A World Heritage site is being destroyed, apparently against the law, and the project is listed as being funded by the Kuwait Fund. Watch the video from last Thursday, where forest is already being destroyed: https://youtu.be/8Ri9-FFlJCg Time is of the essence. The Call To Action: Write an email to the funders: info@kuwait-fund.org - the more the better. Sign the petition, they do work:https://www.change.org/p/government-of-malawi-department-of-national-parks-waterboard-a-world-heritage-site-on-lake-malawi-is-under-threat-and-needs-your-support-now?fbclid=IwAR2OoX30cy4H-E22-dVNPWcFU-QwywiaklYiXiqdh-fxnJbFnshNTvtPa1M Please SHARE This Post! The United Nations Environmental, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, UNESCO, explains in its World Heritage listing that Lake Malawi National Park “is of global importance for biodiversity conservation, due particularly to its fish diversity.” UNESCO goes on to say: “The property is an area of exceptional natural beauty with the rugged landscapes around it contrasting with the remarkably clear waters of the lake.” Which is “home to many hundreds of cichlid fish, nearly all of which are endemic to Lake Malawi.” When a species is endemic it means that it occurs in that location and nowhere else in the world. But the official protection this unique area has enjoyed for forty years is now in danger of being removed. Another big business and corrupt officials destroying the planet for personal greed. Must be stopped, politicians are blind to these issues due to their own thirst for power and desire to get their nose in the trough, only mass protest by those with social conscience will have any impact. We need to mobilise through social media and get these armpits of humanity back into the sewers.

Short term gain and greed by people who don’t even live in Malawi for environmental destruction for the locals who do. Shame on the politicians who sanctioned this - why not try and actually stop this and take a stand.

PLEASE STOP IMMEDIATELY this destructive development project cannot be considered progress! There are feasible alternative sites outside the World Heritage area and a win-win solution is still possible.
•

There is clearly a strong case to intervene and prevent this habitat destruction. Once lost it will never be replaced. Worrying that a World Heritage Site is being damaged in this way. Please support this campaign.

This action is a misplaced action that does not evaluate alternatives with lower impacts on climate, environment and communities. Decision makers need to be better educated in integrated physical planning principles. Joined up thinking is needed not silo thinking.

It is critical that the International community mobilize support for an alternate site for the water needs of the people adjacent to Lake Malawi National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It would be tragic to lose the World Heritage Status to the first Freshwater National Park in the World which add tremendous prestige to the nation of Malaw as well is a tremendous tourist attraction.
