I'm an urban ecologist focused on enhancing people's daily connections with nearby nature. My work emphasizes how design, education, and government can foster this relationship. As the founder of NYC Wildflower Week, I lead an organization that creates cultural and educational programs to engage urbanites with the floristic wonders of New York City.
I also contribute to the New York Times and WNYC Public Radio. In 2013, I helped develop a bill that became the first "biodiversity" law, supporting native plants in public landscapes. Currently, I'm co-leading the NYC Biodiversity Task Force, with our report scheduled for release in May 2025.
My latest project, Biodiversity Leaders for Harris, aims to establish a nationwide coalition of conservation leaders and nature advocates, focusing on integrating biodiversity conservation into national initiatives and future administration efforts.
