Hi folks. Happy Tuesday! Huge news for us this month! It’s been quite the journey to get here. We’re excited to announce our first purchases and initial batch of incredible CDR partners we’re working with in our Carbon Removal Portfolio. We've curated a highly durable, additional and verifiable blend of solutions from a leading range of orgs doing amazing work to make permanent carbon removal more accessible to individuals and companies who want to help decarbonize the world. It's truly inspiring to work with leading and emerging project developers racing to scale as-permanent-as-possible carbon removal in the voluntary carbon markets.Lots to do, no time to waste. Combined with deep global emissions reductions, CDR is a key tool on our path to tackle the Climate Crisis. It's what the science shows us we need to do. Everyone is welcome to join our existing members from the US, UK, Australia, France, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and Spain in investing in durable carbon removal simply and transparently. https://zopeful.com/blog/carbon-removal-portfolio-announcement

Zopeful are running a Black Friday campaign all about the embodied - aka hidden - planet heating emissions in our everyday stuff. We didn’t choose for them to be there, but they definitely are! This year they’re focused on tech, food, travel and clothes that account for about 50% of the emissions we need to reduce and remove to slow, then reverse, climate change. They’ve broken down typical amounts of baked-in carbon in each category and made it possible to use high quality solutions to remove them through their ready-made Carbon Removal Portfolio. Website: https://zopeful.com/black-friday-carbon-removal-2022 Article/backstory: https://zopeful.com/blog/alternative-black-friday-2022-carbon-removal-and-embodied-hidden-emissions Have hope, make progress 💚

Hey all. Zopeful are exploring opinions + attitudes in the workplace around company climate awareness, policies and employee engagement where you currently work. We're aiming to get a few thousand completes, ideally with a nice geo mix to be able to draw some comparisons. Will share the results openly. It's open until mid-November and we'll aim to publish the results before the end of the year. The wider representation we get on this the better. I don't expressly ask often, but if you see this post, please like + share! We'd love you to have your say! It takes about 7mins👇 🔗 https://research.typeform.com/to/BrmXOLgi Thanks 💚

Hey all Happy Monday! Bit of a self-plug that we launched our new CDR course now! It's a free 3-day jump into everything carbon removal. It shows how it fits in and compliments the bigger goal of tackling climate change, and why now is the time to invest in it. It’s a great starter-for-10 on all things carbon removal. How it’s crucially different to offsetting, why we need it and where it fits in. It's everything you need to know about CDR in 10 minute easy-to-read bursts. Day 1 - Why is carbon removal important & its role Day 2 - What is (& isn't) carbon removal Day 3 - Growing CDR + how to remove your carbon 🔗 https://zopeful.com/course/carbon-removal-online-introduction It starts every Monday. If you or someone you know would like to join, we’d love to have you with us. While fear, anxiety and denial are legitimate reactions/emotions to the size of the challenge, we choose hope. Combined with making progress step-by-step. Big or small, it all matters. Both the challenge, as well as the opportunity, demand we are impatiently audacious. And to keep going. Have a good week 💚

The potential of carbon removal and management (when scaled alongside decarbonization) is pretty exciting, right? If you’ve been following Zopeful you’ll know we’re big fans of the potential of carbon removal solutions. It’s an exciting space with huge promise to be an important tool. One we are going to need. The recent announcements have added even more hope and focus to the potential they offer. It's a hot topic that's only getting hotter! It’s important to say that they’re not the whole answer to the challenge of climate change. It's not a silver bullet on its own. When combined with sustained reductions, Carbon Removal will become a key part of our collective efforts over the next few years and beyond. While the bulk of tackling human-caused climate change needs to come from decarbonizing most of what we do, use, buy and sell; in all scenarios that keep warming to 2 degrees celsius or less we’re going to also need to remove a load of carbon from the atmosphere. It’s what the science shows us we need to do. As a group of methods and technologies to pull out and store emissions for as long as possible, Carbon Removal offers a huge potential for us to manage the level of carbon dioxide, and limit climate change in line with the safer zone of 1.5 to 2 degree Celsius average temperature rise. We’re going to need something like 5 to 10 billion tonnes of carbon removal per year by 2050 to do this. At present we’re in the tens of thousands of tonnes per year. We’ve a long way to go and no time to waste. The inspiring news is we can do it. That’s the truth. So what’s next? At present the majority of offsets and credits you can buy - whether a company or individual - will be avoidance of emissions. We’ve talked about this before, so we won’t go too deep here. They’re often low cost and equally of low quality and effectiveness. This is going to change as we further develop, deploy and scale a range of carbon removal solutions. While carbon removal is more expensive than avoidance offsets, removal solutions actually work in the way we need. Whether nature-based, tech-enabled or fully tech based there’s full suite of options emerging that offer great permanence, durability, additionality as well as many with biodiversity and wider co-benefits. We’re excited to show you some new things, all about Carbon Removal, that we’ve been working on. We’d love you to join us in digging deeper and supporting this crucial emerging set of solutions that work to genuinely remove carbon and store it away, where it can’t contribute to heating the planet for hundreds or thousands of years. More details coming soon. Join now and you’ll be among the first to know. Thanks! 🔗 https://zopeful.com/carbon-removal Have hope, make progress 💚

Do you wonder what the difference is between Net Zero, Carbon Neutral, Carbon Negative & Climate Positive? Us too, so we wrote this! It's woolly and a bit murky out there. Definitions and terminology are meant to help add clarity, though for climate it still feels like we're still figuring it out (with lots of examples of misuse!). So we wrote this short article - it doesn't have all the answers though maybe helps clear up the main one's: https://zopeful.com/blog/what-is-the-difference-between-net-zero-carbon-neutral-carbon-negative-climate-positive As always, up for the discussion, feel free to drop questions or thoughts 😃

Hey all. Happy Monday! There's going to be more things going on this week with Zopeful. It's all about the difference between carbon removal vs avoidance offsets, embodied carbon and rules of thumb for it in stuff we buy, use and do. Primarily it's about awareness and education on how we all have every day impact. Would be delighted for any and all support anyone felt comfortable with. Here's a tweet: https://twitter.com/zopeful_hq/status/1462731653030322178?s=20, but also straight to the site here: https://zopeful.com/black-friday-2021 Let me know what you think! Thanks 💚

Hello again. I'm excited about this one as it combines my long standing love of culture development, growing healthily while building 21st century ready orgs in highly uncertain & rapidly changing environments. I sure I don't need to say that companies are key players in decarbonizing our world. It's easier for leaders + employees to start on the path than you'd think, and doesn't cost the earth. We've designed this course as an overview of the current state of The Climate Crisis with steps that will help you build a climate positive company regardless of your company size and industry. It's not hard to start, making progress and moving one step at a time. Jumpstart your Climate Company with hope and incremental progress. The advantages will compound over time. It's going to be a short 3-day crash course in digestible 5-10 minute bursts per day. It covers: Day 1 - Climate science for companies Day 2 - Climate advantage for companies Day 3 - Climate roadmap for companies It's launching in November. Pre-registration is open now. Hey everyone Happy Friday 🎉 Climate focus + carbon reduction is a competitive advantage for 21st century companies. I'm sure I don't need to say to folks here that the Climate Crisis is not only the greatest challenge humanity has ever collectively faced, for businesses of all sizes it also upends any notion of BAU without building in the true cost of all the previously unvalued — or undervalued — “externalities”. Whether you're at a large or growing org it's best to get in front of it, as it's going to be ever present (& increasingly so) from here on out... A lot of carbon is already baked into the products that consumers buy and it’s not transparent what impact that’s having. Companies have a scale and global reach that neither individuals nor national governments have. We all have our own role to play whether big like companies and governments or collectively big like all us consumers who make every day choices. I wrote a few quick thoughts on how companies can start, improve or speed up their efforts here: https://acharles-writer.medium.com/climate-is-a-competitive-advantage-for-companies-39e1372cb486 What do you think?

Hi all Happy Wednesday! How did everyone feel about the recent IPCC Report released in August? We thought it was quite a chunky read so broke it down into a 4-day digestible email course, each about 5-10 minutes to read. If it sounds interesting there's a few more details here: https://www.zopeful.com/code-red-for-humanity-holding-page As I'd imagine this group doesn't need to get the fundamentals, drop me a note and I can send you a link to sign-up for Code Red directly. (This is because we'd ideally like those new to the space to go through Intro to Climate as it sets the scene to build up to more sciencey stuff in Code Red). Have a good rest of your week :) Adam
