Three leading farms on Gotland have partnered with Hemp Innovations to cultivate industrial hemp

Three leading farms on Gotland have partnered with Hemp Innovations Europe AB to cultivate industrial hemp on a large scale using the HempLand platform. This move aims to make hemp cultivation highly profitable for farmers and significantly reduce CO2 emissions. Hemp's versatility and cost-effectiveness, combined with its rapid growth and minimal need for pesticides, are driving its global market growth, expected to reach SEK 188 billion by 2027.
The surge in hemp cultivation worldwide, especially in the USA, highlights its wide-ranging applications, including building materials, biofuel, nutritious food, plastic substitutes, and composite materials. Additionally, hemp plays a crucial role in environmental sustainability by absorbing large amounts of CO2 and supporting the manufacturing industry's shift towards a circular economy.
The strategic initiative by Gotland's farmers, joined by others from mainland Sweden, aims to cultivate up to 60 hectares in eastern Sweden by 2024. The crop's economic viability, environmental benefits, and historical significance in Gotland underscore its potential. Hemp Innovations, focusing on supplying the Swedish industry with bioproducts for circular transition, is committed to reviving significant commercial hemp cultivation in Sweden to address climate challenges.
