The recent discovery of E. coli in the water serves as a stark reminder of the environmental hazards threatening our waterways. Boat race organisers' caution underscores the urgent need to address water pollution and protect public health. The presence of E. coli shows the critical state of our water bodies, jeopardizing recreational activities and posing risks to human well-being. This alarming revelation should lead to improving water quality, strengthening environmental regulations, and safeguarding our precious natural resources. Let's heed this warning, advocate for policies that prioritize water conservation and pollution prevention, and work together to ensure clean and safe water for all. Our collective voices today will shape a healthier and more sustainable future. Thames Water has committed an environmental crime by pumping at least 72bn litres of sewage into river Thame since 2020. Last year 14.3bn litres of sewage were discharged into the river while in 2021 which was the worst year on the record 32bn litres of sewage were discharged into the Thames. The crime has led to destruction of river Thame and wildlife habitats as risking the lives of the people depending on the waters from Thames. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/nov/10/thames-water-pumped-sewage-into-thames

Water companies in England have apologised for repeated sewage spills and pledged to invest £10bn this decade in an attempt to quell public anger over pollution in seas and rivers. fb-messenger://share?link=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.theguardian.com%2Fenvironment%2F2023%2Fmay%2F18%2Fuk-water-companies-offer-apology-and-10bn-investment-for-sewage-spills%3FCMP%3Dshare_btn_me&app_id=180444840287

Since 2019, Thames Water, in partnership with the Mayor of London, has installed 100 fountains across London. In the UK, 16 million plastic water bottles end up in landfills, rivers and oceans every single day so as part of our drive to create a better future for London- and our planet. This campaign is the biggest single-use plastic reduction initiative of any city across the UK. As Thames Water points out: producing and transporting one litre of bottled water creates 500 times more CO2 than tap water. So it's time to leave the plastic bottle behind. It's a great initiative that should exist in all major cities (ping @stockholmsstad!) especially when they are facing an increasing number of heatwaves. The human right to water and sanitation has been recognised as a human right by the UN since 2010, time to show it! https://www.thameswater.co.uk/

Oh I love this, I want this to be a thing everywhere so that I don't have to lug around big water bottles if I go our for a full day.
And together we've planted over 150,000 trees. One tree is planted for every climate review written to an organization that is Open for Climate Dialogue™.
How does this work?

The reported discovery of E. coli in the water definitely raises concerns about the effectiveness of Thames Water's monitoring and management practices. Such oversight could lead to serious health risks and shows the need for stricter oversight and proactive measures to safeguard public health and the environment. We cannot risk our people's lives while responsible organisations just sit back
