The future of biking? An electric bike without lithium

We all know that biking is the future of mobility and is way better than cars from an ecological point of view. But what about electric bikes, whose manufacture requires rare metals such as lithium, and whose batteries are difficult to recycle?
Well, PI-POP has a solution: a bike powered by "super-capacitors". The super-capacitor system enables ultra-fast recharging of stored energy. Unlike a conventional electric bike, where the battery has to be recharged, the super-capacitor uses the energy produced by the crankset. In other words, when you're riding flat or downhill, you're charging your battery, which will then enable you to go uphill more easily.
What is even better is that the super-capacitor does not require rare metals such as lithium. During use, it requires no electricity to perform, so the number of recharges is virtually unlimited. The company estimates the lifespan of this new-generation "battery" at 10 to 15 years, compared with 3 to 5 years for a conventional electric battery. Last but not least, the super-capacitor can also be totally recycled as it is made of common materials such as aluminum, carbon, cellulose, and polymers.

@marinestephan This has the potential to reduce environmental harm caused by lithium mining and disposal, but it may be limited in terms of performance and energy efficiency compared to lithium based bicycles.

@gorffly_mokua I don't actually know how it is in terms of performance. I hope PI-POP will answer!
