The COP30 and COP31 Presidencies will host a webinar on Monday, July 27, to discuss how COPs can address the climate and food security crisis.
Few issues are more pressing than ensuring food security in a warming world—and few opportunities to hear directly from both the current and incoming COP Presidencies come along. This upcoming seminar, organized by the UN Foundation, brings together representatives of the COP30 and COP31 Presidencies to discuss how they are placing food security at the heart of the global climate adaptation agenda.
The discussion will explore how initiatives such as the NAP Implementation Alliance, RAIZ (Resilient Agriculture Investment for net-Zero Land Degradation) and the Turquoise Nexus Initiative are helping to mobilize support for farmers, strengthen food systems and protect vulnerable communities.

The timing could hardly be more important. An emerging El Niño is expected to bring extreme heat, drought and rainfall failures across several regions, exacerbating already high food and energy prices, fertiliser shortages, and increasing the risk of acute hunger and famine in parts of Sub-Saharan Africa by late 2026.
The seminar will also provide an update on preparations for the upcoming Africa Food Systems Forum, where investment and innovation in resilient, job-creating agri-food systems will take centre stage.
For anyone following international climate policy, food security or sustainable development, this is one of those discussions that is well worth making time for. It offers a rare opportunity to hear how the COP30 and COP31 Presidencies intend to turn adaptation commitments into practical support for the people and communities on the front lines of climate change.
