if you're working on climate advocacy, you might find this framework of delay narratives helpful in developing counter strategies. A group of climate researchers convincingly argue that the powerful fossil fuel existinctionists and their axis of political and corporate enablers have moved on from climate denial to climate delay, in order to justify inaction or inadequate efforts and sacrifice future generations for short-term profiteering. https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/global-sustainability/article/discourses-of-climate-delay/7B11B722E3E3454BB6212378E32985A7

In case you missed this influential article by Science Fiction novelist Kim Stanley Robinson from just over a year ago, it's well worth a read. He digs into the complexities of transitioning from a global economic system deeply saturated with fossil fuels, the risks and ramifications for nation states, and arrives at some ideologically unsettling yet stubbornly convincing proposals. https://www.noemamag.com/paying-ourselves-to-decarbonize/

As we transition to a green economy, we must compensate petro-states for their lost income. Otherwise, the world economy will collapse like a house of cards.

"There are no non-radical futures." Love this quote from Kevin Anderson. Maintaining the status quo is radical - and scientifically extinctionist extremism. What does it now mean to be "moderate"? Can the news media adjust in time to report in the interests of life on earth? So many aspects of our popular societies require a paradigm shifts, and bad actors are already thriving in the chaos. What a momentous juncture of opportunity we're facing as a species.

Trudeau took office seven years ago by promising bold climate action, but no amount of greenwashing can hide his record of fossil fuel failure. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2022-10-20/justin-trudeau-defends-canada-s-minuscule-climate-progress

This is super interesting, what type of discourse have you encountered the most working with advocacy? I feel surrendering and redirecting responsibility are pretty hard to get around

This model does a great job at highlighting the most motivating forms of narrative as well: Non-dystopian visions of the future, self-efficacy through personal stories of climate action, highlighting the importance of everyone doing their part, and showing that radical solution can make a better world.
