“Sweden as a country is exceptionally well suited to produce renewable energy, but political initiatives are required for Sweden to be truly electrified”. Those are the words of our CEO and co-founder Erik Martinson in an opinion piece in the Swedish newspaper Dagens Industri last week. In it, he argues that in a country where electrification of industry and transport will lead to at least a doubling of energy consumption by 2045, we need to increase the pace of the buildout of renewable energy. We see three general reforms as most important: - ☀️ Solar parks: National goals and a strategy on the national level for solar parks. A clear goal for solar energy will make it easier for authorities to regulate permit processes, which will in the long run mean that more actors will want to put money into solar parks. - 🏠 Demand solar panels on new buildings: Much like in Berlin, Sweden should implement a demand for solar panels on at least 30 percent of new buildings in one of our largest cities. - 💸 Remove the tax on self-produced electricity: Like Italy, France, Germany, Spain and almost all other EU countries, we should have no tax on electricity that you produce yourself. Solar energy has the potential to make up 25% of the Swedish energy mix, but we need the political will to get there. It’s time for Sweden to become a leader and start valuing the sun as a source of electricity. Svea Solar's plant in Sjöbo, Skåne with 40,000 solar panels provides approximately 19 million kWh per year built on an area of 26 hectares. The biggest of its kind in Sweden. The owners want the land between the solar panels to be a refuge for vegetation and ground-nesting birds. They have also set up nests for storks with the hope that they will nest in the area! I want to give a lot of Climate Love to SVEA Solar, because they are not talking in terms of 2025, 2030 and 2050. They are talking about ”NOW” and they have really understood that we need to act now - We Don’t Have Time to wait. I know there are high expectations for COP26 and the hope is that Greta doesn’t get it right (”Blah, blah, blah”). The dream is instead that all participants in Glasgow, just like SVEA Solar understand that we must act NOW and not 2030 or 2050. It’s just a way to put off tough decisions. It’s about us humans, because it’s not the planet we need to save, because the planet will survive us, it’s about our lives. People actually DIE, due to the way we act and make decisions - Tomorrow it could be YOU.

Many thanks for the climate love – we’re in this together. We must speed up the powershift to renewables while slowing down climate change.

Agree. I am a happy customer. Their solar panels on my roof pay my electric bill! I produce more than I consume. Everyone should do it if they can.

Solar at that latitude is less useful. These countries need to focus more on other sources. Some extra solar could be useful.

Sweden needs to be better on nuclear power that delivers 24/7. Solar won't help much in a country that's more dependent on heating than running AC's.
