“I realised we were leaving plastic in the environment that would remain there for ever,” he says. “And I realised we needed something biodegradable or we’d be storing up problems for the future. So I set about studying things.” After more than decade of research and development, López-Pozas’s company, BioAmmo, created 100% plastic-free, biodegradable and bio-compostable shotgun cartridges that are now sold in more than 20 countries. This is great. Read article about BioAmmo in the Gurdian: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/jan/25/green-shoots-spanish-firm-tackles-plastic-waste-from-shotgun-cartridges

We warmly welcome your support and encouragement, especially as both We Don’t Have Time and BioAmmo share the same goal of drastically reducing the amount of single-use plastic that is polluting our planet. There is now no excuse to continue manufacturing cartridges with fossil-based plastics that will contaminate the environment for hundreds of years, filling up landfill and/or breaking down into micro-plastics that enter the food chain. Recycling, even when it happens, only defers the time until they end up in landfill. An easy analogy is that each cartridge case is equivalent to 7 plastic bags and of course many hundreds of millions are used in Europe every year. Fortunately there is now a viable and sustainable solution with BioAmmo. BioAmmo’s wads and cases are made from a natural biopolymer material that is of vegetal origin. 100% biodegradable and non-toxic with 0% plastic. They are consumed by micro-organisms, such as bacteria, that turn them back into fertilising non-toxic biomass. Our shot loads are also quickly moving across to only non-toxic materials too. BioAmmo looks forward to working closely with the supporters of We Don’t Have Time and to take the necessary action to completely avoid the continuing pollution of our environment from single-use plastics in cartridges. Together we can save the climate and the planet.

Great for delving into an area that to many would go assumed and lag behind tech in obtaining sustainable products.

Any chemicals? Our research into biodegradable bottles show massive chemical leakage when degrading? Paul

Is the shot still made with lead?

Before plastic shotgun cartridges were introduced, the cartridges were made of paper. The wad used to be felt. However the cartridges were probably more sensitive to moisture.

This is ingenious from a very unique angle. When you imagine what 20 million plastic catridges normally amount to in environmental terms, then you appreciate how much of a difference this makes

That’s great, I always support plastic-free products however if we are to achieve ‘social responsibility’ a crucial part of sustainable development then shouldn’t we stop producing weapons and ammunition all together? 🤔
