Greenhouse gas emissions are a major issue in the current climate crisis. Greenhouse gases consist of molecules that absorb infrared radiation and contribute to warming up the atmosphere and our planet. As this has far-reaching consequences, it is essential to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases we emit into the air. To this end, companies often set net zero emission goals by a certain year. This means they aim at removing as much CO2 from the atmosphere as they added. ❗ CLIMATE REPORT REVEALS SCOPE 3 AS MAIN HURDLE ❗ The climate strategies of 15 out of 24 global companies that have put themselves forward as climate leaders were found to have low or very low integrity – according to the new Corporate Climate Responsibility Monitor 2023 from the New Climate Institute. The main reasons for the bad ratings are: 🚫 ambiguous net-zero pledges 🚫 over-reliance on offsetting 🚫 targets that address only a limited scope of emission sources The last point is particularly critical, considering that Scope 3 emissions account for over 90% of the GHG emission footprints for most of the assessed companies. 👉 So what can we learn from the report? Some of the companies evaluated are already implementing #BestPractices that could help turn the tide quickly. These include: ✅ Deep decarbonization commitments – Holcim, H&M Group, Maersk, Stellantis, and ThyssenKrupp explicitly commit to reduce emissions by at least around 90% across the entire value chain next to their net-zero pledges. ✅ Emissions breakdown – Apple, Microsoft, Holcim, Maersk and Inditex provide a breakdown of emissions for each emissions scope, which allows for an understanding of emission sources. 💥 LANDMARK STEP IN EU CLIMATE POLICY 💥 As part of its "Fit for 55 package", the EU has agreed on the new Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism – short #CBAM – that will enter force in October 2023. Have you already heard of it? Don’t worry. Here is what you need to know. 🤔 What is the CBAM? CBAM is designed to align the carbon price of imported goods with the price of carbon certificates that European companies must purchase for their products under the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (#ETS). Companies importing into the EU will be required to purchase CBAM certificates to make up the difference between the carbon price paid in the country of production and the higher price of carbon certificates in the EU ETS. 🚀 Why is this Big News? Not only will the unprecedented law create new incentives for non-EU countries to increase their climate ambitions. It will also be the very first carbon pricing framework to address #Scope3Emissions, that is, indirect emissions in a company’s value chain. To date, those Scope 3 emissions aren’t directly priced. CBAM will change that and charge many EU importers for the first time a carbon price on their Scope 3 emissions. 🙌 This is just another example of the increasing focus on decarbonizing the supply chain. 1. The youth should become informed about climate change and its causes. They should educate themselves on the science behind climate change and the potential impacts it could have on their lives and the lives of others. 2. The youth should also take action to reduce their own carbon footprint. This can include simple things such as reducing energy use, using public transportation, and reducing food waste. 3. The youth should also get involved in their local communities and advocate for climate change policies. They can join local environmental organizations or start their own initiatives to raise awareness about the issue. 4. Lastly, the youth should spread the word about climate change to their peers and family members. They can use social media to reach out to others and share information about climate change and how to reduce its impacts. By doing this, they can help create a larger movement of people who are committed to fighting climate change.

A lot has happened since the first version: Unsurprisingly, climate tech is on the rise. What is new? 70 new players emerged on the map, especially in energy A total of $7.5 billion in VC money is covered 54% VC increase in #energy ⚡ Numerous new startups have joined. The overview done by hy – the Axel Springer Consulting Group includes now almost 300 startups, in a total of 6 categories. 🌱 Switch of top runners. Energy startups have now passed e-cars, battery solutions, etc. and make up 25%. 📍 Berlin is (still) the Climate Tech capital (97 of all start-ups) - but this could change in the future because Bavaria (65 of all start-ups) is catching up. Which companies are on the Climate Tech Map? 🌳 The company is active in the Climate Tech area in the areas of Banking & Insurance, Buildings, Carbon Tech, Energy, Food & Land & Water, Industry & Manufacturing or Mobility & Transportation. 🇬🇧 The company's headquarters are in Germany. 🚀 The company was founded in 2015 or later. 💰 The company has funding (equity/debt). 💡For sure many more companies fit not in these boxes. Many companies have set goals to reach net-zero emissions by a certain year. But having a goal doesn't mean we automatically have a clear roadmap on how to reach this goal. Just like choosing Rome as final destination doesn't mean we know which road to take and where to turn left or right. Many companies set goals, but their strategies to reduce CO2 emissions remain vague. This is because it can be challenging to determine how CO2 emissions can be reduced in an effective and economically viable way while abiding to laws and keeping future goals in mind. To make it easier to become more precise and determine an effective CO2 reduction strategy, it is helpful for companies to find answers to these seven questions: 1. Is the terminology clear? What exactly are we reducing? 2. What is our optimization variable? Which variable is most important? 3. What is our level of ambition? How much reduction do we want to achieve? 4. What is our area of observation? To what parts of the company do these goals apply? 5. What are our motivations and needs? Why are we doing this? 6. What are our priorities? 7. What is the status quo? Where are we now? 📣 SUSTAINABILITY'S 12 EFRAG has published the final drafts of the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (#ESRS) and handed them over to the European Commission. Based on the results, this is what you need to know for staring fresh into your sustainability work: 💡 The update shows major differences to the last version of April in: Better comparability to existing standards, reduced disclosure requirements and a clear definition of double materiality. 🌍 The package presents now 12 cross-sector sustainability standards - specified in general, environmental, social, and governance. 📣 The first companies will have to apply the standards in 2024. SMEs are obliged to report from 2026, with separate standards that EFRAG will develop next year. Plus, BIG news: Reporting on ESRS E1 "Climate Change" becomes mandatory for all companies, regardless of the results of the materiality analysis! 🌍 OVERLOOKED CLIMATE RISKS Climate change is continuously disrupting supply chains. We appreciate the invitation to the COP 27 at MKU,,,,this is my idea after the talk;the largest group in the community tends to be the youths,,the most energetic and skilled too.All we need is a hand to lead and support us ,,in order to work on having a good environment that is going to bring in good climate:(eg tree planting)some of the youths have great certificates that can help the community but lack of support is leading to their failure due to disappointment.mobilise us and use us in making the country better,,, y'all should be depending on us and not the opposite.. TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE IT! Cleaning the streets and coming up with more creative ways of having cheap and affordable energy and many more projects can best be extracted from the youths .

Semi arid and arid areas have been characterised by unpredictable weather,long periods of dry seasons and inconsistent rainfall..my community has benefited from the well wishers who have come along to help curb the harshness of climate change...by drilling boreholes within the community whereby people are using the borehole water to grow crops..such as vegetables,maize and by this they are happy and able to support their families.
