BBC claims about COP28 secret oil deals are flawed

The BBC has dropped a bombshell story in partnership with the Center for Climate Reporting (CCR), claiming that the UAE presidency of the UN’s COP28 climate summit in Dubai secretly used COP negotiations to strike new oil and gas deals that would increase global fossil fuel production.
This story suffers from serious flaws and omissions, and as a result, is misleading. Yet it’s been seized on by environmental campaigners to suggest that the COP28 negotiations are nothing more than a ploy to expand global fossil fuel production.
Dive into this fascinating piece of investigative journalism that sheds light on the ongoing propaganda battle surrounding COP28. Remember, the reality is often more nuanced than it appears

In the article on Age Of Transformation, the writer wonders if the notes were "part of the sort of wider general background guidance notes that are regularly prepared for diplomatic teams." I suspect they were because in the notes for Brazil you can see that Apollo was still mentioned as a partner in the bid for Braskem, while it's been public since 19 September that Apollo has backed out. https://valorinternational.globo.com/google/amp/business/news/2023/09/19/apollo-gives-up-adnoc-continues-alone-to-purchase-braskem.ghtml

I want with all my heart believe that this is true and that we are finally at least changing direction in favour of our planet. But i'm now cautious into believing this as well as it doesn't prove that deals were not made eighter. I guess only time will tell.

It would be an unheard atrocity for people to use a platform meant to deplatform oil to make oil sales.

This jeopardises the credibility of the news outlet and still undermines the public's trust in the media role in conveying critical information.
