The jury’s statement With their solid groundbreaking projects they create conditions for transition and sustainable development in various industries. With their wide-ranging sustainability initiatives and collaboration with other actors, Axfoundation contributes a holistic perspective with a long-term approach and acts as a system-influencing force in Sweden and globally. Axfoundation runs a range of projects in three program areas: Sustainable Production & Consumption, Circular Economy, and Future Food. The Future Food program has given rise to such innovations as minced bream made from unused fish in Swedish lakes, as well as Sweden’s first “green” rainbow trout, which are bred on circular-based feed made from insects. Within the Circular Economy area, the Swedish Wool Initiative is striving to ensure that no Swedish wool is wasted. In all of their projects, Axfoundation collaborates with partners in various sectors and industries, not least to connect researchers with the business community in order to accelerate the transition to a more sustainable society. “We’ve always seen companies as a powerful, positive force for change in the transition to a sustainable society. Axfoundation and their co-working organization have created a tool together with AskKauko to companies and organization to keep track of their supply- and value chain. If we really want to be sustainable, we need to know about not only our own emissions, but also about our suppliers’ emission. Viveka Risberg from Axfoundation held a great presentation about the tool, www.climateeducationtool.com. The tool is great and what is even better, is that it is for free. https://www.axfoundation.se https://www.askkauko.com

Day by day, more and more companies are joining the movement to net zero, setting targets and actions to achieve them. No business operates in a vacuum, however. All rely directly or indirectly on other businesses to operate, which means that reducing their own emissions depends on other businesses reducing their emissions, too. Scope 3 emissions – a company’s indirect emissions stemming from their supply chain – often comprise more than 50 percent and up to 95 percent of a business’ carbon footprint. Large companies may be able to deal with these indirect emissions quite effectively due to their resources and leverage within the value chain. Small- and Mid-size Enterprises (SMEs), however, are often in the dark about how to influence their Scope 3 emissions. That is where the new Climate Education Tool comes in, which was given the spotlight at the We Don’t Have Time STHLM +50 Climate Hub earlier this year. The tool is developed by Axfoundation and partners, including our excellent tech partners over at AskKauko. Gathering for a discussion hosted by Nick Nuttall of We Don’t Have Time was Viveka Risberg, our program director for sustainable production and consumption at Axfoundation, along with several of our partners in developing this great tool: Josefin Hård, sustainability manager at Kicks; Karin Wimmer, sustainability coordinator for Axfood; Magnus Nikkarinen, senior policy director of sustainability at Svensk Handel (Swedish Trade Federation); Johan Falk, CEO and co-founder of the Exponential Roadmap Initiative; and Sami Tornikoski, AskKauko’s chief of sustainability. Introducing the Climate Education Tool, Viveka described, “It’s an interactive website for small- and medium-sized companies all over the world who need to get started and take action on their climate journey. You can say it’s for beginners to support them to set targets in line with science and set strategies in order to reduce GHG [greenhouse gas] emissions in line with science.” We’re excited about the tool for many reasons, and perhaps most of all because it’s freely available. “As far as we know, because we made a pre-study last year, we haven’t found anything like it that is free and open access to anyone,” said Viveka. “There are some solutions which are locked and private, but this is really working for any company in any sector – and it’s free – so I think it’s actually world-unique in that sense.” The tool is created to provide common groundwork for emissions reduction and facilitate communication among companies within a value chain. Johan Falk said, “Companies, you basically can’t do this halving or reaching zero emissions on your own. You have to do it together with your suppliers, together with your customers, setting the same compass direction. That is the way to achieve it. You have to work together to achieve it.” Watch the session "Climate education tool for suppliers" from STHLM+50 Climate Hub: https://youtu.be/bNgXDcelbS8?t=3932

65-95% of GHG emissions are in scope 3. The value chain actors need to accelerate their climate work and take climate leadership. As a buying company you can help your suppliers to get started by providing them The Climate Tool link. It's a user friendly hands-on education for every company in the beginning of its climate journey, all in line with science. How? Send the link to your suppliers and encourage them to use it - and to pass the link on to their sub suppliers. Who is it for? The tool is for suppliers and SME;s in different sectors. It's generic with specific examples and business cases from the electronics, agriculture/food and apparel/textile industry. How much is it? It's free and open access. Is it a reporting tool? No, the purpose with the Climate Tool is to capacity build the user. The tool contains a questionnaire resulting in a printable action plan. All data stays with the user. Who's behind it? Axfoundation developed the Climate Tool in collaboration with Exponential Roadmap, Axfood, Kicks, Martin & Servera and the Swedish Trade Federation. AskKauko Impact OS created the tool. Welcome to use it by clicking the link and log in! https://www.climateeducationtool.com/cliedu/Home

On June 3, the Climate Education tool will be launched on STHLM +50 Climate Hub. It is a digital and open training tool for companies at the supplier level, where between 65-95% of emissions occur. The tool, which is aimed at companies in several industries, is the result of a collaboration between Axfoundation, Exponential Roadmap Initiative, Axfood, Kicks, Martin & Servera and Swedish Trade. Is there a need for a Climate Education tool? Yes, there is. One challenge is the lack of competence on the part of companies in the value chain (scope 3), which have not yet set their own targets and strategies for reducing emissions. There is a need for competence transfer, capacity building on the supplier side and clearer requirements from purchasing companies. In collaboration with @exponential_roadmap, @Axfood, @Kicks, Martin och Servera and @svensk_handel (Swedish Trade Federation), Axfoundation is developing a digital climate education tool for SME’s in different countries and sectors. It will be webb-based, open and free of cost, produced by @AskKauko and launched in May. More to come..!

There are several companies and organizations that have realize that waste is no longer waste and see it as a resource instead and one of those organizations is Axfoundation. They have launched a initiative called ”From waste to fashion”. Obstacles and solutions were identified from a behavioral and policy perspective. The project was run by IVL Swedish Environmental Institute 2020 - 2021 in collaboration with Axfoundation and a number of other actors in business, academia and the public sector. The fashion industry has to understand their importance due to climate change and project like this is good for the whole value chain. https://www.axfoundation.se/ https://ivl.se/
