A recent report by 18 NGOs pointed out the immense investments that are still locked into a catastrpophic carbon intensive future. Vanguard was noted as having 104 billion dollars (!!) invested in bonds and shares in coal, oil and gas companies. How does Vanguard plan to change their investments away from this industry, use its shareholder influence over these companies to change their business models away from fossil fuels or at least influence their customers into not investing in such companies? There´s ESG investing options on your website but I think they could be much more prominent and conversely, the externalities of investing in fossil fuel companies should be front and center when investing. Hi Victor, thank you for your message. Vanguard cares deeply about climate change as it represents a profound, fundamental risk to investors’ long-term success. Over the past several years, Vanguard has invested greater time and resources in monitoring climate-related risks in the pursuit of long-term value creation and protection for investors in our funds. We have also clearly set out our expectations of companies and boards in a paper (see link below) on climate risk governance. If a company does not make progress on an issue that presents a material risk to long-term value, we will act accordingly. https://drive.google.com/file/d/15Z7vesQQNvjhkUKeL9cgfX4lRzAxArew/view?usp=sharing
