emergence of which, according to the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, is very likely linked to the warming of the climate. The probability of further pandemics breaking out is very high and the damage to society and the economy is immeasurable. This is shown to us by the consequences and effects of the corona pandemic, which we have just experienced and which are still far from over. Every tenth of a degree of warming leads to further irreversible consequences. Recently, a draft report of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change warned again of these consequences. If the climate warms by 1.5°C compared to the pre-industrial age, up to 350 million people will be affected by a lack of drinking water. If the climate rises to 2°C, up to half a billion people will suffer from extreme heat by 2050. Many millions will suffer hunger, lose their homes and livelihoods, many people will die, many people are already dying every day. Extreme weather events with incalculable damage, as now in Germany, will also become more frequent and lead to further suffering and deaths. Too many politicians have still not understood the seriousness of the situation. The countries of the world have committed themselves in the Paris Climate Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees with appropriate climate protection measures. But they are not acting accordingly. Quite the opposite. As things stand, we are heading for a warming of at least 3 degrees. The 1.5 degree target could only be achieved with the greatest efforts, for example in Germany with net zero CO2 emissions by 2025, with a probability of 66 percent. But even this value means dramatic changes for the climate, biodiversity and human health. At 3 degrees warming, we are threatened with famine, drinking water shortages, pandemics and distribution wars that could lead to the collapse of our democracies. We are in the midst of the sixth global mass extinction - about 150 species become extinct every day. In Germany this year, we have already used up our share of the natural resources that the earth can renew within a year on 5 May this year. The Federal Constitutional Court (BVerG) ruled this spring: The lack of action against the consequences of climate heating and ecosystem destruction is a violation of Article 20a of our Basic Law. There it says: "The state shall protect the natural foundations of life and animals, also in responsibility for future generations, within the framework of the constitutional order by legislation and in accordance with the law and justice by executive power and the administration of justice." The Federal Constitutional Court has thus once again emphasised that the government is obliged to protect the foundations of life and the freedom not only of those living now but also of future generations. The highest representatives of our country are guilty of ignoring this precautionary principle in their policies. Instead of recognising that limitless economic growth is not possible on a planet with finite resources, they continue to subsidise climate-damaging industries instead of sustainable alternatives and plan trade agreements like the one with the Mercosur countries that would contribute to the criminal destruction of the Amazon in Brazil. Since they are not fulfilling their responsibility to protect us citizens from harm and to secure the future for future generations, it is the moral duty of the citizens of this country to respond to their inaction and blatant dereliction of duty. We recognise the long tradition of civil society rebellion against the inaction of political representatives and consider this a necessary means of drawing attention to the threat to our livelihoods, especially those who are already affected by disadvantage and discrimination in this society. Therefore, we declare our support for those involved in the peaceful protests during the "August RiseUp", which will start on 16 August 2021 in Berlin. Important note: Sources will be added by 02.08.21. We would like to ask you to sign this open letter and thus give more weight and visibility to the cause. Every vote counts!

The pilgrimage from Gorleben to Garzweiler (4 July - 1 August 2021) was attacked today by the Hamm police and declared illegal. We send greetings of solidarity to the Way of the Cross for Creation from Cologne and much strength for the journey ahead! Get well soon to the people injured by the operation. I am not surprised at all, since he forced passing the law that criminalizes mostly every demonstration. His closest advisor is a member of the ultra catholic Opus Dei. What surprises me is the fact that Germans over 60 would still vote for CDU and Mr Laschet at the upcoming elections. Mr Laschet as chancellor would be a disaster for the environment in Germany and Europe and a disaster the Germany’s international reputation .
After the biggest man-made disaster in Europe this century, Armin Laschet still refuses to take immediate climate protection measures. You are a candidate for chancellor and prime minister. Instead of reacting appropriately, you ridicule the victims while our Federal President delivers a funeral oration. The climate catastrophe is no joke. It kills people. Right now is the time to turn the tide. Act now! more see e.g.: “Catastrophe Laschet,” heckled Thomas Stegh, a climate activist with the group Parents for Future Germany. “I think it’s okay to show support to the area, but in the end it’s some kind of a PR stunt, as always,” he said. “He’s always taking a lot about future climate targets,” he said of Laschet, a possible successor to Merkel. “But it’s not enough. It’s all talk, little action.” https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/europe/germany-floods-dead-missing/2021/07/17/a2233b6c-e673-11eb-88c5-4fd6382c47cb_story.html While visiting the devastated town of Erftstadt, where an eroded gravel quarry had swallowed cars, bits of road and entire buildings, Laschet was on Saturday caught sharing jokes with bystanders while the German president, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, solemnly addressed the cameras. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/jul/18/germany-floods-armin-laschet-cdu-apologises-for-joking

Warming stripes? Please explain more.
•

Warming stripes (sometimes referred to as climate stripes, climate timelines or stripe graphics) are data visualization graphics that use a series of coloured stripes chronologically ordered to visually portray long-term temperature trends. Warming stripes reflect a "minimalist" style, conceived to use colour alone to avoid technical distractions and intuitively convey global warming trends to non-scientists. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warming_stripes Here, these stripes have been translated into a song for a chello.

INSM, market-liberal lobby organisation, which is financed by business associations of the metal and electrical industry, uses typical deceptive methods of climate change trivialisers. These are typical, anti-science talking points that cover up the facts around the climate crisis and build false dichotomies. Incentives for innovation and alternatives, which the Greens also want to offer, are concealed. Also that plans of all democratic parties amount to something similar. It is pure deception and misdirection. Furthermore, it is problematic that many broad-reaching, actually serious media get paid to place these ads on a massive scale. For all pupils. Nationwide. On one or more days from 20 to 24 September 2021. The Climate Action Week offers all pupils in a school the opportunity to understand the significance of the climate crisis in an age-appropriate way. Teachers can easily incorporate a wide range of multimedia activities into their lessons without any additional effort. As a class - or with the whole school. On one day - or on several. In presence - or online. All materials are freely accessible, interactive, participative, scientifically and pedagogically tested. Creating common ground: A short film explains in an easy-to-understand way why the climate crisis is a crisis, even if here in Germany we are not yet feeling the consequences on a massive scale everywhere. Deepen individually: Students can deepen their understanding of the climate crisis individually on an interactive website that is differentiated according to age and learning type. Deepen subject-specific knowledge: Here you can access further teaching materials provided by our cooperation partners. Action: Learning type differentiated impulses convey ideas and support us to get into action. Language: at the moment German Contact: info@SchoolsForFuture.net

That's great! We Don't Have Time can be a great tool to be used with children if you have some activities in English. :)

@parents_for_future_koeln ja, in RLP
The German government is now selling a 65% cut of emissions as progress. In reality, it has been forced to take this measure by the highest German court and the EU. Furthermore, it does not help to stay below 1.5°C. We need regulatory action now to transform our economy in a sustainable way. https://theenergymix.com/2021/05/07/germany-pledges-65-emissions-cut-by-2030-net-zero-by-2045/ Img by bernswaelz via: https://pixabay.com/de/photos/angela-merkel-ttip-karikatur-demo-1123308/

Signed! This would be such a terrible decision for Lützerath and how can Germany reach 1,5C while expanding coal extraction....
