Fossil fuels are great contributions to climate change..

A lot of synthetic garments end up in Africa. Avoiding items to end up in the rivers of Kenya for example, is not covered by anyones margin. This results in massive amounts of waste and you could argue whether it would have been better to burn used clothes (for energy) in the Global North, instead of giving it another life in the Global South. I do think at some point we have to avoid completely using plastic in our clothes, because everything is connected.

@africa_collect_textiles totally agree, but you know, until the wast does not enter into Europeans house they won't see the problem.

We manually recycle jeans into rugs, but we avoid the ones with too much stretch. So even manual recycling cannot solve this waste problem.

Thanks, WDT Team, and esteemed eco panelists. Look forward to useful deliberations and action. In the beginning, my question is why the bill " Right to Repair " is in cold storage in the US senate. This is linked to Fossil Fuel and Plastics too. Eco-Sense is Cost Free and is a real cultural heritage of a sustainable society. Wish all the best. Prof JV, Mysuru, India. jagsiobbindia@gmail.com

I want to be a sustainable customer, but it´s hard to make the right choices. If I don't choose clothes made from plastic and choose clothes made from cotton - I have to deal with the problem of water consumption. Water is also linked to survival of mankind.

I find the subsidies counter fascinating. In spite of all good intentions and promises at COP26, subsidies are escalating. Is there a way to embed your counter on my website?
•
•
•

@Below2_C We don't have it available for embedding yet, but that is a great suggestion!

@Below2_C the counter is here by the way: https://www.wedonthavetime.org/extra/fossilsubsidies

I had never thought of used, synthetic clothes being sent off to other countries as being exportation of plastic waste, but that´s really what it is! Thanks Josie for pointing that out!

We need to put an end to fossil fuel subsidies and reduce incentives to produce plastics.
