A question for Tomer from ClimateView: Would you say your biggest challenge to create a global platform is technical? Or is it harder to convince governments and organizations to share their progress?
•
237 w
@jonas_johansson I heard somthing about plans for a fish farmas a part of Mariestad's quest to increase sustainabiblity. Can you confirm and tell us more on why and how and what you hope to achieve with it? /Mårten
•
237 w
Yes, we looking in to that possibility to using sun, water and hydrogen within a sustainble system to achieve food production like fish, tomatoes and sallad. We have not started yet, but we welcome info. facts so we can proceed with the idea.
•
237 w
And yet anothor one for @Nuria How do you meassure the impact and success of La Palma Renovable? Self suffieciency? Jobs? Inhabitants? Satisfaction? Local business? /Mårten
•
237 w
Initially success for us is to involve as many organizations as possible in a way that goes beyond signing a pledge. If organizations go to workshops, take responsibility of different pieces of tasks, do their part, that is a good indicator. In long term our success will be measured in increase of renewable energy production, reduction of GHG emissions and all those goals and indicators that we will collectively be setting in the process that we are working in right now.
•
237 w
Sounds like a good start! Looking forward to hear more about your results in the future - keep it up! 🌍
•
237 w
I another one for @Nick_Nuttal: What's the main obsticles to overcome on route towards low/zero carbon societis? What roles do you recon should be palyed by "North" (post-developed) and "South" (developing) countries? /Mårten
•
237 w
! have one question for @Jonas_Johansson: How do you measure success in terms of going solar, hydro and electric in Mariestad. What reaction have you had from people, politicians, the media etc? /Mårten
•
237 w
We have just positive reactions from many other cities visiting us, many magazines doing reportages and Swedish television, svt nyheter, and most inhabitants are proud of what we are doing.
•
237 w
And @Nuria, here's another one for you: What have been key success factors to persuade prople, politicians and organisations to joinand share the vision of La Palma Renovable? /Mårten
•
237 w
I think it was very important to create a trust in the process and all people leading the process. Also, to talk to everyone without prejudices, we really got surprised by many people we didn't think they would join us so easily and the way around, some of who we thought would be easy were difficult to convince. So, open mind and open heart was key I believe
•
237 w
Here's a complex one for Tomer Shallit: Your system builds on a wide range of data sources. What blind spots does it have and are you comfortable with built-in assumptions of compliance? I.e do you think Climate View will reflected the reality in Sweden (and elsewhere)? /Mårten
•
237 w
@Nuria Which is your biggest problem in terms of CO2 emissions and how do you plan to address it? /Mårten
•
237 w
Transport in and out the island will be a difficult part, as well as the food dependency we have from outside. We don't have all answers because we know big changes of the way the society works have to take place, and system changes are not things anyone can plan. So what we plan to do is to create the space so all those solutions can emerge and be applied by all different actors in a coordinated way.
•

Am glad to have joined in the conversation . May name is Andy Iji from Nigeria
•
237 w
Hi 👋🏻Andy!

•
237 w
Thanks for joining Andy. This is a global problem and we need everyone
•
237 w
For Jonas: Is your city or municipality actively promoting solutions like your logistics hub to other cities/municipalities in Sweden? Have you seen other places following your example?
•
237 w
There are other cities who have logistic hub solutions, but I have not noticed if there are any with low-emission distribution, so hopefully many cities will follow.
•
237 w
Yes, great. Get the papers reporting it!
•
237 w
I have one for @Nick_Nuttall: Prime Minister Narendra Modi says India will achieve most of the COP 21 climate change goals set for 2030 in the next one and half years – do you believe him? /Mårten
•
237 w
Thanks to all for a great show!
•
237 w
Thank you for Vanessa, I have a question for you. What special challenges does the Eastern Africa region face and what should be done?
•
237 w
I have a question or Jonas: In one sentence, if possible – why choose your solution over electric?
•
237 w
Beacause we had already done an investment in an electric vehicle. Today we should choose a vehicle with fuel cells.
•
237 w
Thanks.
•
237 w
To Vanessa: Are the droughts more regular in Tanzania and Kenya now compared to 40-50 years ago? So glad to see what you're doing in Uganda. Thanks and keep up the good work.
•
237 w
The logistics hub in Mariestad is such an inspiring project! If there are so many benefits to it, there will be more cities who want to use similar solutions. With such a good example, we could send this climate idea to other cities as well! 💡 @jonas_johansson do you have a link to the video - and perhaps other sharable material that could be sent to other cities?
•
237 w
We are happy to share our experiences with others, that´s the purpose for us. We will share our video at our web site mariestad.se/electrivillage in a couple of days.
•
237 w
Thanks Jonas! 💚🌍
•
237 w
Paul! interesting analysis! thank you
•
237 w
Thank you guys. I am impressed We need this situation room for the worl! One question to @Tomer. What gives you hope that we will be able to break out of "the tragedy of the commons" and cooperate for the collective good?
•
237 w
First of all, I just think one needs to try, no other option exists. But more concrete, my experience the past years, trying to build the enterprise has shown so clearly that people on all levels in government, cities, companies, are prepared to act in new ways. To just just get things done.
•
237 w
To Paul: Wow.. your initative is very impressive.. What do you think is needed to take the information to actual action? Could you do that in the future?
•
237 w
Jonas: very encouraging news from Mariestad! You are a great example for both cities and even countries! Please, if possible, give us 2 or 3 keys to your successful transition. Many thanks
•
237 w
Thanks, there are many keys, but the most important is to get in to implement good ideas, to have the courage to get started. Find those people who wants to take decisions
•
237 w
Yeah, getting started usually is the hardest part. But once you're up and running, others will join you if you're doing something good!
•
237 w
Thanks for good answers! Mariestad is a great role model with many good people working together for a change! Please say hello to Susanne and Johan from a proud "västgöte"
•
237 w
@Nuria, is it possible for you to move fast towards net zero emissions "by yourself" or does it also depend on what happens in the world at large, Spain, EU, etc?
•
237 w
We're very aware of the complexity of the world and how changes in other places affect us. For example the new legislation in the EU level for local energy communities will certainly help to create the type of transition that we are pushing for. Of course, being in an island makes us much more isolated in the flow of materials and energy (right now we are totally dependent on fossil fuels) and we see our system as a model of a tiny planet, since, after all, planet earth can be viewed as an island in the universe. Anyway, our project have been inspired from the beginning by many other amazing projects around the world, and we hope that noone gets by himself creating inspiring projects and they share it with all of us, so we can keep on helping each other.
•
237 w
Nick Nuttall, do you think any of the democratic candidates stand out on climate?
•
237 w
To Mariestad: If you can dream a little, how can a local initiative in Sweden become a global gamechanger? Is it possible?
•
237 w
Yes, it´s possible with political leadership, visions, courage and determination in the organization to get things done. We have that in Mariestad, Sweden.
•
237 w
What is the largest role that cities or city governments can take up in the battle against Climate Change? Procurement, infrastructure, social change...?
•
237 w
Very good question! I think Nuria Albet can answer this one. /David
•
237 w
I think they have a huge role, infrastructure for example can be an important one. But for us it has also been important to point all the time that things usually don't happen by itself. We need to see coalitions of different sectors (grass roots with cities or island council in our case, but also now business, schools, organizations,...) in order of pushing things to happen if they are not moving fast enough or even taking shared responsabilities. We believe the time of 'government saves all our problems' has ended, not because governments and even cities have not recourses, because often are the actors with the biggest capacity to concentrate resources, but because the problem is too huge and complex to be solved only by one or few actors.
•
237 w
This is a great initiative. My questions to the speakers are; 1.How can emissions and defforestation in LMICs b3 solved when the population can not afford clean energy. 2. What is the best way to cause behavioural change while doing sensitizations. I am running a project that aims at bringing people's attention to climate change in Uganda.
•
237 w
Thank you for your question, I forwarded it to Vanessa. /David
•

237 w
Hi Jill, do you think climate guilt can actually motivate people to change?
•
237 w
Climate messaging often focuses on guilt, but this is not shown to be the most motivating approach. A recent study by Elke Weber looks at this question and discovered that pride is more motivating. This study is worth reviewing. We also believe that you must connect more deeply to people’s values and identities to motivate for long term action.
•
237 w
Like pride in choosing the train over flying... Per Espen Stoknes talks about this as well, that the transition requires a value shift where we incorporate sustainable behavior in our identities.
•
237 w
Very interesting news from Ingmar.. Have this been published somewhere else? The XR case is really horrible
•
•
•
237 w
Hi Sarah. I Don’t think anyone has highlighted that news. Yet. But Please help us call them out and inform media of This information warfare that is going on.
•
237 w
Where in the world should we look for climate leadership Nick Nutell?
•
237 w
Al Gore / The Climate Reality Project is a great resource for guidance. Yet more profoundly, Climate Change is vital - Changing the Emotional Climate is essential. This is the root of virtually all our global ills. I believe that Renewable Energy begins from Within. As Above So Below. So in seeking that outer leadership you so aptly express, remember to turn on the lights at "home" for that subtle inner guidance to help see the forest from the trees ... and stabilise in unstable times :-).
•
237 w
I'll start with a question for Mr. Rentzhog: In an extremely diverse, global, and unhinged media landscape, it's becoming hard to properly evaluate the information. How do you make people trust news sources that actually are reliable, well-researched? /David
•
•
•
237 w
I think we need to get as close to the source as possible. And also trust the crowd. Read comments from other social media users etc. Try to verify a story from different sources etc. But with modern technology this is going to be more difficult in the future.
•
237 w
Can’t wait 😊

Panorama is great for coalescing all the growing climate-related info. Yet resistance to change also stems from brain-drain / frustration in searching sites with data. Many folks (understandably) prefer an autopilot life. So perhaps we add Panoramic simplicity to include one-stop shopping? Imagine a global brand company like IKEA opening Eco-malls worldwide / online. And not just for one lifestyle category but for many. Coaxing an overwhelmed public into healthier living with ease is key. All-in-one Eco Shopping Centres in which everything is already environmentally green-lighted could be a welcome newcomer to the retail sector (a la USA): Supermarkets (think Whole Foods) + Drugstore (think Walgreens / CVS) + recycled fashion shops + recycled furniture shops + Home & Office Supplies (think Home Depot / Office Depot) etc. This would facilitate consumer purchasing / reduce data overload like reading labels, finding locations, assessing quality control (unless they wish to further delve).
