This week you talked about reducing packaging from your own brands with great pride and glee but those are not the problem. Your fixture is packed with branded lines that just overkill on packaging. Your standards are mixed. Stop listing brands that have not made an effort to minioae wasteful Easter egg plastic.

We've made real progress in eliminating unnecessary packaging by almost halving the single-use plastic on our own-label Easter eggs and confectionery. It's a move that brings us closer to our pledge to make all own-label packaging either widely recycled, reusable or home compostable by 2023. We hope other branded suppliers will continue to follow our example.

I’ve just asked my children if they would mind not getting Easter eggs this year if I can find ethical, plastic free chocolate they like and it was a unanimous yes. Wish I’d done it years ago!

The retailer Waitrose are green washing Easter eggs. Big push about how amazing their own eggs are packaging etc https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.theretailbulletin.com/food-and-drink/waitrose-cracks-down-on-easter-egg-packaging-22-02-2021/amp/ When the fixture is just full.of branded products they are happy to.list but not control packaging wastefulness. Get yourselves sorted @waitrose.

Why not try making this a climate warning directed at Waitrose?

Well done Total as they announced last week it will withdraw from the American Petroleum Institute (API), the biggest U.S. oil and gas industry group, because of the trade association’s opposition to taking stronger action to fight climate change - do you agree ?

Please tell me what is the leading thinking on food packaging and recycling. Appreciate large subject but need a crash course on leading insights. Where do manufacturers sit in the agenda. Who is leading the agenda. What materials are popular. Please assist.

A date for your diary. 9th December 10am GMT - the UK's Climate Change Committee will publish its 6th Carbon Budget covering the period 2033 - 2037. The CCC area statutory body that holds the UK government to account.....however they do tend to ignore what the CCC advise so it will be interesting to see what position the chair of COP26 adopt when they respond to the report. The UK is showing weak Global leadership for COP26 and this cannot go on. The PM is full of positive rhetoric but as usual no real action or strategic leadership. This was published back in February 2020 and is unfortunately still true. https://www.devex.com/news/uk-launches-cop26-with-no-leader-and-no-obvious-strategy-96502 Do You Agree ?

This is an important milestone, indeed! And even if Biden's current policies are far from enough to complete the transition with climate justice in mind - it could be a great start if we all keep pushing for change through for example https://wedonthavetime.org

Covid19 is a dress rehearsal for Climate Change yet with CC we have been pontificating about policy for decades and making little progress. When CC starts killing people in London New York and Tokyo how will the State respond? Wasted years. Irresponsible Political organisations. Criminal behaviour. Just the way i feel. Agree ? l

Sadly, with current communications measures we will have to wait until it affects the richest parts of the world before things will start to truly change. We need to lift up the solutions, explain how they contribute to a better world and premiere those that do well while steering big emitters away from unsustainable practices. Even then, it will be tough, but we need to make it clear that a sustainable world is BETTER for EVERYONE, not just those who live in the Global South or don't have a lot of money.

Bravo China. They get a lot of bad press but this looks promising. China's aggressive policy of planting trees is likely playing a significant role in tempering its climate impacts. An international team has identified two areas in the country where the scale of carbon dioxide absorption by new forests has been underestimated. Taken together, these areas account for a little over 35% of China's entire land carbon "sink", the group says. The researchers' analysis, based on ground and satellite observations, is reported in Nature journal. China's increasing leafiness has been evident for some time. Billions of trees have been planted in recent decades, to tackle desertification and soil loss, and to establish vibrant timber and paper industries.

In less than a year, there has been a threefold increase in the number of companies committing to net zero, from Apple to General Electric. This is already delivering more than hot air: as companies seek to make good on their commitments, demand is heating up for technology that can suck carbon from the atmosphere and projected revenues from this are soaring. A new study commissioned by the UN-supported Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), for example, reckons that by 2050 the demand for forest-related carbon removal will be delivering $800bn in annual revenues by 2050. Processes such as direct air carbon capture, use and storage could generate an additional annual revenue of $625bn by 2050, the report says. The analysis was conducted as part of the PRI’s inevitable policy response programme.

Toner used in laser printers is also made of microplastic dust. It is made from petroleum, creates noxious dusty messes that must be cleaned up with special vacuums, any spilled toner lasts perpetually, and it makes the paper more difficult to recycle leading to higher recycled paper prices and therefore more clearcutting.

Well done shareholders. P and G appalling Top institutional shareholders in Procter & Gamble have defied the company to throw their weight behind a call for it to do more to protect forests as an environmental wave confronts the world’s largest consumer group. In an unusually big investor rebellion at one of the largest US companies, two-thirds of votes at P&G’s annual meeting were cast in favour of a shareholder proposal critical of how it uses palm oil and forest pulp in products including Bounty paper towels and Charmin toilet paper. BlackRock, P&G’s second-largest shareholder with a 6.6 per cent stake, is among the investors that took part in the revolt. Before the meeting, P&G had urged shareholders to vote against the proposal put forward by Green Century Capital Management, an eco-conscious investment firm with $825m of assets under management. P&G said it had already taken and was continuing to take significant steps to reduce its impact on forests.

The faster the delivery time, the worse it is on the planet. Amazon often half fill lorries to fulfil these next day orders. I recently ordered an office chair and I decided to buy it from a local office supplier instead of e-commerce. I managed to get them to price match online listings so I ended up paying the same! Buy less, buy local :)

The last 20 years in CC have been all about combative agendas. Governments strong on policy weak on action. Activists being stroppy and devisive. Global ambassadors such as Attenborough and Greta doing great work. Normal citizens totally confused about what they should be doing. Corporates (some) doing a great job others making money whilst others are just appalling. If we approached this as a adult conversation with clear signposting about what role every actor needs play then we would all start to point in the same direction. Global governance needs to work and without getting too political Trump.must go as must Johnson in UK.
