Sweden – electronic store wants to double amount of recycled phones

Every year, 4 milion new phones are sold in Sweden and 97% of all Swedes own a phone. This week electronic store chain Elgiganten made a announcement they want to double the amount of recycled phones in Sweden from 1 million to 2 million. To do that they want to make it easier for costumers to make the right choice by offering a good deal when you hand in your old phone. The target of this is to get people to hand in the phones that are not in use, for recycling. “It is estimated that there are 20–25 million old mobile phones in Sweden that only collect dust. Many people do not know what to do with old technology, and that is something that Elgiganten wants to help with. With us he you repair, resell or recycle your obsolete electronics products”, writes Elgiganten on their webpage. It is important to watch out for the risk that people use this to upgrade from perfectly working phones just to buy the latest model.
