Donald Trump has nominated Neil Jacobs—the man who helped manipulate a hurricane forecast to protect Trump’s ego—to lead NOAA again. Jacobs was NOAA’s acting head during Sharpiegate, when Trump falsely claimed Hurricane Dorian would hit Alabama. When meteorologists corrected him, Trump altered an official NOAA forecast map with a Sharpie to make himself look right. Instead of defending science, Jacobs’ NOAA caved to political pressure, silencing its own scientists and violating scientific integrity rules. Now Jacobs is back—just as Trump’s allies are working to erase climate science from the U.S. government.

The USDA has already banned its employees from using the term “climate change” in official communications. This is part of a broader effort to strip scientific agencies of their ability to report and act on climate threats. NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) is one of the world’s most important climate agencies. It provides critical climate and weather data, helping scientists track hurricanes, droughts, wildfires, and rising sea levels. It plays a key role in protecting lives, forecasting extreme weather, and guiding climate policy. Trump’s allies have already outlined plans to dismantle NOAA, privatize the National Weather Service, and silence government scientists who report on the climate crisis. A Society That Silences Science Will Collapse This isn’t just about NOAA or the USDA. A government that suppresses truth cannot function. A society that denies science will crumble under the weight of disasters it refuses to acknowledge. Silencing climate science means: • More deadly hurricanes without proper warning • More wildfires burning unchecked • More failed crops and food shortages • More lives lost because politicians put their power before the truth When governments attack science, they are attacking our ability to survive.
