Vala – energy efficiency in buildings
Tentania’s pitch: The building sector in the EU is responsible for 40% of all produced energy and 36% of all CO₂ emissions. We are on a mission to reduce these numbers. We have developed a cloud platform that contains two products. The first product, Vala Energy, makes buildings smarter. Powered by AI, it reduces heating by up to 15%. Our second product, Vala Home, is a communication platform. For the real estate owner, Vala Home means news, surveys, and case management. For the resident, Vala Home means a household app that integrates with the apartment. Using Vala Home, the resident can for example read their individual energy usage. The app also uses nudging to make residents live more climate friendly.

What are the biggest advantages of Vala Home versus Alexa or Google Home? How do you protect privacy?

With our app you 1) enter a community, where you can engage with your neighbors and 2) get an understanding for the CO2 footprint of your household 3) get active tips on how you can reduce your CO2 footprint and 4) can monitor your CO2 contribution. With a weekly CO2 budget the household work actively and through a market platform we offer products and services that give a net positive CO2 reduction i.e. you buy a product and your weekly CO2 budget gets affected. Our vision is to change the living patterns of households, in a sustainable way, and create a positive movement

Agree with the comments above. Not only is building responsible for over 1/3 of the CO2 produced in Europe. That makes the building sector worth addressing. This solution gives every individual the opportunity to have an impact - and that is, in my view, the best path to reducing our collective CO2 footprint quickly. On the downside, the renewal cycle for buildings is very long, so we also need to address other possibilities. I'm going to download the app. This start-up gets a vote from me!

@greg_arena Indeed the renewal cycle for buildings is very long! Our focus is today to positively impact 1) the residents in buildings (by making them more aware of their CO2-footprint and 2) reduce the heating in buildings with our software that plan ahead and reduces the heating in real time. We are also working with real estate developers to find more CO2-friendly materials and analyze the whole building cycle i.e. apart from operations also look at the life-cycle perspective.

It is a good idea for me to restore energy and distribute it in modern buildings for residents and so on. There is only a simple gap in the operating and protection system for safety. There are many ways to make it sustainable. Natural to use without maintenance, for example.
