🗻 Plant converts CO2 into stone

It’s not news to anyone that we need to curb our carbon emissions drastically. Now, a plant called Orca is helping us reverse part of the emissions already in the air. Orca is designed to suck CO2 from the air, turning it into solid rock.

Thank you all for your positive comments and support! We greatly appreciate the climate love we have received from you. We have a clear mission: to protect our planet and ensure a livable future for generations to come. As the IPCC states, global warming must be limited to 1.5°C. To maximize our chances of achieving this, the world needs to reach net-zero emissions by 2050. So how do we get there? Emissions reductions are the absolute priority in this quest — we all have a responsibility to reduce our carbon emissions. But to truly enable global net zero, we also need carbon dioxide removal solutions, such as direct air capture and storage (DAC+S), to neutralize our unavoidable and historic emissions. Critically, we need to remove billions of tons of CO₂ from the air by 2100 to keep global warming in check. That's why we’re on a journey to scale our DAC+S technology to gigaton capacity: On September 8, 2021, we launched Orca, the world’s first and largest direct air capture and storage plant, making carbon dioxide removal on large-scale a reality. This plant has a nominal CO₂ capture capacity of 4,000 tons per year. And this means that, once captured, the CO₂ can no longer contribute to climate change. On June 28, 2022, we announced the groundbreaking of our second, newest and largest direct air capture and storage plant, Mammoth. This second plant is designed with a nominal CO₂ capture capacity of 36,000 tons per year when fully operational – an order of magnitude larger than its Orca. You can all help us on our mission to a climate-positive world by reducing your carbon footprint and removing unavoidable and historic emissions from the air. You can become a Climate Pioneer by removing CO₂ for yourself or by giving an eco-conscious gift to a loved one. Check out our website! https://climeworks.com/actnow
