Create a global labeling for Soil Regeneration

Happy World Soil Day ! ✨🍁🌿 Hope that soon we as citizens of this earth can spend every day eating food that regenerate our soil instead of depleting it. That each of our regions manages its land in a regenerative way, sequestering carbon and building healthy soil and thriving ecosystems. Creating carbon sinks as a way to pay back on their carbon dioxide emission debts built up trough the centuries. Perhaps this is possible to drive through the simple act of what we as consumers buy. What if we could introduce a label globally or accross some key regions the world of ”Soil Regeneration”. Can we find a way to measure it and a way to pay for this labeling so that the farmers dont have to end up payign for it all? Perhaps the Rodale Institute has some ideas? Or maybe they already are sorking on Regenerative Organic lbels? In that case how can we scale it and make it affordable for all farmers practicing the techniques to adopt? Imagine a label like organic farming - for regenerative farming - stating that the food was produced in a way that actually regenerates the soil. Building healthy topsoil that is not just sequestering carbon but increasing ecosystem health, biodiversity, aiding us in climate adaptation (with increased water holding capacity) and improving food quality and nutrition - as well as increased yields per hectare and more profit for the farmers. So many benefits, Let’s make this happen! We have about 60 harvests left in our world agricultural soils with business as usual. But I am hopeful for the movement of regenerative agriculture sweeping accross the globe for creating a pivot in how we farm on a global scale! It all is quite simple really.. Feed the soil! Feed the world! ..And not to forget all the microroganisms that we all depend on. Healthy soil. Healthy planet. Healthy food. Healthy people. ✨ 🌍 👩🏼‍🌾🌱💪🏼✨🌱👨🏽‍🌾 🌍 ✨

Thanks so much for reaching out! I’m excited to say that a label for regenerative organic does currently exist! It’s called Regenerative Organic Certified, and Rodale Institute has been working with other members of the Regenerative Organic Alliance like Patagonia and Dr. Bronner’s for a number of years to get it off the ground. Regenerative Organic Certified, or ROC, is the gold standard in food labeling, using USDA Certified Organic as a baseline and encouraging farmers and brands to take their agricultural practices to the next level to protect our climate, our soil, and our health. In order to receive the ROC label, farmers must adhere to stringent requirements in soil health, animal welfare, and social fairness. You can find out more about the standard at RegenOrganic.org. ROC-labelled products have begun to hit shelves in the US in the past six months, and will continue to roll out. Applications for the program are also open globally. We are thankful to organizations like yours and your members for being so passionate and knowledgeable about the role that soil and our food system play in the fight against the climate crisis. We all must work together to heal people and the planet, and consumers and activists are a major part of that effort. I also encourage you to look at our recent publication on this topic, “Regenerative Agriculture and the Soil Carbon Solution,” which can be downloaded for free here: https://rodaleinstitute.org/education/resources/regenerative-agriculture-and-the-soil-carbon-solution/ Thanks again and happy new year! How is this different to the Soil Association's certification? Shouldn't regeneration be integrated to their standard instead, since its a well-known certificate ? (if its not already integrated)
