TotalEnergies is sponsoring Africa’s biggest sports tournament, AFCON. They pretend to care about football and Africa, while deepening the climate crisis and impoverishing thousands of Africans with their fossil fuel projects. THEY SHOULD STOP GREENWASHING. All of us in Africa are not blind, perhaps TotalEnergies presume we are blind. And if indeed we can see and perceive the pertinent detriments and inevitable danger to planetary life, then LET'S SPEAK UP AND OUT 🗣️🗣️🗣️. SYMPHONY OF VOICES WILL INDEED COMPEL ACTIONS. AT LEAST NATURE WILL RECORD THAT WE DID SOMETHING FOR HER WITHIN OUR CAPACITY. Here is a YouTube video from Green Peace Africa 💚 telling TotalEnergies the truth in the ground. https://youtu.be/ZYVewM3Ogrs?si=m_8w_yL33U9vzFzq

https://apnews.com/article/uganda-totalenergies-pipeline-project-graves-disturbed-318723513b6a424260534d9242dbb1f9 The French oil company TotalEnergies is failing to protect the sanctity of hundreds of graves in a controversial project that aims to build a heated pipeline from oil fields in Uganda to a port in Tanzania, according to a report by a New York-based climate watchdog. In a report released Thursday, GreenFaith charges that TotalEnergies “has consistently failed to respect local customs and traditions related to the treatment of graves,” distressing local communities in the East African nations of Uganda and Tanzania. The report is the latest effort by a growing list of campaigners who urge TotalEnergies and its partners — China National Offshore Oil Corporation and the governments of Uganda and Tanzania — to cancel the project. As the majority shareholder, TotalEnergies has long faced legal pressure from activists who say the nearly 1,500-kilometer (900-mile) pipeline project undermines the Paris climate accord.

TotalEnergies, a French oil and gas major, has announced a shift in strategy by planning to increase fossil fuel production in the next five years. This marks a change from previous years when the company was reducing its output. From 2019 to 2022, TotalEnergies experienced a continuous decline in its oil and gas production. The company had previously refrained from providing specific forecasts for production changes, maintaining that it would remain stable by the end of the decade. https://www.news24.com/fin24/climate_future/energy/totalenergies-to-raise-fossil-fuel-production-20230928

French energy giant TotalEnergies is set to invest $300 million in a 50-50 joint venture with Adani Green Energy to produce solar and wind power in India. This marks TotalEnergies' first partnership with the Adani Group since allegations of financial irregularities led to a significant stock sell-off. The new entity is poised to generate 1,050 megawatts of power, a substantial contribution to India's renewable energy landscape. Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani emphasized that Total Energies' new investment will bolster Adani Green Energy Limited's pivotal role in India's journey towards decarbonization. The Adani Group aims to achieve a remarkable 45 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030. Total Energies had already acquired a 20% stake in Adani Green Energy in 2021 for $2 billion, highlighting its commitment to India's green energy transition. Their engagement with the Adani Group extends to various sectors, including its investment in Adani Gas (later renamed Adani Total Gas) and plans to invest $70 billion over the next decade in green energy ventures, aligning with the Indian government's efforts to reduce fossil fuel dependence. Total Energies previously agreed to buy a 25% stake in Adani New Industries for green hydrogen manufacturing, the company's CEO, Patrick Pouyanne, recently distanced the firm from the deal, awaiting the results of an audit regarding allegations made by short-seller Hindenburg Research. Overall, this joint venture signifies Total Energies' active participation in India's growing renewable power market and Adani Green Energy's ambition to lead the nation's renewable energy sector, marking a significant step towards a sustainable energy future. https://asia.nikkei.com/Business/Companies/Adani-Group/TotalEnergies-invests-300m-in-green-power-JV-with-Adani-Group

Shell, BP, Total Energies: Oil companies invested only a fraction of their money in renewable energies in 2022 Despite record profits, oil companies only invested a fraction in renewable energies in 2022 Despite the climate crisis, oil multinationals continue to invest heavily in fossil projects, as a new Greenpeace study shows. According to the environmental organization, the corporations are "steering the world deeper into the crisis". The environmental organization Greenpeace has accused the large European energy companies of slowing down progress in climate protection. A study commissioned by the environmental organization found that almost 93 percent of the investments made by the twelve oil and gas companies in 2022 went into fossil projects. Only around seven percent of the investments went into renewable energies. The Energy Comment study evaluated the annual reports of BP, Total Energies, Shell, Wintershall Dea and other corporations. "Oil multinationals like Shell and BP are largely to blame for today's climate crisis, and they are abusing their record profits to steer the world deeper into this crisis," said Lisa Göldner of Greenpeace. The results also showed that renewables “had a tiny share of the energy production of the twelve companies last year” at 0.3 percent. At the same time, according to Greenpeace, the companies were able to increase their profits by 75 percent. "These companies talk a lot about becoming climate-neutral by 2050, but not a single one of them has a plausible strategy for achieving this goal," said Göldner. Instead of relying on renewables or producing green hydrogen, the companies tried to "continue to make money with their dirty business". This slows down the energy transition and exacerbates the climate crisis. Shell, BP, Exxon: Oil multinationals are apparently cashing in on their climate targets. The British newspaper "Guardian" recently reported that oil multinationals have conceded their climate targets. The newspaper reported that BP had significantly revised its original target of reducing CO₂ emissions by 35 percent by 2030. Instead, only 20 to 30 percent minus should be achieved. ExxonMobil has stopped funding a prestigious project to produce low-carbon fuels from algae. Instead, CEO Darren Woods recently announced at a conference that he wants US shale oil fields to be produced within the next five years When asked, Shell said the strategy to become a zero-emission energy company by 2050 remains in place. It plans to invest between $10 billion and $15 billion between 2023 and 2025 to support further development of low-carbon energy solutions such as biofuels, hydrogen, e-mobility and carbon sequestration (CCS). However, it is assumed "that global energy demand will continue to rise and will be covered by various energy sources, including oil and gas," according to a Shell spokesman. BP said the study misrepresented the company's strategy and investments. The report's claim that 97 percent of investment goes into fossil fuels was wrong. In 2022, 30 percent of bp's investments -- nearly $5 billion -- went into non-fossil fuel businesses. These include the takeover of the large US biogas company Archaea. "Greenpeace's analysis appears to classify these investments as fossil fuel investments - that's just plain wrong," a spokeswoman said. Greenpeace called on the governments of Germany and other European countries to regulate the oil business more strictly and thus speed up the switch to renewable energies. https://www.spiegel.de/wirtschaft/soziales/shell-bp-total-energies-oelkonzerne-investierten-2022-nur-einen-bruchteil-ihres-geldes-in-erneuerbare-energien-a-5efbfb16-c272-4748-be06-381cfdc56198?xing_share=news#ref=rss

A planned oil pipeline to help Uganda export its crude to international markets has “devastated” the lives of thousands of people who have experienced delayed or inadequate compensation for their land, Human Rights Watch (HRW) said on Monday. The rights group also said the project, in which TotalEnergies has a 62 percent stake, is a disaster for the planet as it will add emissions that exacerbate climate change. French oil major TotalEnergies (TTEF.PA) has sued environmental group Greenpeace France and climate consulting firm Factor-X over a report claiming the company massively underestimated its 2019 greenhouse gas emissions, Total said on Wednesday. The civil complaint, served on April 28, seeks a ruling that the November publication contains "false and misleading information," a judicial order to withdraw the publication and cease all references to it under penalty of 2000 euros in fines per day, plus 1 symbolic euro in damages. A first procedural hearing will take place on Sept. 7 at the Paris judicial court to set a calendar for arguments, though it will be several months before a judge begins to rule on the merits of the case. Greenpeace and Factor X accused the oil major of having emitted about 1.64 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent in 2019 but only disclosing 455 million tonnes in public statements. TotalEnergies countered that the report double-counted emissions by knowingly using dubious methodologies, which were morally prejudicial to the listed company. "This is a question of principle, and a judgment from the court will not prevent Greenpeace from continuing to criticize us and our climate strategy if they wish, but will remind them that public debate on issues with such high stakes concerning a listed company require rigor and good faith," a TotalEnergies spokesperson said. The TotalEnergies spokesperson added that the company's main goal was to have the court recognize the knowingly false nature of the report, since the Factor-X firm behind the math presents itself as an expert in the field of carbon emissions accounting. 2 minute readMay 3, 20239:40 PM GMT+3Last Updated 13 hours ago TotalEnergies sues Greenpeace over emissions report By America Hernandez The logo of French energy group TotalEnergies is seen at a petrol station in Bugnicourt, France The logo of French energy group TotalEnergies is seen at a petrol station in Bugnicourt, France, October 8, 2022. French oil major TotalEnergies (TTEF.PA) on Friday urged shareholders to reject an AGM resolution seeking accelerated cuts under the French oil major's greenhouse gas emission reduction programme. The resolution was submitted to the May 26 annual meeting AGM by climate activist group Follow This alongside a group of investors with $1.1 trillion in assets under management. It asks the company to submit to absolute emissions cuts by 2030, and to include in that promise the Scope 3 emissions created post-sale when the fuels are eventually burned by customers, such as in planes or cars. "The implementation of this strategy would be bad for shareholders as the company would have to sell its oil and gas product marketing activities to other operators," TotalEnergies said on Friday in its response. "Without an evolution of the overall structure of energy demand, (this) would lead to a shift of this demand to other suppliers, notably the national oil companies of producing countries ... and therefore no positive impact on the climate." TotalEnergies has previously said its emissions will not register a big reduction by 2030 in absolute terms. The company will instead urge investors to approve its own climate plan, covering more modest emissions cuts at its own facilities. Follow This has filed similar resolutions to the AGMs of BP (BP.L), Chevron (CVX.N), Exxon Mobil (XOM.N) and Shell (SHEL.L). BP shareholders rejected that resolution on Thursday, though it garnered 16.75% of votes. Shell has recommended a vote against at its general assembly next month.

A group of investors with $1.1tn in assets under management has joined climate activist group Follow This in asking TotalEnergies shareholders to push for more ambitious targets on emissions cuts. The resolution filed for the company’s May 26 annual general meeting mirrors others which Follow This has filed for coming shareholder meetings at rival energy majors BP, Chevron, ExxonMobil, and Shell. “To achieve the goal of (the) Paris (climate deal), the world has to almost halve emissions by 2030, but TotalEnergies has no plan to drive down emissions this decade,” Follow This founder Mark van Baal said. “These climate resolutions at Big Oil will show which investors are serious about resolving the climate crisis and which prefer to just talk about it.” The investor group co-filing the latest resolution represents 1.5 per cent of TotalEnergies’ shares. Follow This wants the companies to commit to absolute emissions cuts by 2030, rather than intensity-based targets, including Scope 3 emissions from the combustion of the fuels they sell. Measuring emissions by intensity means a company can technically increase its fossil fuel output and overall emissions while using offsets or adding renewable energy or biofuels to its product mix. TotalEnergies has said its emissions will not register a big reduction by 2030 in absolute terms. Scientists say the world needs to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 43 per cent from 2019 levels by 2030 to have any hope of meeting the Paris Agreement goal of keeping warming below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. BP and Shell have already recommended that its shareholders vote against the Follow This resolutions. The last time TotalEnergies shareholders voted on a Follow This resolution, in 2020, the activists received 17 per cent of the votes. TotalEnergies’ climate strategy was approved by about 90 per cent of shareholder votes in 2021 and 2022. Follow This resolutions at other oil majors last year received between 15 per cent and 33 per cent of the votes. https://eandt.theiet.org/content/articles/2023/04/totalenergies-pressed-on-climate-targets-as-investors-join-activists/

In 2021, Total signed an agreement with Uganda and Tanzania to start building the $3.5 billion, 1,443-kilometre pipeline alongside the state-owned China National Offshore Oil Corporation and Uganda National Oil Company. It will transport crude oil from the Tilenga oilfields being developed in north-western Uganda to a Tanzanian port on the Indian Ocean. The project has proved hugely controversial for its contribution to climate change and the impacts on people living along its path. Research by the US-based Climate Accountability Institute concluded it would emit 379 million tonnes of carbon over its 25-year lifespan – much more than laid out in the project’s environmental impact statements, which only account for the pipeline’s direct construction and operation. In a resolution last year, the European Parliament expressed “grave concern” about alleged human rights violations in Uganda and Tanzania, linked to the project. And Ugandan protestors concerned about its impact on the local environment, displacement of communities and the lack of benefits accruing to Uganda have accused police of brutality towards them. https://www.climatechangenews.com/2023/02/28/total-escapes-court-censure-over-east-african-oil-pipeline/

I would like to invite Total Energies to tell us what are their plans for cutting emissions before the year 2030. As we move towards more renewable energy, as oil production giants it's imperative you show us your plans as we race to save our planet and to net zero. Total Energies and other energy production companies like Shell, Gazprom and China National petroleum company should be at the forefront to offset carbon emissions otherwise what others do if not backed by such players, it won't make much difference.

Total and Forêt Ressources Management have signed a partnership agreement with the Republic of the Congo to plant a 40,000-hectare forest on the Batéké Plateaux. The new forest will create a carbon sink that will sequester more than 10 million tons of CO2 over 20 years, to be certified in accordance with the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and Climate, Community & Biodiversity (CCB) standards. The project, financed by Total, includes agroforestry practices developed with the local communities for agricultural production and sustainable wood energy. By 2040, responsible management through selective cutting (treatment of forests which aims to imitate nature by mixing together several species of different age) will promote the natural regeneration of local species and provide Brazzaville and Kinshasa with lumber and plywood. “With this project on the Batéké Plateaux, Total is committing to the development of natural carbon sinks in Africa. These activities build on the priority initiatives taken by the Group to avoid and reduce emissions, in line with its ambition to get to net zero by 2050. They will also help to showcase the Congo’s natural potential and to extend our long-term partnership with the country, where we have been present for fifty years, " said Nicolas Terraz, Senior Vice President Africa, Exploration & Production at Total. “We want to develop these projects with recognized partners, such as FRM, who have a great deal to teach us, while concerting with relevant regions to anchor our commitment in the long term and contribute to local development,” added Adrien Henry, Vice President Nature Based Solutions at Total. The project is designed to produce multiple social, economic and environmental benefits. The planting of Acacia mangium and auriculiformis trees on sandy plateaux exposed to recurring bushfires will create a forest environment that will ultimately help broaden the ecosystems’ biodiversity. The project will create employment opportunities, with a positive impact on several thousand people. In addition, a local development fund will support health, nutritional and educational initiatives to benefit neighboring villages. “The more than 10 million hectares of land reserves on the Congo’s Batéké Plateaux offer a fantastic way to combat climate change at the global level and a unique opportunity for sustainable socio-economic development in isolated regions of the country,” noted Bernard Cassagne, Chairman and CEO of Forêt Ressources Management. “This ambitious and exemplary project is part of PRONAR, the national afforestation/reforestation program launched in 2011 to expand the country’s forest cover and increase carbon storage capacity, create new wood-based businesses to diversify the national economy, and foster the emergence of a green economy in the Republic of the Congo,” concluded Rosalie Matondo, Minister of the Forest Economy of the Republic of the Congo. https://totalenergies.com/media/news/press-releases/total-and-frm-to-plant-forest-in-congo

In 2023 we need to make big steps towards net zero emissions. One hindrance that we're facing as climate champions, is the bank rollers of fossil fuel drilling. This is a warning to banks, organizations and investors planning on throwing money at oil drills in hope of making a quick buck. The world does not rotate around money and certainly not around your little dystopian world where you make us all go extinct for an extra dollar in your pocket. STOP FOSSIL FUEL FUNDING In this year, let us all make a commitment to cut on fossil fuel drilling.

Farmers living in the Republic of the Congo say that they have been barred from accessing their land so that the French oil giant Total Energies and the Congolese government can use it for a high-profile carbon offsetting project to plant 40 million trees in the next decade. According to an investigation shared exclusively with Sky News by Greenpeace UK Unearthed and the Source Material investigative group, the project on the Lefini land reserve in the Bateke Plateau appears to have come at a significant cost to an estimated 400 farmers and their families. In interviews with a SourceMaterial journalist, several farmers said that since planting began in November last year, they have been blocked from their lands without consultation or payment. "In the fields, the white man has bought the lands, and we can no longer work our fields. And the people who have sold our land now forbid us to go there." Clarisse Louba Parfaite said: "Now, if you are seen with your tractors, you are chased away. "The crops that we had planted inside, in the middle of the fields, not harvested to date, they refuse to allow our tractors to come and do the work. "It's to kill us, to send us back to being slaves again like in the past." It's left some worried about feeding their children. Olivier Calver Ngouba said: "In the village, I am accused of having sold the ancestral lands, when it is not the case. When [Forest Economy] Minister Rosalie Matondo came, she never consulted before. She arrived with her delegation saying that she came to pay us 'a symbolic franc'. "We told her that since the dawn of time, we never sold our land, even our ancestors did not do it. She replied that it is the state that has recovered these lands." Documents show that affected residents apparently had little control over what was happening to them. By the time some had accepted money to give up their lands the government had already changed the law, more than a year earlier, to become the private owner of the Lefini reserve. That land was then quickly subleased via a French forestry consultancy called Forest Resources Management (FRM) to Total Energies, with reassurances from the government that anyone else trying to use it would be evicted. Farmers need to be consulted in the decision making process. Unfortunately, this happened multiple times in history: before to set up industries, now to offset their emissions.

The fossil fuel industry continues to profit from the demise of our planet's health. The latest Guardian article highlights this discrepancy better than ever. We are close to irreversible tipping points and 1.5-degree temperature warming, yet the fossil fuel industry is expected to amass $4tn in 2022. We need to call on the fossil fuel sector to transition. These profits can still save our climate. But, as Dr. Rockstrom says, "time is really running out very, very fast”. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/oct/27/world-close-to-irreversible-climate-breakdown-warn-major-studies?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other .

After Uganda, Tanzania and Canada, Total is preparing a climate bomb that will ravage the ocean, marine animals and the resources of local populations in South Africa. On September 5, 2022, Total applied for a production license to operate two huge gas fields buried more than 1,000 meters deep off the coast of South Africa, in an area with exceptionally rich and diverse marine life. In defiance of the climate emergency, and recommendations from the IEA, TotalEnergies is preparing to invest at least three billion dollars to launch drilling operations in South African waters and extract one billion barrels of oil and gas. YES, ONE BILLION BARRELS. The waters of South Africa are home to exceptional biodiversity and form a “blue corridor” for multiple species: whales migrate there by the thousands. Leatherback turtles, the world's largest endangered sea turtles, lay their eggs on South African beaches. Sea lions, penguins, albatrosses, petrels, cormorants and Cape boobies: you will destroy this entire ecosystem and with it a local economy and thousands of small-scale fishermen. While pretending to be a renewable energy frontrunner. To destroy the ocean is to condemn us collectively. Don't let it happen, sign here: https://ocean-total-destruction.bloomassociation.org/

Crude oil producers such as Total wouldn't commit to STOP fossil fuel production unless a clear international policy is superimposed. Let's send a strong message to the upcoming #COP27 in Sharm El-Shiekh, Egypt.

I understand if they put high taxes on these companies, manufacturing of products with this product will be expensive and hence the out come products making it difficult for them to get clients to buy their products........that way mother nature will be saved from massive destruction every where in the world....

A Siberian gas field part-owned by TotalEnergies, the French oil company, regularly supplies a refinery producing jet fuel for Russian warplanes, an investigation by Global Witness and Le Monde can reveal. https://www.globalwitness.org/en/campaigns/stop-russian-oil/total-russian-jet-fuel/?utm_source=hootsuite&utm_medium=twitter_

TotalEnergies signed a partnership deal with QatarEnergy on Sunday for the North Field East expansion of the world's largest liquefied natural gas project. Total will have the highest stake "owning" 25% of one train - or liquefaction and purification facility. According to Reuters, Exxon Mobil, Shell, ConocoPhillips, and Eni will also participate in the North Field expansion. Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies, celebrates this as a "historic day", and I couldn't agree more: this is indeed a historic day. A historic day for climate chaos. As a reminder, gas production must decrease by 3% per year to limit global warming to 1.5°C. As for liquefied natural gas, its carbon footprint is at least 20% larger than coal. This is indeed a historic day for climate chaos. Read more: https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/qatarenergy-says-will-announce-more-partners-coming-days-gas-field-expansion-2022-06-12/

These are not the kind of partnerships we currently need, we need to form partnerships that will help realize the 17 sustainable goals by 2030. The kind of partnerships total energies is having with Qatar energies are destructive to the planet and should be condemned.

Building the biggest heated oil in the world is expensive work . Fortunately Total and CNOOC can't do it alone. They need support from investors ,banks and insurance firms around the world. Its our job to highlight the risks ,crank up the pressure in boardroom and make sure EACOP is starved of the corporate and political support it needs. Not only will EACOP devastate communities, endanger wildlife and cook the planet, but also it is economically reckless. The future of East Africa relies on building sustainable diversified and inclusive economies. Not by letting huge multinational corporations extract resources and keep the profit. The whole world is waking up to the fact that we need to stop burning fossil fuels. For Climate; EACOP will fuel climate change by enabling the extraction of oil which will generate over 34 million tons carbon (iv)oxide emissions every single year.To stop the climate crisis, we must stop building new fossil fuel projects. For nature; EACOP will rip through some of the world's most important animals nature reserves. There's also concern that the pipeline will open up more critical ecosystems to even more extraction. For people; EACOP threatens to displace thousands of families and farmers from their land and has already disrupted the livelihoods of many. If allowed to move forward,it will also place at risk vital water resources that millons of people rely upon for drinking and food production. #STOPEACOP

The EACOP must be stopped! Companies like Total are just exporting the climate crisis to other countries and selling their projects as "development" and growth when it will just destroy ecosystems and life
•

There's this one pain every living organism feel when biodiversity is lost and instead of the organisations and banks thinking of it,they are actually thinking of making profit, not even thinking of the future .....it's sad but they have to stop the funding.

Yeah total energies should stop the construction of oil pipelines in Africa. The EACOP oil project pipeline project that will cover 1443km sq from uganda to Tanzania has resulted to massive displacement of people not to mention the effect it will have to the environment

Such a complete misinvestment! Solar, wind and geothermal energy is plentiful in Africa and should be built instead of fossil fuel

Great to see Magamba TV call out Total Energies for using football event as a shield as they continue to harm the environment. This is greenwashing at it worst and must be dealt with entirely, Total Energies must sought to transition to production of clean energy.
